I dunno how the hell they call sticking a net in the water fishing. Especially when their catch looks like it does in the below picture.

'Natives' from here are allowed to stick fuckin nets in the river and catch all the fish and who knows what else, it's shitty for people who actually take a rod and reel and fish for them like my friends do.

Grr... It pisses me off about the amount of bicatch that is wasted. It's so terrible. There need to be better restrictions and laws that are more well enforced.

Up in washington these natives argue that its ok for them to kill whales casue it preserves their heritage. THat is such crap. They run casinos and buy clothes and food at stores. There is no way they need to hunt whales most of the people said they didnt even think it tasted good after they caught the whale. Eagles are hella tight. I love those birds

problem is, theres no way to regulate a fishing boat out at sea. no gov't has the resources or money to plant a guy on every boat to watch every catch to make sure nothign goes wrong. what needs to happen is better fishing tactics, bait that attracts on desired fish, synthetic food, breed selective catching systems, stuff liek that.

thats true clausen, but still they are living creatures and have just as many rights to live as we do. whales dont go eating people cuz we never do anything for them. and that water looks mad dirty and theres a dead fish in it, let the natives fuck it up and find a better lake to fish in. that just sucks for the eagle big time, they are so chill.

i know eh...i spend over $1000 bones on rods reels lines and fly tying stuff and these guys go out and by a net for 5$ and catch lots of fish and even endangered spieces...that pisses me off

A couple things....

First - I fish all the time. With a flyrod. And I almost alway throw the fish back.

Second - Natives should be allowed to fish however they damn well please. American Indians have been so screwed out of every right that was ever guaranteed to them that we really need to let them keep fishing whether you like it or not.

Third - NAtive fisherman hardly kill anyfih compared to the huge fleets in the ocean. They have strict quotas set by the government.

Fourth - Habitat destuction kills way more fish and eagles than any fishing net ever did. Ever wipe your ass with toilet paper? Well, think about the whole forest that got cut down to make all that TP. Then think of the Eagles' nest that went with it. Think of the hillside that got swept away because the trees couldn't hold the dirt anymore. Think of the river that doesn'thave salmon any more because it's full of dirt.

fifth - Ever eaten salmon from the grocery store? Fish sticks? imitation Krab meat? Well, then stop being a friggin hypocrite.

6th - Whale hunting for natives is about as cool as it gets. You have to remember that Europeans and Japanese killed off the whales to begin with, not the Indians. If we had left them to their ways, there would still be plenty of whales.

 
You must be an indian or something, here's what I know from living in a city largely populated by indians.

First - My mom is a cop, over the night, 96% of the people they pick up are indians, they spend their welfare money on booze. I mean, fuck, they get paid for every week they go to school, but they drop out and waste their life on booze.

Second - About 1% Work. This 1% are great people, they're wanting to be different, I know a man with indian ancestors who wanted to work because he lived around the type of indians that I see daily and wanted to make a change. I also work with one, my friend's dad is one, they work, that's cool, the one's that sit back and collect OUR MONEY in the mail are the ones I hate.

Third - Gangs. Since most indian parents around here don't support their children in any way, their kids (now teens) form gangs of say... 20 people, and jump tiny groups of people and steal all they have. A friend of mine and 2 of his friends got jumped walking out the doors of the aquatic center, he was thrown against a barrier and knocked unconcious, when he woke up his wallet was gone and his friends were bloody sitting next to him.

Fourth: They can do whatever the fuck they please. The government doesn't do shit cause it's 'their land'... but what the fuck would be on the land if the europeans didn't come to North America? It'd be a bunch of people smoking tobacco around fires eating bison meat and living in tents getting into little stick fights every day.

I live in a place where you go into the mall and 95% of the people (not including the workers) are indians and they smell, they don't clean up after themselves (restaurants), they loiter, they smoke outside the doors, they swear around children, they do any dirty thing you can think of and 1/2 of them are still drunk when they spend their welfare money.

Come here and you'll see what I live with, how disgusting it is.

And no, I'm not completely racist, because like I said, I know some that work for a living and support their families like every other race out there and they're cool to me. But the ones that take their race for advantage... I fuckin hate. We get pushed around, we get budged out of lines, because it's 'their land', and if you kick one of their asses you've got a gang of 200 people coming after your ass.

The Russians played a HUGE part in killing off the whales, too. They came to Alaska and took full advantage of the Natives by paying them shit money (which was more than they had, so the natives were all for it) to go risk their lives everyday and hunt whales and sea otters.

The guy who wrote the long message before Steve (I forgot who it was) made many good points in my opinion. Habitat destruction IS a HUGE cause for wildlife population depletion. I actually had a debate about that today in my debate class. :)

Anyway, the natives here are a HUGE problem. Many of them (as with the Native Americans elsewhere) get extremely wasted everynight and pass out on people's lawns, in restaurants, and even at Toys R Us. One guy passed out in front of the women's bathroom about a month ago, and we had to call the cops to get him removed. He used to come in everyday to use the phone or get free bags from us, but we eventually banned him. Whenever I drive downtown, I lock my doors because I've had NUMEROUS natives come up and band on my windows and open my door to get a ride or money or a place to stay.

ANYWAY, like whomever said, Natives really aren't the problem when it comes to the regulation of hunting of certain species. Of course they should be allowed to hunt animals that their ancestors did (to an extent), but for the same reasons. Since I started working at the US Fish & Wildlife Service, I've had to deal with them a LOT. Occasionally they take over the quota, but rarely. The rules and regulations on hunting native Alaskan species (e.g. whales, walrus, polar bears, and sea otters) are ALWAYS agreed upon and discussed with the Native Alaskans there. The meetings and conferences are massive, and there are always translators there and whatnot. The ones who break the laws and regulations are 95% of the time Caucasian. For example, a couple of months ago, 44 female walrus (they were all female because the males were out at the time, and the femals all had their pups and whatnot) were found slaughtered. Their heads were gone, and the rest of the bodies were just laying there. Obviously, someone needed the money for ivory. The babies were left there to just die (still alive, but they needed their mothers for food, protection, and whatnot), so we sent out a few native hunters to go kill them (yes, I know it's sad, but they would have died anyway, so we agreed that they should be put to good use instead of just wasted). My point of this whole thing was that the guys who killed them (and ended up being caught... they're in DEEP shit to say the least) were... you guessed it... white.

I do agree that over-commercial fishing is a huge problem, though. Many streams, rivers, and creeks that used to be loaded with salmon are now barebone dry of fish (for example, the Eklutna River and many of its neighbors).

STeveXZs what the fuck - First of all, go back and read your post, and if you can't see that you are a racist, then you are also a dumbfuck (like those two don't go hand in hand).

Also - Take a minute to think about WHY native people and communities are like that. Take two goddamned seconds. Their Land was STOLEN. They were lied to repeatedly. In the thirties, their children were stolen from them and put in boarding schools against their will where they were forced to deny their own culture. They were given alcohol, to which they have a genetic predisposition for addiction, for the express purpose of stealing their land. In the mid 1800's, the US GOVERNMENT gave Indians blankets contaminated with SMALLPOX, in order to kill the Indians outright. This is one of the first documented instances of biological warfare. It is also evidence that indians were the target of GENOCIDE as perpetrated by the US government. Another example is when the gov't PAID people to kill the buffalo and let the buffalo ROT, because the buffalo was the main food source for the plains Indians, and when the buffalo were gone, the people died. When Europeans arrived, there were around 12 million people in North America with cities as advanced as anywhere on Earth at the time, with agriculture MORE advanced than that in Europe, and by the 1880s, there were less than a million natives left.

And NO, I'm not native, I've just studied a little history. Like you should do. REad a book, you ignorant fuck.

 
dyna-dog. you read a book... whoopdeefuckingdoo. come live here for a week and you'll see the shit that we have to go through. I was filling out an application for employment at the canadian tire here and this indian told me to go away, so I was like 'why?' and she's like 'we're buying something' so to be courteous i moved... but she just stood there, didn't buy anything, just budged me away from the counter space so she could stand there.

The river here is pretty much bare and anyone with a rod never gets fish, because the indians are allowed to set up big fuckin nets that catch everything before anyone else can even get a chance.

And like Sarah said, they pass out in People's lawns, outside of stores, and cause the cops hell. My mom, used to be a full time cop, now just goes out every once in a while, knows this for a fact. she knows way the fuck more than dyna-dog does.

the thing is, the indians did get treated like shit, but so did black people, do blacks go out and get wasted every night and demand money from the government and look for pity? No, black people have pride and they live like everyone else, equal, the indians want more, more and more. there are natives with pride, the ones that work, the ones that want to change the way they're seen as. my dad's friend dennis being one of them, worked his ass off day in and day out and the building store my dad manages, he was one of the head guys, never touched alchohol, worked instead of getting welfare, and married a white woman.
