Subaru Mods

That shit still pisses me off. I remember this cause his name was WTFBBQ which is a thing form nasioc.

oh kyles car, such a sad story. It was the cleanest suby i have ever seen, he put so much time and money into that thing it. he should have never sold it.

the HP bump from a short ram cold air is so minimal its barely worth it, and doing a long intake (down into the front of the wheel well) is much more complicated.for incvreased hp, cobb stage 1 is the easiest - basically 600 bucks for the accessport then you can download the new map with no other mods. further increases will req cat or turboback exhaust, larger intercooler, larger turbo.

as for running gear, whoever said do springs/shocks before wheels is 100% right - fxts look shite on big rims with stock ride height.

easiest (and cheapest) is swift springs (300 bucks from a guy in cali who imports them from japan, fxt specific) on stock struts (you may get slightly earlier failure of the rear struts, but i had no problems).

sti struts would be the next step, unless you have the coin to go straight to coilovers - but thats a big jump in cost. next would be end links and roll bars if your planning on hitting up autocross or anything.

again, a lot depends on how much u want to spend and how much expertese you have.

heres my 04 fxt, stage 1, swifts, sti struts

if someone wants to embed that, please do

and subaruforester.org is money for any info on any mod, plus nasioc and scoobymods

Yeah, might as well put aside money for a new FMIC rather than wasting it on an intake that won't do jack shit.

the best power mod path IMO is, > "stage 1" ecu tune(accessport or local enthusiast with a tactrix cable) > catless up pipe > ECU tune > TBE, ecu tune. (I would just do all of these things at once so you only tear into it one time and tune one time....)

Then bigger turbo and supporting mods (injectors, bigger IC, ect.)

fuck your brakes, fuck your struts. Once you get it fast save your money for repairs, and aesthetics.

im selling one for wrx/sti's, not sure if it would fit FXT's though. and to those that say it does nothing, its a lot better for your car than the stock intake

I was agreeing with you.. until you said "Fuck your brakes, Fuck your Struts"... Thats about the dumbtest advice you can give. Your brakes and suspension are pretty damn important.. and even more important when you add HP.

yea, maybe if you're going to the track they would matter but it's a street driven forester. The most important things will be highway pulls and accelerating from stopped. If you're pushing your car to the point where you're losing traction on dry road (braking and turing) you're probably going too fast.

I'll agree to disagree, since you're above post contradicted itself. With over 16 years in the automotive industry, you need to have a solid platform to build on. If you are doing highway pulls, etc.. you're going to want better braking and turning ability even more.. safety wise. An FXT already has more power to the wheels than anyone needs daily.. so, in reality.. get a good suspension set up and fun tires.

haha I contradicted myself? never. You're the one saying that OEM suspension isn't good enough when you're on the highway. is it important to slam on your brakes when gunning it from a light? jesus christ. and 16 years in the automotive industry??? does that count your parent's driving you home from the hospital?

Haha! well, when that guy that your trying to pass while doing highway pulls decides to cut you off, yes.. you'll want better brakes and suspension. Or when that kid decides to cross against the light as you gun it? yeah, again.. brakes and suspension. Jesus Christ.

And if I was counting the time that my parents drove me home from the hospital? yeah.. over 30 years "bro". Way to generalize the population of NS.

going too fast? hmm, "loosing traction" is the most fun you can have with a street car IMO. i kinda have the opposite view from you. id rather look at suspension and tires before anything power related. highway pulls and straight line shit bores the fuck out of me.

haha yes, look at suspension and tires to decrease your grip..... there's your contradiction grandpa

I wouldn't waste money on the intake. I don't know about foresters in particular, but most Subaru intakes are perfectly fine for the job. On a related note I've heard that paper filters are better because oiled cotton can end up coating the MAF sensor in a fine layer of oil causing readings to be off.

Btw, pretty serious about buying a Cobb Accessport. Any thoughts? Apparently it will add like 75hp? It also has a map for fuel economy?

75hp without supporting mods? probably not true. and yes, there is a map for 30'ish mpgs. i have no experience with it though.

I'm familiar with the AP. 75hp is a lot to ask for, just from a tune. I'm not saying you shouldnt do it. Its worth it and your "butt dyno" will notice the improvement. And there are alot of other advantages of with the AP (theft mode, scan tool, etc).

Anyone have any experience with the Stromung 3" Catback? And also what are people recommending for suspension? I am looking for doing offroad riding as well as street.

Header,intake,exhaust.coilovers.your best bet for cheap coilovers would be racelandus.com if they make any for the fozzie.put baller wheels on it last.drop it first.

why would you drop it before performance mods? seems out of order. But dont drop it if you want to do any offroading as a forester has very limited clearence as it sits stock, if anything get a jackson rally spacer lift to get some extra clearence.

my shit cray!

I apologize for my noob like behavior in this topic, but does anyone have experience with new springs to lower their fuzzy for the summer? I'm thinking about lowering it, but I want to be able to put my stock springs on for the winter. Do I only need to buy springs? (Which ones do you recommend?)

I guess what I am trying to say is, can I use 05 sti springs on my stock xt struts? Do I need any other accessories, or do I just need to buy the springs? It'll be like 200 bucks for new sti springs.

no. forester struts have a longer stroke. just get the entire spring/strut assembly from the sti and bolt it in, then align. swapping the entire assembly will make it alot easier to go back to stock also.

One other question.. where can I get smoked headlight/tail light covers? And they must be legal in massachusetts..

Update..Just bought RA UR black with white logo mud flaps.

Unfortunately, I will not be lowering my car because I do need the clearance..

What's next? Haha I'm looking for cheap, easy things to do with the car.
