I'm, sorry but Stratton Sucks, same shit different year. Jumps have been so dumbed down even with a SES pass... for years now. Took the kids up to ride, cant see managements efforts to parks. Even the web pages for parks is lame. At least even Hunter tries

thank you bees, I go all over,Jiminy, Bromley (big improvement there) Okemo, Magic, Snow, Jay, Stowe was a pass holder at stratton 98-02 when I still rode hard in parks and pipes and they were good. Now the wifes 14yr old son, my nephews and me go shred. Snow's got the best vibe and the best price for what is offered, just a little further to drive. Yup stratton still sucks........ oh maybe this year

Quit your bitchin. The place I ski at has 5 features in its "park," no jumps and the things they do have are terribly built. People have it a lot worse than I, and most definitely worse than you. Be happy you can actually ski and just have fun doing it. Grow up

/sorry for the really pissed off sounding rant

you already have jumps??

quit complaining!

all I have to hit is a skate style inspired park. bad for snowboarders even worse for skiers haha. naw its fun though.

just be happy that you are skiing, and if you really hate the parks that much then why dont you try and do something about it.

Living in Colorado and voluntarily skiing Eldora is kind of like going to the dentist for an unnecessary root canal. Here comes another Karma rape, but ski areas that don't put in decent parks are just pissing away business. The management at Eldora are fools. They have vertical that many midwest and eastern areas would kill for and they put in 5 features. Being so close to Boulder, a decent park at Eldora would bring tons of new biz. Same thing goes for Stratton. I can't think of one legitimate reason why these areas would not put in decent parks. I've heard the argument that they can't afford the insurance. I don't buy it. If that's the case, why put out any features at all? The alternative to putting in a decent park is to barely squeak by every year and then go bankrupt because one year it happens to not snow.

Skiing eldora is kind of like getting four dry sockets after your wisdom teeth removed. I'll get my pass to eldora as long as I have to ride the bus. Hopefully I'll be able to drive to Loveland. I do totally agree that it currently sucks at eldora

Eldora would have huge potential for a sick park scene but the park manager is an idiot. I talked to ski patroller and he said that under the new management people are able to try new things and not be totally micromanaged. And that's all over the mountain. Hopefully eldora will get their stuff together and improve the quality of not only the parks but everywhere else on the mountain. They won't become like any of the summit resorts or even on par with Loveland or A-bay but I think they could step it up.

But I digress. The op shouldn't be complaining about how small and crappy the features are at his park. I don't ski stratton (obviously) but from the looks of their site, the terrain park doesn't look too bad. How bad can a park be if it is home to the U.S. open snowboarding championships?

pretty sure they bring people in to build that course...and it's on a completely different part of the mountain.

i agree though, stratton is weak.

RIP VT Open!

they do bring in some people to help but the parks manager at Stratton does most of the work. and this year the park (besides the mini park) is in the same place as the Open all year (should be up MLK weekend) and they're having a rail park with a lot of rails and jibs in the sunbowl so things are changing.
stop the hate bozdog, as i've said in other threads, you have nothing constructive to say nor do you try and back up your arguments. please stop.

@bozdog, stop bitchin about a bad experience with only one mountain, who cares go to another mountain... In vermont you guys are quite lucky, some good parks I think

some people (like me) don't have a mountain with a park...

You have your thread, I got mine

Snow Park tech builds the slope style and Planet builds the pipe for the Open. Stratton cant build to that level.

Growing up in VT its quite clear that Stratton:a.) Is overpriced (except student passes)b.) Usually has a shitty park until early/mid January (at best)c.) Usually has shitty flat, narrow jumpsd.) Sometimes has some sick rails set upe.) Is like the Breckenridge of the East as far as tourism, tons of gapers
This is why I grew up skiing Brom. Way better vibe even if the park isn't what it used to be back in the day. Mount Snow has been killing it so hard the last few years (like they used to in 1999-2003).

there is SOME truth to this. Sunday pass = $219... not that over priced... Their park does not have narrow jumps at all, Burnside last year had tree to tree landings with 20-30ft wide takeoffs.. how much more do you need? Their rails are always dialed in like Mt Snows. Stratton does have a ton of great woods trails and with the large park moving to Sunbowl this year may be shape up to be good and different from years past (as soon as we get some damn natural snow). Last season, stratton was killing it with their parks and how much snow they got for the woods..

I agree bromley is fun, but the park and terrain is not nearly as good as stratton..

I didn't ride Stratton last year at all because I've moved to Colorado. Maybe their lips were wider last year, but the last 5 years or so Stratton has always had super narrow take offs, ALWAYS. I'm just saying what I learned when I lived in Vermont for the first 22 years of my life. More than "some" truth to my post. I've ridden both mountains very frequently. Who the hell wants a Sunday pass? Single day tickets at Stratton are $82. Affordable, I think not... Don't call me out on shit about VT mountains, you'll always loose.

Hahahaha! You should go up there and offer to run their park for them. I think that would actually be very fun.

easy there killer, im not calling anyone out. i was merely giving information from last years visits to stratton (approx 20 sundays) Yes.. sundays because i work midweek and can only hit day mountains on weekends.. gotta love corporate america..

anyways..

yes, when the park was on suntanner years past, the lips were narrow but easily hittable without issue. Ive never felt i didnt have a wide enough lip there compared to other mountains. As for the "SUNDAY PASS" that you think isnt affordable.. its 219 for a season pass to go on sundays.. it pays for itself in 3 visits... how is that not affordable.. i managed to go there 20 sundays last season and saved 1400$ with that pass.. i think thats reasonable for that terrain in the east coast for a 1.5hr drive from albany ny. you being in CO now should realize there is more to a mountain than wide jumps.. and having 22years of experience in vt mountains should let you realize that stratton has more than narrow lips as well..

Haha yeah. The sad thing is, I'd do a hell of a lot better job than the rest of the park crew just by myself. It gets pretty pathetic up there. That's why I avoid anything with an orange terrain park sign and stick in the glades

i ski stratton all the time because of the college SOS pass ($275 stratton okemo sunapee no black out dates)

and yeah i gotta agree, by now they ought to have a dece park what the hell are we supposed to do in tyrone??? You can only do so many 3's and 5's off 12 foot tables and pretzel variations at 2mph on 50ft boxes 2" off the ground.

Going back to school in januaray, i gotta say OPEN UP OLD SMOOTHIE BACK.

you really need to learn how to read a thread... its right in his post... the first post..from the OP.

"Took the kids up to ride, cant see managements efforts to parks"

Stratton stopped being good after the 2006 season. Way overpriced too - go to Brom, or Mt. Snow if you want park.

Mount Snow: $75 (54 trails open) $1.38/trail

Bromley $68 (no real good park at all and only 32 trails open) $2.13/trail

Stratton: $82 ($79 if bought online) (92 trails open) $0.86/trail

Not really seeing your point here.. i think you get more bang for your buck with stratton.. and are you really going to complain about a $4 difference between mt snow and stratton?

I do agree that if you want park, it makes the most sense to go with Mt Snow as they have a dedicated crew and mountain (Carinthia) for it.

A lot of people complain that stratton is flat, those people must not know about world cup, upper downeastern, and the glades (ie Moon Dance, Vertigo, Test Pilot, etc..)

Of course, if you want good overall terrain, you wouldnt be skiing stratton,mt snow, or bromley and would head right up to Jay/Stowe/Sunday River/etc..

Stratton's website claimed they were going to open the new park in sunbowl on lower middlebrook today. they lied.
