Forget building your own box, unless you're a carpenter.
You'd have to make it to the perfect area volume, structure has to be solid, has to be made from the right materials, might need to be vented, hard to make it look good, harder to get good sound, etc.
Go to your local car audio shop, tell them the subs you have, they'll order you the box that's made for them. Easy as that.
With my last car, I cheaped out and made my own box...it was a 700$ sub and sounded like shit, but I couldn't figure out why.
In my current car, I have two Alpine's type r's, which are relatively inexpensive, and I can't even imagine turning them all the way up. Why? The box was 300$, made to the subs specifications, and worth every penny.

JL audio s the way to go. i have got the 10 inch soundwedge. and it thumps, people laugh at the fact its a 10 inch, relatively small when people are running dual 12's but the compliments i get on it are awesome, and much more then my buddies who got tow 10's or 12's. the bass is LOUD and it hits so clear and crisp, no delay at all. just becareful running duals cuz sometimes the sound can get two bubbky and loud where u cant even hear the music and ur car will strt to raddle.

It's really hard to screw up a box with plans. www.caraudio.com/forum and look at their plans. It will sound alot better than a premade.

i have a $450 sub and an unvented box, i got it off ebay. it was like $10 and $30 shipping, so $40 is a good deal. it looks and sounds great. very well made box

If you vent the box, the sound will be more clear and still loud enough (since it's two 12's) If you seal a box, it will be loud in the car, but not quite as clear, but it will also be loud as fuck outside the car if someone were to hear your stereo from the outside.
A vented box is pushing air around that is inside the car.
A sealed box pushes air in and out of the car and sorta uses your interior space as a vented box.
I once had two twelves in a sealed box and the sound quality varried when opening or closing the windows. It sounded better with the windows down, since the air movement is less restricted.
If you're good at carpentry, then build it yourself and carpet it ( if you want) yourself. It's really not that hard at all.(Unless you have limited space) If you wanna pay a little more, then just go buy one and save time
