Subaru Outback, Volkswagon Passat, or Volvo Cross Country

hmmm my dadas outback wag. is sooooo slow, is the passat a v6? or a turbo4? if the vovo is decentley quick, id probally go with that, for the awd and its a wagon right? so itd have more room.

Deffinitly an outback. I have a 98 outback limited and I love it. My grandpa has volvo's and I've never been in a passat but I'm uncomfortable in the volvo, it costs alot to get fixed as there aren't alot of mechanics that work on volvos, its not great in snow and its not fun to drive.

Practicality vs fun the subaru easily beats them. I can take it offroading, fit 5 people and ski gear in it and make it to the mountain in 2ft of snow and it's still fun to drive.

Outback, put ski racks on it, put dope ski stickers on the back

i might get a 95 or 98 audi a6 wagon

they look PIMP too

I have a passat with a v6 and it's sweet. runs great, handles really well, and with a good set of snow tires it'll get you anywhere, its a really reliable car. The back seats fold down and it fits skis no problem, I love mine

My dad and I are pretty intrigued about outbacks. Thinking about getting one for just getting around town and to the mountain, then in a couple years I can just buy it off him and it'll all be mine. They look dope and I've only heard good things about them.

get an outback. i have a 96 and it is extremely reliable, and has had little to no problems. and it still completely dominates in the snow.

whatever you do, dong get the XC70

its a good CAR but its AWD capabilities are limited a lot in comparison to the Outback or Passat/A4.

Personally, i'd go with the outback.

Its my birthday today so i decided to make everyones day a bit more enjoyable, everyone loves pictures right?

matt go with the outback, definitely better than the passat for snow, and xc is a soccer mom car.

here is what i look at when considering a new car: reliability, practicality/versatility, and funness. The subaru fits all of these, except fun; it's a slow car, but fits all my gear and is very very good on gas. Now if subaru made all their cars with faster, bigger engines, then the outback would be even higher on my list.

But anyways, subaru is still #1 so go for it.

i dunno man i havnt driven an outback and i love suby's i have a 2000 impreza rs but my dad has a passat that is very classy. it looks super legit like your going to pick up a client but it has triptonic shifting options if you got an automatic so you could drive a clutchless manual which is dope. either way you'll be set

How can you say it's not fun? You have to go fast for it to be fun? My mom has a beamer and I love cruising around in it but I only take it when she borrows my car to pick up anything larger than a toaster. If you know how to take a corner you'll see the subaru is great. I mean their major designs are taken from rally cars and subaru has always been at the top.

i mean i love my subie, and it is sorta fun to drive (compared to my truck), but if it had a bit more boost and power, i would be in heaven. of couse it could also be that my scooby doo is an auto. it certainly would be more fun if it were a manual...

outback... i drive my moms volvo wagon and the blind spots are killer. seriously. almost ran into a beamer a week ago because of the blind spot over the left shoulder and i had been looking over my shoulder for more than just a quick glance. volvo are also increibly expensive and seem to be in the shop wayyy too often. and ive heard vw's are also picky on parts and you have to get vw everything if you need a part replaced which is also expensive

volvos are great, but, being a mom car, its always auto. so dont get it.
get a outback 5spd because the vw cars always have fucked electronics after a hundred thousand or so miles.

well my self i am a V Dub guy but i actually may be looking into getting an outback sport in the near future, the two brands are similar in that they both have die hard loving owners and have always marketed to the outdoor crowd, which is part of the reason i am attracted to both cars. I love VW because everyone that i have owed or driven has seemed to wrap around me and everything was in the right spot, and I drove the car the car did not drive me which is getting harder to find these days, i would either go with the passat or the subi, the later of the two being a bit cheaper to repair... good luck

fucked up electronics? do you have a clue what you're talking about. Dubs are the shit but get a mkiv cause mkv's are ugly as shit. If you do get a dub make sure you get a manual because the automatic transmissions in dubs sucks.

ya two of my friends have had vws and the electronics (the dashboard lcd, for example) got fucked up and wouldnt work correctly. the car also kept showing it was in need of repairs when it wasnt or it didnt show when it needed one. this is a 2002 passat and a 2001 jetta.

but i could be wrong though. im basically just repeating what the dealer told us was wrong with the car, and they could be full of shit so w.e.

but one thing i really like about a vw over a subaru is the throw on the gearshift. its much shorter in the passat, makes the shifting almost effortless.

get the outback for sure, i just got a 97 and love it. its fun to drive, sorta slow but i can fix that haha, and tons of room my god. the rear end is an abyss, i fit a whole drum kit, 20x20 kick snare, 2 big floor toms, 2 rack toms,hi hat crash, ride, and another crash, all on their stands,a throne , 2 amp heads and the carpet for the kit and still had room in the back. it also goes up my hellacious drive way smoother than my moms land cruiser. p.s. the STi engines drop right in besides the ecu and dash cluster hehe, ultimate sleeper?

I have a volvo, its pretty fast but it doesnt handle in snow in dirt as well as the suburu. Dont know about the VW

You're very opinionated and usually have good arguments but the lack of one here makes it seem like you can't think of a reason why.

My WRX begs to differ...

But ya, I'd go with the Subaru. I love mine, it's an amazing car and everyone I know is in love with theirs.

PASSAT! theyre sick in the snow.. all you need is a ski rack

but outbacks are legendry in the world of snow as well

So far we haven't been able to check out volvos that much but we've found a sick deal on a couple Passats, great mileage and such. The subarus...we've found the same deal, but the Passats seem like they'd be a bit more modern and have a lot more clean inside and leather seats. Leather usually lasts longer than cloth...

I'm thinking the Volvo XC70 could be an awesome ride too, I'm going to the dealership on saturday to check out a couple and test drive, my dad knows volvos really well so we're definitely now leaning toward the Passat or the XC70

get an outback or a wrx if you want the same car as everyone else in the parking lot.

since you are looking at a passat what about an audi avant? a6 or a4.... they are going for cheap for what you get.

subaru's awd is based on a computer system that has to react to the driving surface, compute, then adjust. audi sold it to them in the 80s.

audi's quattro as we all know is banned from professional racing. the rear differential (torsen) reacts instantly with out a computer to disperse torque amongst the wheels. its the most superior car system out there.
