Why can't punk bands get big without everyone calling them sellouts? it is possible to stay true to yourself and still grow, so why do people hate them for becoming successful?

Man whatever, people are who they are. If I blew I would still rock fatigue and I would say fuck mtv e'ey chance i got. Blink and Sum didn't sellout cause they always had higlites and they could never rock a skate for shit.

 
there will always be people that say punk bands are selling out when they become big. you know why. because in some cases the mainstram changes and all of a sudden it's cool to like them. People are too protective over what music they're listening too. if its good listen if you don't like it then turn it off. what if someone sells out and becomes a really good punk band because their folk carrer isn't working out. are you gonna stop listening because they're sellouts? if so then you'd be doing exactly what pop culture is, judging them by their image.

It is definatly possible to get big and not sell out. Selling out isn't the process of gaining fans. Selling out is changing your musical style from one way, to another, because one is more favored by the masses.

And example of a band that hasn't sold out, yet is still widely known... Rancid. When 'And Out Come the Wolves' came out, some people accused them of selling out, so what did they do? They produced an even more intense album that silenced all the bitches. Yet theya re still widely listened to as well as widely known by the general public.
