Strong, Metal, Tripods

I recently broke my cheap tripod and I don't want to keep replacing with more cheap, plastic-y, tripods. I have been trying to research older metal tripods and all I don't really know what or where to look. I would like to spend less than $100 for legs and head. I am kind of interested in the Manfrotto 144 as I have seen it suggested on here a few times.

I've seen the combo that I own (144b + 141RC) go from 30 bucks to 300.

You just have to get lucky.

And the trick to make it go super low: (remove the rubber knob from the shaft and flip upside down)

You can. I have an old Manfrotto (art 095, made in Italy, can't find it on google) that came with a fluid head that I got off of kijiji for $60.

I saw a 144 and a 141RC for 100 on ebay recently. I could probably do $100 for just legs and use my old head for a while

It's gonna be hard to find a nice tripod and head for under $100. But if you have to spend a little more on either the head or tripod, put the money into a quality fluid head.
