Subs and Amp on craigslist - good deal?

i'm with you on this one man. two 12s are overkill sometimes. i mean unless you have a biiiig SUV or just want to crack pavement
 
you can always just turn it down, right?
i dont know anything which is why i ask questions like that
 
actually, looking back on what i said.. its definitely overkill. i thought a ranger was a suv of some type.

if you get two 12's with 1000 watts, you will probably loose your hearing/ sell those motherfuckers within a few days

go to best buy and get one shallow mount 10" and a shallow mount box. get an amp that fits the sub too. i literally have a shallow mount 10" sub in my honda accord, and it gives me more than enough bass for me to happy with.

oh yeah of course buddy. Sorry I wasn't too helpful there. I would say if you have a Ford Ranger extended cab you'd be well set with just one 12". A friend of mine has a jeep grand cherokee with a Rockford-Fosgate 12" sub and the matching amp for it and that really does a good job in the bass department.
I would say look into which is cheaper:-one 12" sub and an amp for it of equal or greater quality-or the deal you're looking at.

then of course compare and contrast qualities. but IMO you would be very safe with just one sub. 2 will be dope as shit but it will def bump super hard. So if you do get 2, i would recommend having it professionally installed. Actually, have it professionally done, it is worth it. You don't want any wire fires in your car...haha my best friend did it himself and that happened. Anyway, just put in some good research time, get the most for you money ya know?
 
I have dual 12" MTX Terminators with a Rockford Fosgate 4 channel in a 1984 Bronco and I love it. I say go.
 
You know how the bronco has that back cab portion you can take off? Well, my Bronco is a 1984 and the back has never been taken off. The fucker rattles like there is no tomorrow but I have gotten compliments on my set up. And I took it to a car show (my Bronco ain't half bad looking) and got like third place in interior add-ons. I was pumped. It was just a little local car show thing but still.
 
You are SEVERELY underpowering 2 12" MTX subs with only a 4 channel. You need at least a 1 ohm class D block amp to power those. That is why it hasn't blown out your ears yet.
 
Do this:

1) Don't buy off craigslist, you don't know how hard those have been treated or how many hours they have been played.

2) You drive a cabbed truck, get a 10" sub with a powerful amp, I suggest Kicker, Alpine, MTX, maybe Rockford, Polk or JBL.

3) Get a 1 channel amp, have the amp able to push about 50 more amps RMS than the sub is rated for.

4) Buy your stuff off of onlinecarstereo.com , great service and great products for a good price.

5) Buy quality audio equipment. So many people say "Oh I'm pushing 1000 watts on my sub" turns out it is a no-name brand that is powered by a not very good amp. A good amp and sub combo pushing 400 watts RMS will sound worlds better than no name or cheap brands.

My problem this last year was I used to have these old ghetto amps that came with my bronco powering my speakers and subs and then one of them died so I had to replace them both with something that could run my Kenwood 6.5 door speakers AND the subs. And I was strapped for cash and just got something that could at least run everything. Any suggestions?
 
If you have a 4 channel amp that is powering 2 12" subs AND 6.5" components...wow is all I can say.

Do this:

1) Use your 4 channel amp to power your 6.5" component speakers. If you have 4, one channel per speaker. If you have 2 speakers, bridge 2 channels and run 2 channels. Adjust gains as necessary.

2) Buy a new 1 or 2 ohm Class D amp. This will be excellent for subs, what it is designed for.

3) Wire subs to lowest impedance (ohm value) and adjust gains. Try to push around 50 watts more from your amp than the subs can take. This will make up for power lost in wiring and give you some room to adjust things. If you can't afford an amp to power those, get at least a powerful class D amp.

4) ???

5) Profit

What is the best option to buy these though. Off someplace on the internet, or go to a place like BestBuy or another car audio place. Because, to be honest, I have no idea how to hook all this shit up myself.
 
id go with the first, 1 sub really isnt enough, my sisters BF has 2 12s and is getting 2 more
 
Don't EVER buy retail in person if you can help it. Wiring perhaps but that is about it. www.onlinecarstereo.com is where I get all of my stuff from, they are great. There are a few other places like that as well just can't think of them at. Stay away from crutchfield.com. You can look on crutchfield to see if stuff will fit but don't buy from them. They mark up as much as best buy does.
 
Doesn't look too bad, ask for the model numbers of the Sub and Amp if you can, as well as their RMS ratings. Wattage means nothing without the RMS wattage.
 
you gotta be careful with this kinda stuff

a lot of the time the people that sell their subs have blown them to shit and they end up sounding like a loose vagina. but that's just from a pessimistic point of view. it's a pretty sikk deal and even if they don't work out you could probably sell them for a lot more.

Best Buy definitely doesn't have the best quality stuff, but they'd probably do well for you considering this is your first pair of subs. Ebay is a good option too, just make sure you do your research and buy from a legit seller. I've had a ton of different sub combinations, 2 10in kenwoods, 2 10in infiniti kappa perfects, then just 1 kappa perfect. I had a number of different amp setups, but ended up with just a JL Audio 250/1 amp with the 1 kappa perfect and i liked it the best out of all my different setups. I had other amps running my component speakers too, but for subs, a good quality 10 inch sub with a good quality amp is generally all you need.
 
hahaha are you guys kidding me?

My friend with a 99 toyota camry has FOUR subs in his trunk. The thing fucking cracks the road. DOn't be a pussy.. get 2.
