Strictly Premier Night in Boulder

Okay so this is gonna be a story and if you dont like reading sorry

I'm a freshman at CSU and when I saw Dan was going on the BYOBeanie tour through Boulder I knew I had to make it out. Being a carless college student in Fort Collins, I had convince my friend Blakeley who is also stoked on skiing to drive out with me to check it out. She seemed pretty interested in the whole ordeal. I told her while we were in town we had to check out the Strictly premier night. I have been waiting on Most Gutter for some time. Ive been watching Barrett and Zahner and Flanagan teasing street shit for what feels like forever. I was so excited I was gonna finally get to get out and get stoked on skiing. While as we were preparing to leave Blakeley informs me she has a shift she totally forgot about and we were going to be able to leave town until 6. I knew this meant I had to miss the BYOBeanie event but I made sure to focus on the positive. I was still gonna get to check out Most Gutter on premier night. As I was leaving in a rush I grabbed all the essentials (phone, card, ID) and hit the road. Blakeley and I had somehow managed to convince several of our non skiing friends to come with us to Boulder so we were a crew now.

By the time we got there, parked, and bought our tickets the line was already impressive. It was then that i realized to get into the Fox theatre, we would need to provide proof of vax. Our crew were all fully vax'd so no issues there. Except for Blakeley and I as we both realized we were without our covid cards. Apparently didnt register to me as an essential. Nonetheless we waited in the long line and showed the crew at the door that according to our school we were both fully vaccinated. That of course didnt fly. So here we were with all of our clueless non skier friends inside the venue and the two die hards stuck outside with 60 bucks worth of unusable tickets because we forgot our covid cards. We both reluctantly and emotionally accepted our fate and told our friends to call us when they were done. I stood outside the door trying to get people to take our tickets for free but for some reason we were treated like aliens. Don't be too nice these days I guess. We decided to walk around Boulder and just see what happened.

Walking with our heads down I was somewhat startled when someone complimented the Arsenic crewneck I was wearing. Looking up at the passing figures my eyes were drawn to a tall arsenic T and a Gatorade towel. I of course turned around and tried to control my enthusiasm as I approached him. I believe everything happens for a reason and sure enough I ended up meeting Dan and shaking his hand just like I had set out to do in the first place. As cheesy as it sounds talking to him helped me remember/realize that it didn't matter where I was, I was still with the right person. I could watch Most Gutter when it got released later. See life is what you make of it. We can sit around feeling sorry for ourselves or we can realize that our story is told by the choices we make and how we handle adversity.

Blakeley and I ended up watching a high school football game, cheering for a team of which neither of us had ever heard of (they lost :( ) and walking around Boulder together and just enjoying the great friendship we had built. Because we were literally anywhere with the right people funny enough. It was honestly the most fun I've had since moving out here. Ive been so focused on school and work and priorities that I lost touch with the right people. Not tonight tho.

We ended up meeting back up with our friends who of course had no idea what they had seen or what it meant but they enjoyed themselves and thats what matters. They had brought me a poster signed by the athletes and I was overwhelmingly grateful. Upon opening the poster, however, I felt both pissed and laughed out loud as I read signatures such as "get the vaccine its not scary" "you blew it" and my favorite "hope you get covid". I threw the poster out.

So when it comes down to it, happiness doesnt come from meeting Dan, or seeing a ski movie, or getting a poster, or any of that. Happiness comes from who you surround yourself with. The people that make the day in, day out struggle worth it. The people that make you laugh and smile and be yourself. The people that make a house feel like home. The people that aren't just apart of your life but define it. The people who turn a shitty night of failure into cheering at a football game and laughing until it hurts. Anyways thats all I have for tonight. Just a reminder to myself and the whole community to cherish the simple things and cherish the people that our lives and journeys what they are.

Love and Peace at 1:30 on a school night,

Jack

Bruh hold tf up the athletes were dissing you via signatures?

Parker White drew a fat cock on my Level 1 poster a few years back because I was drunk and talking shit. Had to tell him I was way sicker than him tho.

shitty you couldn't get in, that's a big bummer.

the signatures are hilarious though, if anyone got offended by that or thinks they were even remotely serious, get your head checked

Idk man I think I'd be really bummed.

love the positivity but also love the vax messages that's hilarious

glad OP laughed it off, i'm sure people on here will get their butts all hurt about it tho, as is tradition

Yeah man I mean I get they were tryina be funny. Just sucks when a fan waits for months to see a project and pulls all the strings to get there just to be laughed out for not getting in. Again my feelings aren’t hurt, but I am fully vaccinated and I would never treat a fan of my work like that.

I reluctantly put that part in because I knew inherently there were people who were gonna take it too seriously but it was too priceless to miss.

life is an attitude man! Positivity rules!

i wasn't trying to be a dick with my response, you appear to have a good head about the situation but I just reaaaally wouldn't take it as seriously as you seem to be. you said you laughed it off and that was the correct response. i'm sure those dudes appreciate the support and I can assure you, beyond the shadow of a doubt, that they were not intentionally or seriously trying to knock you down or make you feel bad.

Good to finally meet you homie. Glad you have a great night despite it being different than the one you planned on. Catch you next time!

I remember I got a Tanner Hall signed poster a while back and CR was sitting next to him and drew poop falling out of Tanners ass into the snow. I kept it for a few years and got rid of it but I regret not keeping it now as it was pretty epic.

To the OP that is a pretty legit story. The CU campus is dope to blaze up and walk around at night.

That's super odd the fox requested you have the physical copy, everywhere I've gone just pictures of the vaccine card have worked. Good thing I didn't get tickets, my vax card is still at my parents house, probably a sign for me to go get it and make copies this weekend.

awesome story, the past three ski premieres I have went to have ended up completely changing plans and making me late for the movies. Every night was still amazing because I was with the right people, thank you for making me realize and appreciate that

Force the vax mfs are anti-American wack ass bitches. You know why? Let’s put things in perspective real quick. Am I vaccinated? Yes. Do I support vaccines? I guess so. Am I gonna shit on people for not wanting to take the jab because long term effects don’t exist yet? Absolutely not. I’m a simple and logical man. It’s not rocket science.

BuT yOuR cOlLeGe ReQuIrEs AlL tHeSe OtHeR vAcCiNeS…

yes, I’m aware! And we know what the long term effects of those are, which are usually nothing.

It’s your call, a “risk” if you will, either choice. That’s why this is motherfucking America, not some pussy eastern country where freedom of decisions like these aren’t in your hands.

imagine taking the nonsense a couple drunk kids at a ski movie premier wrote on a poster seriously enough to write four ironically also non sensical paragraphs about it

Sus take here from me but I agree. I am vaccinated and definitely understand the benefit of vaccination. However im also about freedom of choice, so if you don’t want to get vaccinated, that’s fine. But just because I support freedom doesn’t mean I don’t think you’re a fucking selfish prick. It’s about the bigger picture and that’s what people don’t realize. When you read these stories about somebody dying from Covid and then their entire family choosing to get vaccinated AFTER the fact, I think it’s fucking cringe.

I had nothing better to do on a Friday night lol

That's a great story, Jack. Things DO happen for a reason. You'll be hyped on the movies, and will see them soon enough. Patience is wisdom.

Very wack that someone wrote "I hope u get covid". I wouldn't wish that upon anyone, anti vaxer or not

Forreal. You have an audience as a professional skier and to say things like that isn’t a great look. Against vaccinations or for them, lots of kids look up to you and love to repeat things they hear so Simon says that’s not cool

Oskari Raitanen wrote “Shit on my Tits!” on my poster from the Poor Boyz Grand Bizarre premiere. I hung it in my bedroom for something like 6-7 years because I thought pro skiers were god. Weird af now though..

Totally agree it just seems like a super dickish thing to write on a poster you’re signing for people who are supporting your shit. Replace covid with just about any other ailment and if a skier I supported wrote “hope you get an ear infection!” on a poster for me after spending money and time at their project, I would 100% be like what the fuck?

Bro forreal!!!! People showing out and pulling up to premieres and watching content only helps you and you wanna say some shit like that ??? shit is weaaaaak

100% and I’m guessing these riders thought OP was an anti vaxer which isn’t even the case. Pretty lame ?‍♂️

Won't work everywhere but taking a picture on your phone is good to have. I went to a few shows and had mine on the phone.

Sucks getting shut out though.

oh my god this thread is hysterical.

thanks for coming out to the show and supporting us and really sorry you couldn’t get in. they were accepting both physical copies aswell or a photo on your phone of the vax card as per boulder county mandates. tix were $17 a piece so not sure how two tix cost you $60. i know there were some annoying AXS system fees if you bought them online but no way were there $26 in fees.

ski movie poster signings are drunk, loose, and a hell of a lot of fun. like some people have commented, there’s always raunchy and humorously insulting shit signed on every poster. while “hope you get covid” isn’t in in the best taste, the boys gave you shit in a fucking funny way. why are all y’all reading so far into it thinking its some kind of social commentary and that skiers can’t act inflammatory or controversial. you guys are sounding sensitive as. idk, i’d way rather have a poster with some funny ass insults and raunchy drawings on it over some disingenuous “thanks for coming to support” or “sorry you missed it!” where’s the personality in that? wish that you and the rest of you offended assholes could have been there in person to catch the vibe at the poster table instead of making sweeping assumptions from the outside about the character of my friends, who were fucking around, laughing with the fans getting signatures, and signing funny shit on the posters of projects that we all poured ourselves into.

the movies are gonna be free online in a few months.

Whoa I think you are being sensitive with that lengthy response lol I don’t understand the new notion that because someone didn’t think some attempt at humor was funny that they’re being too sensitive. You even said it was in bad taste and I’m pretty sure that’s all we ever said. No one called your crew shitty human beings.

I like you also left my card at home and waited in a line for a good 40 minutes.

I had saved the picture of my vaccination confirmation QR code on my phone. You can imagine my disappointment when the person checking at the door said they don’t except that as they don’t have the scanner.

Fortunately, being a competent human, I remembered that I had read on the event info that you could download the mycolorado app to show proof. About 5 minutes of app downloading and account set up is all it took to have the proper documentation on my phone and be allowed in.

Sorry it didn’t work out for you. The movies were dope. Glad you met Dan. Don’t take the message that was written so seriously. We all like to think we’re special and everything that happens to us means something more.

sensitive? sure. you are acting insulted on behalf of someone else you’ve never met. nobody else here said it was in bad taste. you called them dicks. stop gaslighting.

the funniest is animator said “As A PrO sKiER yOu HaVe An AuDiEnCe”

Oh nah I’m not insulted at all it has nothing to do with me. I’m not trying to gaslight you. I’m looking forward to watching it online to raise my preseason stoke even more. I’m a fan of y’all’s. ?

Yeah man idk. They told me 32 bucks for tickets at the door. I paid. I just didn’t bring my card and didn’t realize there was a mandate. That’s on me

as for the poster, this ain’t my first rodeo. I get the purpose behind the funny remarks. If you go back and read the thread the thread isn’t about the Covid card or the poster. It’s about making the best of an unfortunate situation and it’s a reflection about what really matters in the end.

Is this not the same site that got the Fagan twins cancelled out of the ski world and all their sponsors dropped for saying the n word on a tik tok when they were both 16?

Yo Jack! I actually met your friends, and had signed that poster for you! I chatted with them for a few minutes and they had said that you were really stoked to come in and check the films. I can assure you that on the wildcard poster I signed I wrote Fuck Covid! Hope to se you at the next one, and I'm sure the other guys were joking around.

The wokeness of the ski industry is disgusting.

Spent the first 2 weeks of September in co.

from Silverthorne to red stone the only place people were wearing masks was the ski shop.

#dorks.

Stfu and jump off cliffs.

That’s your job.

Stfu with all that electric car/covid shit.

This is not even remotely true lmao did you only go in ski shops for 2 weeks?

Grocery stores, hotels, Walgreens, Lowe’s.

Way less people wearing masks out there than in Illinois.

Not what you’d expect if you follow ski dorks on Twitter.

makes me want to move out there even more
