Style; turning into a big joke

pros are trend setters, they do new things and people think it looks good. there are tons of trend setters out there. look at blake nyman, if anyone was at the open this year, u would see what he was wearing is nothing like anyone else, and ppl see it and think its dope and do it, some people dont. its the same with pros like T and dumont, they liek there shit hella baggy, you guys think its gay, but other people think it looks good, same with jons steeez, flourescent and flashy, some people like that. whatever, man everyone ahs there own opinion, and ppl dont jsut do ti because the pros do it, they do ti cuz they like it, and they see it through pros

I make my own stuff and it is extra large and thats how i like it because i am a big ass dude I just make my shit big enough so i dont have to sag it. And no body can dog my style if im makin' my own shit cause it is unique.

But i hear you on the neon stuff. It is only funny if you are doing really lame shit a or if you are profesh and totally sponsed throwing down.

this "everyone caught up in style" debate always interests me cause I have heard it many times in every sport i do. it is so interesting, cause as soon as someone (in this case the thread starter) brings up the fact that everyone gets caught up in these fads, people immediately scream out "no i definitly don't partake in this endless quest to look cool and original." i feel that what bothers people so much is that being treated as unoriginal is like a stab in the heart. thus in turn, there are endless rants about how "i only wear this baggy shit cause i cant find anything else that fits" or "i love stompin a huge switch 9 in my columbia gear."

now since this thread has proven that trying to emulate the pros' style/clothes/gear or whatever is definitly not cool, individuals do their best to try and stay original by saying either how much they don't care about style or something else that makes them unique, and thus cool once again.

it is just interesting for me to see the dynamics of this arguement across so many different sports. and the only conclusion that i have come to thus far, is that there is no solution, people will continue to be attention whores, and as you all can see from this thread, no one is ever going to get over it.

I hope that some day we will be able to put away our fears and prejudices and just laugh at people

Tanner is one of the most layed back dudes i have ever met he was way chill and not cocky at all. Its just an image he projects cause he is so damn sick.

well, have you thought about that peoples "style" might be anoraks and puffys? maybe thats what they like? I dont think anyone buys something to look specifically like tanner, I think people buy what they think looks good. At least thats what I do.

9

man, just let everyone wear whatever they want. if some kid on here sees tanner wearing yellow pants with an oakley logo on one leg, and goes all crazy over it and think it looks awesome, let him buy those pants, and rock them in the park. if the kid fuckin sucks and is a major poser, laugh at him, its not that hard man. You can laugh at the kid as much as you want unless he's kicking your ass skiing.

and to the ass calling dumont cocky, close your mouth because you don't know him and he is really friendly and down to earth. Im tired of people calling pro skiers cocky on the internet without even have met them. the day you school dumont on skis, go ahead and call him cocky.

I leave it up to you

I hope you find a good excuse

go to Whitewater resort out of Nelson. u will see awesome skiers, without the fashion crap. Real sick skiers, no bullshit. It will make u re-think buying the "cool" thing coz tanner has it in his new video segment.

Though buying gear that looks good is a thing that gives me a bit of self confidence out on the hill, when i see skiers who are way better than me. But it also makes me think that the skiers who are better than me think i'm a poser coz i'm not as good as them. So, i don't know what to think now.

hell yeah blake nyman brown skin tight wranglers also watch out for jordan seldin you see him standng there and your like theres no way this dude can ski he can do all 4 cork 7s with any grab he wants and its all his own style the kid is sooo fun o watch i mean you see him and blake and you notice them way more because they dont look like everybody else on the hill!

personally i wear whatever i think looks good and is comforable to ski i try to not look at what the pros wear just the clothes and i ride what clothes i like thats what it should be about

if you like thug wear thug but dont do it because tanner hall and all the homies wear it

'skis are like girls , the more you have the better'

people are allowed to follow the trend if they want to...pros are setting the example for people to think you have to wear what they wear...its called marketing and for the companies they are definately getting a lot of money...its the new trend to look like the pro's

'if it doesnt look photoshopped, its not big enough'

Thank you, espically on the calling out pros and all that ridiclous stuff, almost everyone that says "tanner is a fagg, dumont is cocky" hasn't met them.

And yeah, just wear what you want, if the kid is good and wears it cool, great, same goes to anyone who wears it. If the kid runs his mouth about his skills, and then goes out totally decked out in XXXL Ninthward shit, and just straight airs his one park lap of the day, thats another story.

That also leads into a previous "poser" thread. I personally think if you talk more shit than you can actually ski, and then rock the gear, is worse than just wearing it and not running your mouth.

Stay Classy Newschoolers

Why are we so worried about what i wear? I will wear what i can get, which isnt a whole lot considering my budget. I am only interested in being comfortable, and having stuff that works well, and only after those requirements are met will I concentrate on how it looks. If it is freezing, i wear a pink neck gaitor because it is what i have and i dont want to freeze my face. What pros are rocking it or what brand or color it is are not important as to why I'm wearing it. I went with red gear for next year because it shows up much better on film, and a little bit because of influence of sammy carlson/jp auclair in their maroon/red orage suits in several trailors i have seen. I admit that i am influenced by the pros, what i am wearing is not important to my skiing. It is what i am doing that is most important, and skiing ability and having fun are way more important aspects of style in my book.

keep it up guys mabye we can bring all of the world to the anti moral depths of america and then the terrorists will be to busy fighting themselves over the new paris hilton sex tape that theyll forget about jihad and ther 100 virgins in heaven-lineski07

skiing is about 2 things:

1. having fun

2. having style

and whether you wana admit it or not, the clothes you wear effect that 2nd one a lot, which can effect the 1rst. If the same kid slides the same rail, with tight pants the first time, and XXL the second, which is gona look better? Obviously the 2XL, cause you wont be able to see the natural awkwardness of their knees, and everything will look a lot smoother. And when its a lot smoother you can feel more confident, and youll have more fun.

And whoever said 'you have to be from the hood or Mark Frank Montoya' to wear baggy stuff is a fucking idiot. Kids from the hood dont have the money to buy nice shit, and Mark Frank isnt any different than anyone else he just has a better idea of style in snowboarding.

Jacob W is right. In the credits of High five, all the skiers got to write stuff. In Dumont's it says something like, you don't know me, so don't judge me or something. You don't know the kid, so don't say shit.

Style to me is how you ski, the way you look when your on rails or in the air, or jsut skiing. what you wear isn't a part of style to me. what you wear is just that, what you wear.

i cant take him[liam downey] seriously cuz his name reminds me of that downy bear from back when i was a kid -d loc

I don't deny there are bad things in the US right now, hell, 51% of the country to be exact. But god damnit, our country being fat is NOT a problem. I do't give a shit how fat people are. hell, fat kids are harder to kidnap, that means our country is safer.

-Melvs

ya who cares for how people dress u dont have to be a hero to ski like i see these kids counting the kinks measuring table tops and shit WHO CARES!

Are you sure it wasn't something like, "'CAUSE THAT'S HOW WE DO IT IN BETHEL, MAINE, BITCH!"

... The best ski wear trend from last year was formal wear on the hill. Ties were steeze. I think the key is to change shit up before it gets completely played out.

though, to treat someone like that is a really lame move. you don't know them. unless they are cocky about their skiing abilities and are constantly self praising, you nor anyone else has the right to laugh at them. for all anyone knows, that kid could be super chill. he just decides to wear that stuff. so unless he is trying to act like someone he isnt, you don't have the right to make fun of someone who isn't as good at skiing or tricks as you... unless you are one of those self praising posers you laugh at... thats pretty low Jacob.

obviously you don't realize the jacob was refering to posers who don't try shit and just hang out in the park not learning anything.

ok, to quote myself:

"man, just let everyone wear whatever they want. if some kid on here sees tanner wearing yellow pants with an oakley logo on one leg, and goes all crazy over it and think it looks awesome, let him buy those pants, and rock them in the park. if the kid fuckin sucks and is a major POSER, laugh at him, its not that hard man. You can laugh at the kid as much as you want UNLESS he's kicking your ass skiing."

basically what I meant is that a poser (someone who is not very good at skiing but thinks he is and likes to brag about his skills), should be laughed at, and maybe told that he should calm down a little. I think its super cool if some kid comes up dressed in his regular ski clothes and tries a couple of new tricks, he doesnt have to be good, its about having fun.

wear what you want!

Anathema, I agree with you to a point. This Gangsta and 'black' shit is getting out of control. Like 6 years ago when I started skiing, I thought snowboarding was gay because everyboding and their brother was doing it. I wanted to be unique and get away from those gay gangster cocky ass kids. It's switched around now. Snowboarding kids are super chill, and they just sit there sessioning all day taping eaching congrads on everything. Skiers in mypark it seems just roll through making run after run being deuches to everyone arounf them. Their style is what's obviously popular now, gangster or fucking plain gay.

I just pull off a good pair of skis, and I wear the baggy shit too, just cause it's so comfy and with tight shit you cant strech to reach the harder grabs.

Basically we got to pull ourselves together before we all turn into deuches.

stop your fucking whining bitch , if you dont like someones clothes, slit your wrists about it.. dont e-cry about it to us.. its just a style of expression and skiing is about the fun, not about looking at the person next to you and hating them cause they have next years armadas.. now go have sex

Enom Headwear.. If you're gonna ride twins, cover your head

I agree with you. I am not against people defining a certain style and caring about what they wear. It just annoys me when people think they are rebeling against convention by wearing barf oakley camo or a one piece suit when in reality they are just being shameless trend whores.

oh and note to all guys: GIRLS DO NOT THINK UGLY CAMO AND HUGE CLOTHING AND STUDDED BELTS ETC ETC ETC ARE HOT. dress tastefully, it will help your "game"

its not self expression anymore if its the same thing that everybody else has or wants. spend money on skiing, not clothing. all of the sudden fashion has become part of the extreme sports world. look at all the bikers and skaters with their 70s rock tight ass girls pants and the rollerbladers with the stupid XXXXL sweatpants. its annoying just go get good at skiing or whatever else you do. i wouldnt care if like all of the sudden 10 ft long straight rails became a fad, because rails are part of actual skiing. it would be funny shit too, because people would be like "your mountain sucks 'couse it doesnt have a 10 footer". sorry. that was kinda off topic.

"i'll nosepress your box if you lipslide my rail"

self expression doesnt matter if everyone else has or wants it. it's what YOU want....hence, self. (Main Entry: self-ex·pres·sion

Pronunciation: -ik-'spre-sh&n

Function: noun

: the expression of one's own personality : assertion of one's individual traits)

style is self expression. God forbid someone actually likes that oakley puke one piece, and wears it because they like it, not because Jon or Kirsti wore it. I like the florencent 80s steeze, crocheted hats, baggy pants, and jerseys. I'll wear them as long as I like them.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

*High North Session 3*

already killin it

but everbody just wants it because the pros have it, even if the dont admit it. if the pros didnt wear neon yellow, and you did, it would look like a joke, but since the pros wear it its hot shit, not old school.

"i'll nosepress your box if you lipslide my rail"

i bet many of you still go into snowbaord/ski shops and try on all the sick outerwear wishing you owned some of it...hell I do

its dress up for olde rmen... haha and its fun so don't lie, at one time or another you dream about having the orage one piece, or one of those crazy camo outfits,

for one reason or another, you wear what you wear and thats it, so don't bash people for seeing something they think is super sick and goign to get it,

but i will admit, i don't like it when other people are dressing the eXACT same as others... individual style should also play a key role..

so... i like to figure out my own outerwear style, get some stuff that not many people have but looks sick together, and yes i do care what i wear...

but yeah, im done rambling

in conclusion, it is not bad to care about what you are wearing, in fact i suggest you do take some notice and look sick on the hill... its fun haha.

'Keep on rocking in the free world'

as you think that this is a new development in skiing, you are obviously not from park city, ut.

I ran into Marc Frank Montoya the other day at 7 Eleven... he is not ghetto at all. He rolls in a SICK gray Range with black 26's on it. He was dressed in t shirt, jeans, and a pair of skate shoes....

Now, in the words of Micah Black (i believe) "In it's never ending quest to be as cool as snowboarding, skiing is in the faggot stage". The gangsta look has been gone for a while in snowboarding. They still wear baggy clothes, but they don't act niggerish as hell, like skiers still do. They don't roll around with chains, and talk in ebonics, and blaze mass quantities of chron.

I am thinking that the gangsta steeze is on it's way out.

We gonna whack it til the wheels fall off.

i think that people can say "i want that one piece" if they want

its unfortunate that fuckin everyone has to wear the same gay shit...but thats gonna happen no matter what

if thats how its gonna go down....i say that we should be more creative and come up with more stuff rather than bitch about everyone wearin the one pieve

take advantage of this and buy something different than what everyone else has....you will stand out

i rocked the cow costume a couple days this season...and the jean skiing....and the flapping open jets jacket

as long as im skiing i don't care what i look like cuz i'm always hot lol

'kevin whyed nils pull you out?' 'Cuz i was touchin bitches.' 'No seriously why did he put scott in for you.' 'Scott doesn't touch bitches.'

Viva Candide

The thing is , i anyone can say they getting it but howmany 14 year old kid's can con there parents into a 700 doller ski suit . There arent going to be many out there. But i will have one. mmmm Black and im getting it because i like how it look's not because some pro is rocking it.

Skiing, like everything else on this planet, is going to be going moving infinitively through fads and fashions. There's always going to be people to complain, and people like Anathema to say "I'm so original because I'm against the current fad, as is everyone else!"

Shut the hell up. You're not changing anything.
