what is it?

if you care to browse through random and various infos of people on this site as i do periodically you will see that under 'Best Tricks' COUNTLESS numbers of people put 'Anything with lots of style'...but what IS style? i mean it's not like i haven't your average newschool-esque skier dude answer before ('like really tweaked out man...'), but REALLY what is style. when these people who enjoy 'anything with style' fill in their info what are they thinking about in particular? or are they not thinking about anything at all and are just too embarrassed to let all the cool kids on the site know that they're partial to jean-lucs double cosacks...

i dunno, i think to much emphasis is put on all the junk- not to say its bad, btu skiing is just about having fun and today people seem to have lost that fact, trying to be rad, or represent or whatever, style is doing whatever you want however you want, it is completeley unique a different for each individual, if everyone looks the same it is bland, and not stylie. do what you want and how you wnat, do not care what other people think, do not follow

To be technical, the dictionary defines 'style' as:

A quality of imagination and individuality expressed in one's actions and tastes, i.e does things with style.

I think the main point to understand in this is ' imagination and invividuality'.

So, for me, if it's done with style, it is a trick done in a clean and fluid motion.

That is my individual idea of style.

 
wohw... um, yea... this has been talked about many, many times on ns - style can't be defined - it is all personal opinion... ...easiest way to explain style though (in the most general style of style) is by quoting George Foreman 'just set it, and forget it'

Style is how you tweak out simple tricks to your originality. Thats the most sense i made all day, and i work for money

Its not the amount of tweakage... some of the slower subtle things look sick...

I think we all agree on the Fact that the grab has to be held for a long time and smoothness is important too.

yeah. everyone has so much trouble defining style because they're not using the word right. Style for skiing is the personal touch that YOU put in your tricks. Not tweaking a grab, not being fluid, it's what YOU do.

Good style is up for debate and is just anything that looks good, but style is just the way you do a trick. like mike nick does his lui kangs a certain distinct way, when he does that he puts style in the trick, wether it's 'good' style or 'bad' style is person.

Style is everything about who you are. Everyone's style is different and thats the coolest part, there isn't a clear definition of style, everyone has a little.

Style is best defined with one word. You. Everyone has some style, it may not flow like pollard, but look at candide, his style is to tweek the shit outa things. Everyone has thier own style, you just have to look to see what it is.

Style is subjective whether it's Tanner doing a floaty gorilla grab 3 or Sick Rick doing a huge risky flip over a gap, or even an air to fakie in the pipe. Fuck it. It's all stylish and only a handfull of people can do this shit. 3Phils rock tha pipe!
