Subaru Outback, Volkswagon Passat, or Volvo Cross Country

No... I have no reason to do an NA conversion. I love having a turbo. I said it cause he said subi's are slow as shit, and my WRX is pretty fucking fast. With a couple hundred in engine mods and some engine management its pretty damn quick.
 
well this thread is about the subaru outback, which if I'm not mistaken is naturally aspirated. Everyone knows wrx's are fast.
 
my dad has an audi allroad so there's no point in buying an a4. We were looking at an a6 which had a great price but the problem is audis are incredibly expensive to maintain, especially a used one. The gas mileage isn't that great and I'm not really looking for "fast" I just need a 4wd wagon that's relatively small and very safe to drive.
 
being fast isnt included in my reason to own an audi. you own an audi because the heated cow hide and wood, and atmosphere that surrounds you and quattro. you should know your dad having an allroad what im talking about. other cars arent onthe same level. the more a car costs new, the more it costs to maintain. audi is for someone who doesnt worry about money. its not a kia.

if you are worried about a repair bill dont get the vdub either because the vdub and the a6 are built off of the same frame and many components 98-up

looks like you are stuck with the cliche car of the outdoors lifestyle, because the XC costs more to repair than an audi.
 
Also FYI i have an a6 2.7 and i average 23 mpg. going up and down little cottonwood canyon (4,000 vert in 11 miles) anytime i drive it. thing rolls 27 mpg on the interstate. it only gets poor mileage in the city. the 2.8s avg is in the 30 range.
 
this is one of the big reasons I love my passat. I have a mkIV, the body styling is really nice, and the inside is even nicer. I have leather seats, wood trim, sun roof, basically all options, and it was for a great price. It was way nicer than the other cars I was looking at for the same price, and probably handles better and is just as fast. I get 30 mpg highway, 25 everyday on my way to work in stop and go traffic with a v6. It's a very fun car to drive, and is amazing in the snow. I don't think the outback even comes close to the passat in terms of styling or performance (maybe a tiny bit better in snow), can't really say anything about the volvo tho. I think subarus are over rated on ns because of the higher end cars (wrx)

My subaru has full leather interior. It still looks new after 10 years. My dads magnum is 3 years old and the leather seats in it are destroyed.
 
yeah I'm buying a used car...over 50,000 miles on it and definitely not any less than 3 years old. It's kind of hard to find good deals on limited editions.
 
did you buy it from a dealership or privately? We want to buy from a dealership. It's not going to be all my car either so it's not all my choice, I'm just looking for some reviews on each car.
 
my dads outback, NOT turbo wagon begs to differ, rad the posts before yours, i stated this ealier. and wrxs/stis are fats, because of th turbo
 
I'm not getting a WRX and I'm pretty sure I'm not getting the outback. Just a matter of long-term value for the prices/miles on the car we're getting.
 
I, personally would... ask this question an a car forum site. Don't take this wrong way ns, even though i'm sure you will, but after keeping an eye one certain trends, you kind of have a certain bias towards the big sube. But in the end, gather up the all the info you want, but take each for a drive, look at the mileage and choose the one you like the most. endo story.
 
werd, but if you want a quick car thats gonna hande awsome check the wrx wagon/ saab 9-2x
but the passsat has my vote, unless you opt for a wrx wagon.
 
If I had the option then I'd go for it man it sounds like a sick car. Unfortunately money's tight and we have to find an amazing deal. Luckily we've found 3 amazing deals, on the cars I listed. All are 4wd, and all are wagons. So yeah. We're deciding in the next 2 days or so.
 
I'll take your bet. We went to the dealerships and looked at each and every one of them. I know the Volvo XC70 is a four wheel drive for a fact, along with the passat wagon and the subaru outback. That was one of the criteria for determining a car to even consider. We narrowed down our list a lot before coming to these 3 cars.

The videos feature the exact cars you're looking at buying. You obviously come from a family of suckers and I'm sure you'll get taken for a ride by whatever dealership you decide to buy from. Have fun getting stuck in your "4wd" fagwagon.
 
I'm sorry that I don't know exact terminology, but you don't have to be a dick about it. I have no speakers therefore I can't hear the videos that you have posted. I'll try to see if I can snag some headphones tomorrow and check them out, I'm actually interested in what they have to say, I want to know all I can about the car I'm dropping 3/4 my life savings on.

I believe you and how they're AWD and not 4WD. This car is my first one and we're not going to be buying the nicest AWD cars out there, they're going to be used with decent fuel economy, and great value. We've researched for a long time on this and we actually have 3 very specific cars which we've seen, been inside, but only 2 of them we've test driven (subaru and VW). So I'm just trying to get as much info on the experiences of the drivers before we buy anything.
 
ehhh, kinda, but not so much. GM owns 20% of FHIStock and is a non voting apparently so they have no claim on any assets nor do they have any control over the production of the WRX.

FHI and GM have a strategic alliance formed in 1999 to create mutually advantageous relations.

FHI sells Saabs for GM in japan whereas GM sells the forester and impreza in Indionesia, India and Asia. In india it is marketed as the chevrolet forester but it is actually produced by FHI and is for all purposes a Subaru but for marketing reasons is a Chevrolet im assuming.

GM provided Subaru with the onstar system in the outback in the US.

Subaru dealers in Italy and Australia have introduced GMAC consumer financing programs to improve finance services for Subaru buyers.

and the key point I will mention is that FHI agreed with Saab (Sweden) of GM group to jointly develop Saab 9-2 and market it in North America in the summer of 2004 by utilizing Subaru platform.

Somewhat in return for that by utilizing GM’s catalytic converter technology in its Subaru vehicles, an overall reduction in Subaru production cost

was made possible.

So as you can see this has nothing to do with ownership but a strategic alliance. Many car companies do it and I assume it was done with isuzu, honda and FHI in the past. Isuzu is owned by GM as well so that could have played a part.

I want to add that Subaru IS producing the Saab 9-2 X in its Gunma Manufacturing Division so yes you are correct. Subaru actually does make the Saab 9-2X
