Street/dirt bike

hey all

i am riding XC-mtb for several years now (i finished 4th out of 5 in the tyrolean under 19 championship in 2005, which means i am damn good).

i like it since you really get to know your body when you ride a 4500 ft vertical climb, and downhills are sometimes very tech due to the uphill-oriented material.

over the last two summers i got into freeride/DH biking.

this is almost more fun, small drops, tech passages, speed turns and all that stuff is mad fun.

but now i am looking for a sport which i can excel in a city (beside urbans, i know). so skating, inling and all that stuff is cool, but i am used to ride a bike so i guess streetbiking would be slightly easier for me. were not having a dirtpark, but we have maybe the chance to build one...

i dont really know what kind of bike i am looking for. i wanna do the same kind of biking like the guys in the vids that throw 3s over stairs, clear stairs and even grind. doing manuals or 180s onto 1 or 2 stairs. maybe also this dirtjump-stuff, this 3s, supermans and what the heck...

so what bike is good for that? and how much i have to pay in this category?

thx alot

same i thought you were talking about dirtbikes and i was all excited being that i could really help in that category and then you were talking about riding in the city and i was like oooooohhhh

i think your talking about trial bikes. check out 'gas gas' bikes. i'm pretty sure that is the top brand for those.

specialized hardrock comp hardtail. light lil fucker, $500, easily the bike thats taken the most beating and stayed true. im using it for the same shit you want to do.

Just check out www.pinkbike.com , it's a bit Newschoolers but only for bikers. BTW: I'm in the same position as you. The only other thing I'm looking for is a frame which is also useable for freeriding, so I can swap out the wheels, fork, etc. I'm thinking about buying a Banshee Scratch or something like this. But besides that, I don't have any experience with these bikes, so it might be better for you to ask it at pinkbike. Good luck with finding your bike!

word word. ur like the same as me i started xc way back as a wee boy and then jsut keeped building sick courses in new houses they were building my neighbor hood. then sick trails so i progressed to down hilling and i love that. but also i got a dirtjump street bike cuz i thought it would be sick.. and it is. the bike is the ultimate toy it can jib everywhere in any diffrent terrain cept for water. but i have a specilized p2 i got for 600 and its so legit. look for soemthign with 120 front travel and get a hardtail... also make sure the weight is centered farther back and it makes manuals a breez. make sure u have some geers too for gettin around. i have 18 speeds and also a bash guard for the front ring anddd i have semi slick tires wich is liek smooth in the middle and bumpy ont he sides so i can rip the dirt and cruze the street well. soo get a specilized p model. in my oppinion even tho im super dyslexic these are the best buys. iv ridden a giant stp whatever the bestmodel is and i didnt liek it. weight is too centered hard for bunnyhopps. o and ps these slay the skateparks.

i ride mostly street/park/dirt on my mtb. its brakeless, setup like a bmx, 24in wheels. people ask me what kind it is, but i can't really answer that cause other then the frame (clifcat tankass), i built the thing from the ground up.

ideally i would say get a bmx. they are a LOT more advanced in terms of offering completes that can hold up to that kind of abuse. there are some small mtb frame makers that offer frames+parts packages for decent prices, usually around 1g or so. sinister, transition, geekhouse, come to mind.
