Stupid fucks

Or maybe you just get swayed by skewed or insufficient math? You can get a prius for $21k that gets 50 MPG. Let's say a comparable car is 16k that gets 25 MPG (which there really isn't). If gas is $4.50 a gallon, which is less than the average in my town.

Driving 15,000 a year. Prius = $1,350 in gas, other car = $2,700. That makes up the difference in less than 4 years. Plus the prius has a far better resale value (note this isn't taking into account higher insurance and registration, which would be negligible).

Driving 30000 a year (which would be a key reason to buy a prius) would be $2,700 a year in gas for the prius. $5400 for the other car. This pays for the difference in less than 2 years.

But I am sure the local paper in your podunk town is right.

I don't drive a prius, but i do mooch my mom's quiet often. It has 130k without much maintenance and has had no problems.

In CA they are so prevalent that they are just like another car. Maybe in other parts of the country owners have some self-righteous, south park style attitude.

I would never want one in the snow, ever.

But you can all have your own opinions based of anecdotal evidence, flawed data and rationalizations.

And I really don't give a shit about the environment, so that doesn't sway my opinion at all.

Dude my 06 is worth at least $25,000 right now. I'm not kidding. It's worth what my car was msrp 2 year ago. I haven't really lost any money here. Hows that for an investment.

I am in the process of selling my parent's right now. 04, 130k. Probably lost like $7k after tax, title and license. Thanks CA for hooking up the carpool stickers and increasing the value about 3 grand.

my parents have been driving the same GMC suburban since 96

it gets 13-15 MPG but dirt cheap insurance...

what? do you want to be part of the solution or the problem? the problem is that people are emitting CO2 right? well you're doing it and funny thing is that you're freaking out over people that do the same thing as you. hilarious. its very reasonable to bike where you need to go. don't preach about something you only care enough about to throw your parents money at and hope that you feel better about yourself. you're still part of the problem. stop preaching, stop being so angry and until you do something respectable- shut the fuck up. that's how the world goes baby cakes. stop hating, give yourself a big ol' hug for being "environmentally friendly" and worry about yourself.

Right. I'm going to ride 40 miles to my work.

That's reasonable?

I'm going to stop checking this thread. Obviously it's not going anywhere.

nah im completely serious. i find the fact that you hate on someone really bad for driving a car that gets less gas mileage than yours. and 40 miles? if you think thats unreasonable then wow haha, get off your ass and do some exercise. my parents are over 50 and a 40 mile ride is something they do when they dont have enough time to do a real bike ride.

I'm suprised your dad was even able to produce good sperm, you should consider yourself lucky to be alive.

woah i don't remember writing this at all, i was super drunk haha. but yeah to clear it up, i dont hate hybrids, i think they are a good way to go, but i just hate it when people think they are like the greatest person in the world and will hate on your for not having one. there is a guy at my work like that and is just like oh my god you drive an explorer, and im like yeah try driving your prius over a mountain pass dude.

so basically its cool if you have one, i respect that, its just the elitist attitude that many of these people have that bothers me.

sorry if i offended anyone, lol

Dumbass.

But yeah, Diesel is better than Hyrbids... for now. But it's a good idea to support stuff like the Prius so companies will be encouraged to drop money on green technology in the future. Oil ain't gonna last forever, and the world is pretty fucked when that happens. We need oil for the countless other things it's used for - plastics, medicines, etc. We shouldn't be wasting it on transportation when alternatives are out there in desperate need of funding and development.

a hybrid car really isint that much more environmentally freindly then a diesel. why you ask? because the nikle needed to make the batterie is mined in ontario and then shipped around the world a few times to get devolped and then its put into the car whice polutes the enviroment so just because your using less fuel then a regular car dosent meen your using less c02. so i would say that an internal combustion hydrogen engine is the way to go in the future.

Yes but diesel used to be way fucking cheaper than regular gas. Its cheaper to produce, yet with the huge supply and demand these days its now about a good $5 a gallon.

this thread has such an appropriate title

to whoever said riding 40-50 miles on a bike is a reasonable distance....just wow

to the guy that said diesel is better than regular gas

-costs a lot more and although has less Co2 it produces more smog and uses more oil to produce

and to the guy that said my paper is wrong about hybrids....I live in central new york, syracuse actually, so its not quite a "podunk" town whatever the fuck that entails. And do better research next time, The base model prius is gonna run you close to $25 grand after all is said and done....

a similar model that that gets less but still pretty good gas mileage? the base model corolla actually, which will easily cost 6 or 7 grand less. Definitely not going to pay for itself after 2-4 yrs

either way, the world will forever be a petroleum based economy no matter how many hybrid cars we buy, energy efficient homes we build, etc. etc. We are going to rely on oil until the earth is dried up son

the fact that people now-a-days think a 40 mile road ride is insane/unpractical/undo able shows how out of shape and lazy our society is becoming. ok dont want to work at all? how about he gets a moped that gets 80+mpg? my point is that the dude was freaking out and totally contradicting himself. him and the other smug assholes need to cut the crap which is the whole point of this thread.

road biking is the gayest shit ever. I don't care if you put on the spandex and ride across the country. it's unreasonable to ride 80 miles everyday. What normal working person is going to throw away all their free time outside of work to save a few dollars in gas by riding their bike for hours at each end of their commute? Get bent, stay off the roads, tell the grocery stores to start delivering food by bike to lower costs.

exactly, i just had no idea how ot say it, biking is great but if yout ake a highway or fast paced raod and long distances, its so impractical to save 4 bucks.

Uh... no dude. Forty miles on a bike isn't so bad if you're doing it for pleasure, but today's society is too fast-paced to commute that far on a bike day-in and day-out. You're expected to do too much in too short an amount of time. It's just not practical.

not about saving money right? its about saving mother earth. or what are you saying is that its ok only when its convenient and saves you a lot of money? guys are just reassuring the fact that people who buy these cars are not really interested about the environment at all and by tearing into someone that also drives a car because it uses a little more gas just shows how pompous and smug they are.

no im saying for me to get to work, i have to drive 30 miles on a highway, and i dont get home till 930 with a car, so with a bike if i got home by 1045 thats be good, so for me to ride a bike itd be completley impracticle. i wouldnt do it just to save a few bucks, but if i was going to the store a fewm mins away i would ride a bike.

haha dunno why your all bickering and shit but hyrbids make a bigger "carbon footprint" on the environment because of what it takes to produce them. soo in that case fuck toyota. FORD BUILT TOUGH

what are you talking about? are you trying to say that diesel cars undo history? his logic is right, diesel cars get better gas mileage, and you dont have to make a conscious effort to do so. diesel cars work more efficiently than regular cars at ALL speeds and efficiencies, unlike the prius, which is better at under 40 mph while using the brake a lot and not accelerating. next time you try to prove a point, dont just yell and say that people are causing history to fall apart.

Yeah, but 75 cents more a gallon when you're nearly doubling your fuel efficiency is a pretty solid trade-off. Learn math. If you look at only the financial side of things, diesel is the way.
