I just got back form my physical therapist and it seem's us skier's really dont stretch enough its really important id advise you to!

Sometimes I do, if there's gonna be a sick morning session, when we show up we'll take a few cruiser runs, then stretch at the top of the park, makes a HUGE difference in how you feel later in the day.

stretching afterward is a lot more important than stretching before...if you really think you're gonna be exerting yourself some sort of warmup helps before

Actually, as with any physical exertion, if you're going to be givin'er, before is equally as important as after. Stretching before helps you're muscles and body be more resistant of injuries and muscle fatigue.

And a run or 2 is more than enough for a warm up.

But yes, stretching afterwards is important. It helps to keep the muscles from tightening and will keep you feeling better the next day.

Also, the benefit of stretching is, the more you do it, the more flexible you'll become over time.

YES please listen to this. THe past two years my ski seasons have been interrupted about every 3 months by an injury in my hip. Since i barely ever stretch all the muscles, especially in my left leg are sooo tight that they pull down my pelvis and the hip flexor muscles out of position. Doing this pinches the huge nerve in my left leg, making my whole leg have hella bad shooting pain everytime i walk, so i can barely walk, run, play soccer, skateboard, and most important SKI. Right now my mountain is open with hella powder, and i CANT SKI cause my leg is hurt so badly. So please stretch, stay healthy, and don't get stuck with my chronic injury, cause the only good thing taht comes with it is more chronic usage to relieve the pain....

yea i've been tryin to more mostly cause my back is screwed up and my hi p goes out of line like once a week but stretching puts it back in place

Yea...most people are just too excited to get out and ski. I've heard alot of people say that they're really sore after a day of skiing. When I ask them if they stretched some laugh and some ask why. It's more important than you think. Also it'll make you more flexible throughout the season making grabs way easier.

omg, cmon! I do like 20 mins of yoga before and after and i ski amazingly. stretch, it does wonders, you will be more flexible, spinning is alot easier, and, when your back is tight, you use you legs for control, which makes you have shin splints. stretching is a must, i cant ski without it. trust me!

yeah stretching is key for those long days....but heres my question, i know i read an article about sage taking yoga to help with balance/that jazz...do u think other pros do stuff like yoga...i mean look at the octograb, gagnier tweaks the shit out of that. there is no way i think i could tweak my knees that much

I am a physical therapist, and as a professional id tell all of you that pre exercise stretching is an essential way of preventing muscular and ligamentous injury and reducing post exercise stiffness.

Id also tell you that stretching and warming down after skiing is just as if not more important to prevent stiffness secondary to lactic accumulation.

As a skier, id tell you my warm up consists of the irrational dash from the carpark to the lift queue, and my warm down is generally limited to a walk roughly equal to the distance between the ski rack and the beer taps.

dude, my shins KILL and I stretch my legs before skiing but never my back. How do you stretch your back to help with the shins? This could be a breakthrough!

yeah, i dont normally stretch first (though i do warm up) but always after the days over otherwise im useless for the rest of the night
