what car should i get for street racing... it needs to look hot and be relatively quick. price range= under 25k, preferably lower. Right now I'm considering a celica gts vs a dodge neon srt-4.

advice?

91 - 93 supra, put a new intercooler in, bigger turbo, trubo arm, intake and exhaust, strut bar, and a body kit, that should be around 4125 in extra parts and about 3000 - 10000 for the car, you will murder everybody unless you are a puss of a driver, but you are probably not, have fun.

bah for racing dont get either, celica's are slow unless its before a 7th generation and an alltrac, and dont get a stupid dodge. All honda's are really slow unless you pour lots of money into them, I would try to find a audi s4 in the early 90's they are quick 225 hp stock and within your price range. I'm just guessing that you dont actauuly want to put a lot of work into the car to make it fast. Another good car would be a nissan maxima, with some bolt on parts you can get it up to 200 hp, for 25k you could pick up an older porsche or and older corvette. Oh yeah, and street racing is gay. Goto a track if you want to race its safer.

oh yeah another good car would be any eagle talon tsi or mistubitchi eclipse gsx, all wheel drive and turbo, you can make then fast and they are pretty cheap, add more boost and all that stuff and you will smoke anyone. Oh yeah you could get a Pontiac GTP and get a smaller pulley for the supercharger and intake exaust ecu upgrade etc and have a fast car also

old s4 are impossible to find, but if you can buy one, i was just being practical, supras are fast easy to find and REALLY easy to modify, it just changing parts, rather than dismateling your whole block just to put a turbo on.

1991-1995 Ford Taurus SHO. My friend has one of these, and it freaks everyone out he races. Stock it is something like 200hp. Has a yamaha engine - 24V DOHC V6.

Toyota MR2 Turbo 1991-1997 are really sweet

dont go street racing. if you cant get to a track, then dont bother with that rice bullshit, get a subie or a volvo or an escort or something and go rally driving. those fuckin civic exhausts just reduce horsepower at most of the rpm range, and it's way more fun when your car can actually turn. peace

 
word, taurus SHOs are awesome sleepers. just DO NOT get the neon! Their engines are sooo weak. street racing is gay, but sometimes you gotta put the fag who thinks his stock honduh is fast in his place.

go with a subaru, that way you can race through the snow up to your ski resort. I have a subie and it kicks ass in the snow, gravel and on pavement.

 
2003 tiburon I4

Don't laugh, you can get it for a good price, and with a turbo charger,AEM and a cat-back exhaust system, u have a beautiful sleeper. Tiburon I4 engines can withold a lot of horsepower, they are hella fucking style and the aftermarket is getting quite good for them

a.) thanks for the suggestions.

b.) the neon is fast as hell... fastest car under 25k, i think.

c.) i don't have a track near me. we go into hartford and race a4 turbos, a6s, celicas, some heavily modified hondas, modified rsx-s, 3000GTs, lancer evos, wrx, etc. It's only gay if you don't like to drive fast--- and btw i didn't see fast and furious until after i developed my passion for fast cars.

u could look at it that way but there basically the only cars that are made to race, there are other fast cars but the evolution instance has stability bars and racing seats and seatbelts and the mazda speed has a racing exaust and many other engine and body modifications for racing

yes but the thing is, do you want buy a car made to race, or do you want to customize your own car. I'd say half the fun is in customizing your own car. If it comes tuned, then what's the fun.

just so you know, dodge lies about its performance figures for the neon. have been since the neon was introduced. magazines would run dynos and skidpad, braking and performance tests and the neon never does as well as Dodge says it does. who knows? maybe people who work for car mags cant drive. or Dodge has superhuman test drivers. most likely, they're simply full of shit. fastest car under 25k? off the top of my head, I doubt it. The engine might be fine stock, try to mod it, just dont kill yourself when parts start flying off the engine at high speed.

i got its performance off of modernracer.com... they do their own calculations and test drives. it'd be pretty gay if dodge lied about performance... has anyone actually hit 190 in a viper? ~_~

There is no way you can street race without putting money into the car. My cousin is a mechanic and specializes in this sort of thing. You don't need to supe up your car if you are just racing friends though.

yea, i want the best car in that price range and then I'm going to mod it... no matter what i get i'm modding the intake, exhaust, and pulleys.. i might drop a turbo in it if it doesn't have one and i can get a good one for a reasonable price.

 
where do you race in hartford, because alot of people around here go to the pike, and race there, are there even any tracks for racing in CT

the fasted car for under 25K is a 93-94 300zx, stock it has 300hp, real hard to find though.

fuk street racing, hit the track. and rice rockets aren't cool. whoever sed neon srt-4 has a weak engine (221), go suck a dick, a stock car that can go 160 has balls. id say get an eagle talon awd tsi. or get a VW golf and go rallying. other good stock cars, mustang (can get good prices, and with 25k you could easily find a nice 5.0), look at nissan skylines (tougher find), corvettes, anything 6cyl. and above (with exception of impreza and some other 4 cyl abouve 200 hp)

 
yah man get the dodge and keep it completly stock excpt for a apc exhaust tip then install a 150 wet shot of nos but with two buttons just like on the fast and the furrious.

seriously do not build a 'race car' unless you know what you are doing.

 
street racing hahahaha how lame and juvenile is that shit, around here it's like four or five kids in our school that have stickers for their windows and think there awesome cars, but they suck and they'll all be living in trailers with each other, just like the 30 year olds they race that hang out at the high school... it has to be 93-94 the rest don;t have twin turbos and are about 125hp stock, they only made 3000 each year of the 300zx in 93 and 94.

no skeeordie, you go suck a dick. so dodge SAYS the sr4 has 160hp. In reality, it doesnt. second, oooooh the sr4 160 hp, big fucking deal neons have had 150hp for years. and too bad thats PEAK hp, experienced ONLY right before redline. Furthermore, when I say an engine is weak, I mean it cant handle more power and mods. I have SEEN with my own eyes lightly modded neons blow engines on a 50-shot of NOS. Pathetic. Civics can handle more power.

look, if you wanna race it stock, get the damn neon, they ARE quick stock. if you wanna mod it, get something else. when you mod a car you want an engine with lots of 'easy power'. there is no easy power in a neon engine. a lot of the suggestions in this thread are cars with easy power, where you spend a few bucks and you car is significantly faster. a neon needs $1000s to hold more than 50hp over stock. on the other hand you get say a talon, put a bleed valve on the turbo for $5 and have a 250hp or more car. THATS easy power. know what I'm sayin?

get a 2.5 RS subaru, they are fuking tight and fast

or get an mr2 instead of teh celica

crx's r sweet ass if u find one in good shape and put a kit n shit on them

I don't think you know what you are talking about with the srt4. Dodge claims 215hp, this is underrated. It makes over 220hp at the wheels. 0-60 in under 6 seconds, 1/4 mile in the low 14's. sticker price is $19995, fast and a great value.

The street is not the place to race. Get to a track.

 
i have no idea whats in the sr4. nor do i care. all i know is that they cant handle additional power and dodge lies about thier output. I read a publication that said the sr4 only put out 160hp in a 3rd party test. so dont cry to me when your supposed 215hp neon gets smoked by an integra.
