Stupid People

I have noticed that there are alot of stupid people in high school. Not just people that call themselves stupid to be funny, but actual stupid people. Im in Algebra I standard for math and there are 3 seniors in my class(im a freshman) It boggles thier minds when they try to do simple equations. But its funny though!

I've come to the conclusion that 10% of all people are stupid. There are always 3 dumb people in every one of my classes.

Yeah I would definately have to agree with you on that one. There are waaayyy too many stupid people in the world.

I disagree. Many of the 'stupid' people are just misinformed, and they are misinformed because they are just to ignorant to learn. There is a fine line between stupidity and ignorance, but the best way to sum up the difference is that stupidity is a mental flaw, and ignorance is a personality flaw (or so it is in my opinion).

 
Yeah I would have t agree with that. Just replace the word stupid in my last post with ignorant and you have it right. Personally I find ignorant people far more aggravating than flat out stupid people.

well, if you're a freshman, you're stupid compared to me, cause i was in algebra 1 in 8th grade, geometry in 9th.

but im stupid compared to some of my friends who were in algebra 2 freshman year.

yeah i think there are lots of stupid people but there are also tons of lazy people, who dont do any homework and dont study or do anything.

 
Yeah its all relative. I'm in pre calc as a junior, some of my friends are only in geometry. But i have other friends in calculus, actually just 1. but still...

 
I think the amount of lazy people surpasses the amount of stupid. And since when do you judge someone's intelligence by how many math classes they took in high school? I never took calculus because I hate math, so does that make me stupid? I know alot of smart people who just didnt have the drive to do good in school, not because they are stupid but because they just didnt care.

 
i dont think ur lazy if u dont try and do homework and shit, that doesnt make me lazy i do all kinds of other stuff that 'lazy' people wouldnt do. Its just that the way they teah u things in school is so pathetic, we never actually get ot apply what we learned... i learn everything I know from reading and other sourcces, i got a 1550 on my Sat's yet im in the bottom 10% of my class...

 
If I read school books as much as I read FREEZE and watch MSP then I'd probably be top of my classes. mmmmm.

I never do my homework and I have better marks then 1/2 of the class....

Those phenomen are normal at secondary school but not at cegep.....

secondary school is like high school and cegep is like university or college....

Here is what I am thinking...

I can live with stupid people, there are plenty of people who just don't have natural intellectual talent, just like some people are athletic while others aren't. The unfortunate thing here is that these people often times simply don't understand basic educational concepts and begin to fall behind in school. After a while they get sick of it since nobody likes to fail, and most people reach a point where they basically give up, at least somewhat. I've developed this from my sister, who in most definitions of the word would be considered stupid. She is 12 and is unable to spell most basic words, she struggles with multiplication tables, and I question whether or not she has ever actually finished a book in her life. She pays no attention at school and has basically given up on learning, but I think it is actually possible to make my sister an above average student. I decided to try and get my sister to succeed in school a couple months ago, and it is actually having an effect. In about 6 weeks she has gone from failing 3 classes, to having a B/C average and failing none. A stupid person truly can acheive if they are given a structured environment and pushed and willed to do their best. The problem is, that the school system has ignored those of slightly below-average intelligence for so long, that rebuilding that will to succeed intellectually becomes a momentous undertaking.

Rather than having no will, an ignorant person has an overly strong will. The sad thing is that ignorant people are often the most intelligent among us. I would say that Appskier may be one of the most intelligent people on this site, but from what I have seen, especially after the tragedy of sep. 11, he is very ignorant. Unfortunately, ignorant people do not easily change, and a case could certainly be made that it is impossible to change a highly ignorant person. My mom, for example, is very ignorant and has never changed, and will never change. She can make a stereotypical, prejusiced, arrogant, and all over ignorant comment, and you can then provide incredible evidence against what she has said, but it won't change her opinion whatsoever.

I support people who simply lack the intellectual ability to perform well, but I can't stand or tolerate an ignorant person.

 
i agree with everything g-dubs said except that u seem to define succes as doing well in school etc. which i totally do not agree with, i think that sucess should be whether or not u are doing what u truly want to do... for me that has nothing to do with going to a good college or making a lot of money, its all about having ppl around u that u love and doing the things that are very important to you, for me its music art and skiing... this doesnt make me unintelligent tho, even tho i do not excell in a school setting... im more intelligent than most ppl in my class but i dont do nearly as well gradewise as most of them do.

12.7% i'm wishing were in jail for cluttering the ski slopes

47.85% of my sister's 8th grade class have kissed the opposite sex (i hadn't thought of kissing as yucky untill recently when i had to watch her do it in a play. got lots of pictures. hehee. anyone want one? ugh! bleck!)

and all the rest still seem to piss me off.

side note: it's been a long night and i'm in a bad mood. i'm sorry. i truely do like everyone. even the snow bunnies and assholes.

 
im actually in the middle of my class. 2 honors classes, 2 normal, and one advanced but not honors

our schools would improve almost 10 fold if we brought down class sizes to about 10-15 people per class. Like g-dubs said 'stupid' people can learn but the least effective way to do that is in a large class with almost no one on one contact. If you can give these people help in the normal class you can solve many problems. Toutoring doesen't have anywhere near the effect for a few reasons:

1. 99% of the time it is out of school taking up time the person could be doing other things, do they really think they are going to get their full attention at that time?

2. For many people getting blatient help like that is very offensive, if the teacher identifys these problems they can do it with out making the student feel more stupid.

3. Many 'specialists' that help students are doing it on their off time for extra money or other things. Many times they won't be totally in the teaching mood. Giving the student a less then stellar learning environment.

Also like g-dubs said some people are ignorent, or set their mind on one flawed theory and will never change it.

Yup like Taylor said, the below average student recieves very little attention in public school. Those who are at the top of their classes (be them the smartestm or often times not), will get a ton of attention, as will those with very obvious learning problems like Downsyndrome. But those who struggle somewhat are just going to be passed further and further along and continue to struggle.

 
try goin to a preppy ass private school. There are so many kids in my school (xaverian brothers high school) who are there just because their dad went there, or he donated a coupla million dollars to the school. It's dumb.

 
i goto a semi private public skool. i admit i am one of the preppy kids. also my skool is full of rich snobs, i admit i can be one at times too

 
i hate my public school all the girls here think that girls that skateboard are nasty,i'm not though.. but o well thats why most my friends at my home school are guys. at cva its a different story

 
I go to an private all boys school, if you get below a C- average you're out. So at least be happy you have people of the opposite sex

 
Me and PhattBevan go to a phreakin' wicked as school, it's so phatt. I'll miss it next year when I move away. Maybe I shall come back and teach Rec there one day mmmm, perhaps. Yeah, it's cool. *sniff*.

I still look at this thread 'Stoopid people' everyday and expect my name to come up.

Why are you all complaining about stupid people? For all you know you could be stupid to someone else too. We are all ignorant. Maybe you would be entitled to complain if you were perfect and all knowing but of course no one is.

i just skip all of my classes and play in the video editing lab...like i am doing right now :-)
