STRATTON WTF???

strattons moving suntanner to byrneside? idk if i like it cuz i really like tanny. anybody know why they decided to do this? but they are putting back the 18' pipe which is good tho. but its in the sun bowl, seperate from the park.

yeah, shits fucked...this is whats going to go down...-the pipe wont be up until half way through the season-byrnside is gonna have 3 jumps and a couple rails, it will most likely not be too good, suntanner is gunna be a shwagg ass boardercross and smoothie and the mini park will be the same thing.
i really hope they put in an effort though, i know some of the park rangers and one of the skiers left for CO and the best snowboard ranger might not get hired back, i really hope it doesnt suck too too bad

yea i saw that and it freakin pissed me off. i already sent them my complaint email and they are douche bags. thats all i gotta say.

oh and that its a good thing i searchbared

uhh yea,
Head park rangers gone.Best rangers arent coming back

STRATTON IS FUCKED>

move to utah.

cole i love you no homo

wait, so this basically means they're just getting rid of one park, right? old smoothie was always a little park, and byrneside has always been a pretty big park (except last year). So we're just losing suntanner? not that big a deal, is it? maybe they'll make east meadow a park again, that was the shit!

its that and the whole money issue. Also last year, not many people shredded Suntanner when the boss man was up their. So he always saw it empty and thought it was a waste of tens of thousands of dollars in snowmaking.

and byrnside should be decent but no jumps over 30 and no big rails. still a little weak.

does anybody know if theres any way that we can get stratton to not switch parks and make features smaller. cuz just a few emails probably wont work

petition!

but that doesn't sound too too bad, last year they didn't have a park on byrnside at all, right? or maybe i'm just retarded.

I emailed Intrawest (owns Stratton) and they gave me this reply.
I am sorry to hear that you are not supportive of the decision to change the use of Suntanner. We at Stratton have been and remain extremely committed to Terrain Parks as a core product of our operating plan. For the past several years we’ve struggled with Suntanner being significantly under-utilized for the amount of effort and financial support it takes to deliver to that level of a park. Currently our other parks are seeing a 20 to 1 usage ratio (or greater) over Suntanner and we’ve made the difficult decision to better align with what the majority of our guests are asking for. I’m hoping that you will find the improvements made to our other parks will make up for not having Suntanner as a park. I thank you for taking the time to let us know how you feel as it does allow us to make improvements to our operations. Please feel free to contact me directly if you have additional questions or concerns. Think Snow! Regards…

^ sounds like a justified response... in today's economy it doesn't make sense to cater to such a small minority of skiers (that being expert park skiers, not all park skiers) especially if it costs so much. while they downsizing their terrain park offerings I'm sure it will probably result in a better maintained "medium" sized park that a wider range of park skiers can enjoy

i dont really get whyeveryone's bitching....the guy in the email is right. When ever i ride stratton i always ride smoothie or byrnside (when its open), The severals i ride suntanner there is almost no one else in there. so i do agree with them about making it a boarder cross track.

its always been great because the other parks would keep the gapers out of suntanner, therefor we had a park to sesh and not worry about getting cut off or whatever. everybody respected each other in suntanner. and i dont remember there being a park on byrneside last year, only the boardercross course. Also, old smoothie has really small features, so suntanner was great for pushing yourself. hopefully stratton will step up in byrneside this year and make a respectable park

no man, this really sucks, smoothie is always crowded and thats gunna get even more crowded with suntanner gone, its not that smoothie is a bad park, but its short and small. and byrnside is quite short too, and you cant hit both in the same runat least suntanner was a whole trail of 4 mediocre jumps and some fun rails, if stratton doesn't pick up this bullshit their puttin down their gunna lose a ton of business

No one rode suntanner b/c the jumps sucked. Just b/c they spent a shitload of money to make something doesnt mean its good... I think this is a big problem with a lot of the management and direction of parks on the east. They think if they make a big pile of snow it is automatically a 'top level' park. SHAPE is way more important then size. SHAPE SHAPE SHAPE

dude, youre talking about stratton. only a small majority of the people are there to ride park. most of the people are there with their small children hoping to make some turns and impress the clients. stratton doesnt give a fuck about park rats and whenever i ride there, espeically last year i felt like i wasnt welcome by anybody that worked there. just go to okemo they're on the same pass

sry for bringin thread back just lookin at soem stratton shit but...

this makes perfect sense. every year there is 10x more people in smoothie for the most part then suntanner. suntanner is a great park and they build it good and it prob costs a shitload to make and only a very small percentage fo the people cna actually hit the jumps and stuff. plus when it was on burnside a few years ago even tho it was smaller it was still a pretty sick park plus once u.s. open park opens itll be sick

ya, they dont care, but look at SKI magazine, (probably the shitiest magazine in the world) but last year, stratton was the top rated park in the US, complete bullshit, but thats what people like to see, im not saying it brings in a bunch of sick skiers and snowboarders but it sure doesn't turn people away, its just another reason for people to go to stratton, "they have the best park" they have great apre ski and restaraunts" blah blah blah,
shits is fucked, but im just saying smoothie sucks especially when there is 5000 little kids on it going up and over the lip, and all the landings are pure ice, and byrnside is just too short, stratton should reconsider things, the minipark is in a perfect spot, but what they need to do (if their done with suntanner) is start the park at smoothie so you can either go down that, and they should make the start of byrnside right next to the top of smoothie so you could get a few extra features in there, a couple jumps, a few rails, thats what they should do.

I emailed them again to find out what was going to be in byrnside.

We are currently planning on setting up more of the same rails that were located on Suntanner last season on Beeline, Byrnside, and if everything goes as planned Big Ben. Our plan is to have a few jumps about 40 – 45 feet in size in Byrnside which we feel will offer a complete progression of parks.

ridetweaks...i dont agree at all. everytime i go to stratton i dont feel unwecomed because i'm a parkrat. If anything i find my self more respected by employes. Several times i've been picked out to help with ski school crap on lifts and what not. and i know that may sond dumb but i think, by ur description of the attitudes of the employees, that they wouldn't even spit on a park rat, let alone trust one on the lifts to be taking care of the kids thety've been entrusted with. You are partially right thoughj, most people do go there just toimpress their clients.

i hear what youre saying but with those kids who are in the ski school, they put them with me too. they just want to get those kids up and down as many times as possible. if youre able and willing they'll send those kids with you.

but seriously, this whole things a huge bummer. just because the big wig at intrawest didnt see adequate amount of riders in the park at the time doesnt mean that people dont ride it.

Agreed that it is a bummer, but from an operational standpoint, it makes sense.

Why spend thousands upon thousands of dollars in resources to run a park that sees limited use compared to other parks around the mountain?

i do agree that its a bummer. but i'll be there nov 28th and 29th nonethe less, hopefully they'll at least have a box or two if they dont have a park open
