Subaru Outback, Volkswagon Passat, or Volvo Cross Country

pretty sure the awd system in my 98 legacy gt wagon, or any other 90's 5 speed from subaru for that matter, is a 50/50 full time split, like it says in my owners manual.

its 50/50 when you are driving on dry pavement making no turns.

when you turn and when wheels lose traction is when that will vary.

example: if you make a left hand turn in a audi or subaru the rear left wheel will spin slower and the front right wheel will spin faster. same for a right turn but vice versa.

i have an upgraded transmission and torsen in my audi which allows it to drive 30/70 rear on dry pavement.

example: coming into a corner practically RWD , AWD in corner, car will actually come out of corner in mostly FWD.

Well if you knew anything about accounting then you would know that if a company owns shares in a company they have a claim on the assets, the fact they are non voting shares has no influence on that. They have a 20% share in the owners equity of the company which is worked out as the residual amount when the liabilities of the company are subtracted from the assets in other words

OE = A - L i.e. if a company owns shares in another company they have a claim on the assets.

Pay up.

we bought the Passat. If I can, I'll get pics. I just took it around seattle yesterday, it handles very nicely so far, and the braking/accelerating is perfect for me thus far. I have yet to take it on a long drive though.

why would a NA conversion make it faster? It wouldnt inless you put alot of money into the engine.

i dunno if he is looking for an impreza outback or legacy outback, but thats an impreza outback which is a bit shorter and looks more like a rally car vs the legacy outback which is longer and more like a volvo wagon

forrester xt, soooo baller and just as fast as a wrx. imo for a ski/outdoorsy young persons car this is one of the best cars you can buy, with not much money at all you can be making around 400whp, get some nice coilovers and you have a car that destroys modded sti's in acceleration and handling, and its a wagon/suv looking thing.

im looking at getting a new car and i cant decide between this, a legacy gt wagon, (both modded) or an evo 8. im leaning towards the evo for obvious reasons.

i just bought an '01 outback like 2 days ago. you will not be disappointed. just make sure you get a stick cause the autos are painfully slow. at least the ones i test drove. lot more control too.
volvos are kinda for city folk. subies are legit.

I would go with the Subaru, they will literally run till they fall apart and they're just all around great cars. They're great in snow, too.

autos not too bad, if you ahve the auto shift thingy, thats kinda fun...
but post up soem pics this weekend and congrats on the purchase

dude, you're a judgmental ass. look at all the people in this thread who drive passats. and it's a passat wagon which will handle well in the mountains. It's not like I have the money to blow on a crap car like a ford (yes I know ford owns volvo now but there's a difference) or a car that isn't efficient at all for what I would use it for, like...well like any sedan, truck, or SUV.

I am stating that the people that drive passats in this thread are not heterosexual too. It is just a fact that the majority of men who drive jettas and passats like penis. I like how you say you don't have money to blow, but you buy an overpriced vw. Ford sucks too, I wouldn't buy that shit.

i was thinking of that, but after driving a forrester xt, legacy gt, wrx (non wagon), sti, and evo. i found that the forrester, legacy and wrx were all pretty much the same performance wise, the wrx was a little more nimble, but suprisingly not much better than the forester, and the legacy was about equal, i actually think the legacy chassis and overall setup felt the best performance wise. and with the sti, for how much hype it gets its really not that great, the evo is much much better in every way hands down. i think with any of the other subaru's and some mod's you could easily get better handling and much better straight line speed for not much money.
so for me its either get the most fun awd car possible (evo) or get something thats a super sleeper, aka the legacy gt wagon or xt with lots of mods.

We got it for a really really REALLY good price. Why the fuck would I buy a new car?

Months of research went into this decision, and if it's a so called "fag" car then so be it, I guarantee it will blow so many other cars out of the water in terms of performance.

I've seen you post around and it seems like you truly are an opinionated, ignorant, and closeminded so maybe you can take your criticism and the so-called fact that homos drive passats out of this thread.

i dont think id want 400hp, i was just saying you can get that much pretty easy, or find one with the mods already done, id want like 320-340whp, that way you dont get shitty turbo lag and its still reliable.

Foresters are so shitty, I used to like them but then I test drove a forester sti and it was totally junk. Everything about it sucked, it handled poorly, the interior was really cheap. There's no way I would even trade my old 02 wrx for one.

Which forester are you talking about? The XT or the STi? Cause the XT comes stock at 224 hp, no way you could get it up to 400 hp without alot of money. It does have an STi engine in it so you would save some money on not having to upgrade your injectors or your pumps or anything, you would still need to get a more robust intercooler, as well as a better turbo. The XT had the TD04 turbo on it which is the same as the WRX. You aren't going to be able to do much at all to reduct the turbo lag without replacing the whole thing and getting a boost controller. That's big money right there for a new turbo. You might be able to get it up to around 300 for only a couple hundred, but that's pushing it.

As for the STi forester, it's stock at 320 hp. You might be able to get it up to 400 hp, but then again, it would still cost a lot of money. It has the same engine exactly as the STi pretty much, and upgrading any of those parts is some serious cash.

ive got a friend with a legacy gt which has the same engine and he has put like 2 grand into it and he has around 350whp.

passats are pretty sweet, just cause its not tool bag mustang with flames doesnt mean its a gay persons car, some people like having a nice car that can actually perform well. the people ive seen driving passats are usually very normal people, i dont think ive ever seen a gay person in one.

passats are sick

Ya 2 grand is a pretty hefty amount of cash for most people on top of purchasing a car. I would be really hard pressed to get up to 350 hp on my WRX with 2 grand and replace the turbo to get to stage 2.5.

What did you pay for it? how many k's has it done?

I do have to agree that VWs are overpriced though you definietly pay for the badge

that dosent make any sense...

an A4 is a passat with more options and 4 circles instead of a vw logo.

VW has nothing to do with ford...

audi and VW are one in the same...

ill stop arguing now, as i have never realized what a ford modeo is, most likely because i dont live in australia. but in the states now vw is built off the same chassis/design as a ford
