Studio Speakers

Yo NS, finally getting to build my work studio since I have a house at school now. Just got a second monitor and am currently looking for some studio speakers.

Don't want to spend more than $300.00 (Yes I know I probably should, but if I ever needed to do true sound stuff my school has a super nice room, this is just for personal stuff)

Looking to see what you guys suggest/have/ to stay away from. Anything is helpful because I know about zero. The shop near me had some KRK, M-Audio, and JBL that seemed decent but any remarks would be helpful.

Thanks

Are you looking for something that sounds good, or something that sounds accurate?

Assuming you are using them as reference monitors (rather than just listening speakers), you don't want something that colors the sound. In which case, avoid KRK (I don't care what anyone says - they are the Beats of reference monitors). The M-Audio BX5as are well-liked in that price range (I used them for years). Very flat response, with a smooth top end that makes them good for casual music listening (less ear fatigue).

If you just want some loud speakers, the KRKs are great for the exact reason that makes them terrible monitors: they make everything sound good.
