SUBARU VS. AUDI

you are so damn right

are u guys serious?? have any of u ever been in the new tt or rs4, a8 or whatever...?!!!!

stop being stupid as fuck !

audi is way way way... better

ah sorry i had no clue what DCCD was. such a badass idea that im sure so many STI owners dont even know about and will never touch, which is a shame.

Its hard to compare $60,000+ luxury cars to $30,000 subarus. Don't be stupid. I'd say 99% of people given the chance would take an S4 for equal money as an STi, even with paying more to insure it and run it. Didn't this thread start to discuss the AWD system alone?

my brother has a subaru station wagon and it is the most amazing thing ever. we can drive in ALL weather in it, and we've never had problems with it.

i have a '99 subaru forester for 6 months and ive had so many problems with it - replaced engine, rebuilt tranny, many leaks, back left speaker went out, doesnt start every once in a while (didnt leave lights on). the handling is terrible also

maybe i just got bad luck with my first car

if compairing AWD systems alone, price shouldent play a factor should it? The extra cost of an S4 dosent come from the AWD system, it comes from the v8 under the hood, and the luxuries inside the car.

Are you a troll or just a retard? But yeah man the japanese really make some shitty cars. Fucking Japs couldn't engineer their way out of a paper bag*.

Audi and Subaru can't really be compared... but when it comes to AWD systems, Subaru has the majority of AWD Audis beat. I am not going to explain why... if you retards want to know then you'll have to find out for yourselves. I know you won't listen to me, anyway, and most of you know nothing about how different kinds of AWD work.

And... to the OP, since when do subarus have locking diffs? Mine sure doesn't... though I wish it did. I have overloaded the torque distribution maximum on the center diff a couple of times and having diff lock would have been awesome.

*this is sarcasm.

Bro the Japs are prolly at least a year or two ahead of us in technology and every country has their own perks like Japans Skylines and 240's and 350Z's dominate drift and WRC's and Europes engineering dominates Grand Prix's and and other endurance races.

I'm not sure if anybody has said this yet but if it wasn't for Audi, there would be no AWD. Back in the 80's audi developed it and is still a leader in the market today. The reason I prefere Audi's over Subies is simply because Audi has a purely mechanical AWD vs Subie's electronic version, (ie. it breaks less)

hey do u see people drifting in the snow and mud on websites like Streetfire.net in Audi's alot or Suby's....Suby's would be the answer cause most people that drive Audi's are not so keen to go out and have fun and utilize their "AWD" system only the pro's really do that for Audi.

well at racing school my instructor was talking about awd, and audi and subaru came up, he said the main difference is that audi awd is more mechanical, while subaru awd is more electronic and high tech, so subarus is kinda like a traction control system and audi's is just pure plain old awd. and in performance neither really are "better" it depends on the driver, subaru's are much easier to drive and control, but it is limiting in what the driver can do, while audi's are harder to control because it depends alot more on the driver to control it where with subaru the car itself does more, but for that reason a good driver can do more with an audi than a subaru because they have more total control over the car.

here's a big advantage that subaru has over audi. if something needs to be fixed, it won't cost you a quarter of what you paid for the car plus overseas shipping. audi's need to have a warranty, otherwise be prepared to pay a shitload in repairs.

Yes, it's been pointed out numerous times and is wrong on all accounts. Saying AWD wouldn't exist without Audi is like saying the automotive industry would have never existed without Henry Ford. Furthermore, just because Audi did it first doesn't mean they're the best at it. Different cars will cater to different people, and I will admit that I like the way a Subaru drives more than an Audi.

o man i even said it was sarcasm in my post... i love japanese cars.

To

the guy who said audi has purely mechanical AWD and subaru has

part-time electronic... that's really not true in the case of the 5MT subarus, which are the only ones worth driving with the exception of the STi.

My RS is transmission -> viscous-coupling center diff -> open front and rear diffs. I believe this is shared by all other manual transmission subarus except the WRX (which has a limited-slip differential in the rear and a different center diff torque split but is otherwise identical) and the STi (which has the DCCD center diff)

Alright but technically Karl Benz created the first automobile and Henry Ford created the first assembly line for cars and brought them to the people. In the end it comes down to preference and I like Audi's more than Subaru's, don't get me wrong I like Subaru's also, their engines are bullet proof, the 07 Sti is sexy, they have AWD, and they have the rally wins to back up the claims. I'm just biased because I own an Audi.

I will also concede that Subaru’s are more performance oriented that Audi’s seeing as almost every Audi engine is placed in front of the front axle, and the Subie's are placed behind the axle. Subaru's are also more “bang for your buck”. You can get the Sti for like 35K while an S4 will run you at least 50K.

So in conclusion most AWD's are good, it is just the preference of the driver that should determine what you want to get

i dont know where this kid gets his stuff... i can change the torque front and aft and my turbo boost on the fly.. she might be old for a tybe 44 but its a fuckin rocket ship.... subaru killer.....
