Stratton 13/14

second page.when i left, my patrol director said they were building a new jumpline on the right side of big ben. i'm excited to get back this weekend. its been a long week

I'm looking for some people to ride with when my friends are too lazy to come up (riding alone is fun some times but not for too long)... So who rides Stratton and is willing to tool around with a beginner (this is my first year skiing but I'm trying).... I'm pretty much murked out with some mirror eg2's and a stupid saga sticker on my helmet and some spk's and surface skis, if you see me say whats up... haven't met any nsers up there

i hope it makes more sense than the first jump and angled second jumps. would love to see them ditch the hips and put in a third jump too. or start off with a rail/box feature into the jumps.

i might be working sunday, so i'll try and get down there and watch (im on ski patrol) and make sure you KIDS dont hurt yo'selves!

went to stratton on 1/19 and big ben was okay. decent features but no rhythm to the park at all. very slow, jumps have practically no landing. although, i do like how they made the entrance to the park a skiercross course even though gapers love to ruin it and snake you but cool idea. I give you guys props but the parks can definitely improve.

i beg to differ, i hit the jumps all weekend, especially the big ones on the left and i would say the landings were awesome. the first jump, the deeper you take it on the landing, the better it gets. You could say the jumps "had no landing" because the tables on them are a little small, but if you dial in the correct speed, their a lot of fun.

It's Stratton not Carinthia

i haven't actually been into big ben in a while but i might go take a look this weekend. the pics on facebook look pretty cool.

big ben (and the trail to get to it now that its a mild boarder cross trail) was super fun today. even though it was cold as F--- , the park was on point and the crew did a fantastic job! really like how you can jump around from the right to left side easily to hit the features! tyrol wasnt bad but with the snow, the should have dug out the features a little better. also, open the damn USASA rail and boxes at the base!! Run of the day: Kidderbrook on the skiers right, all the fresh snow was blown over to that side and made it super fun. Second choice would be Black Bear.

see you all next sunday!

Looking forward to getting some Big Ben laps in this weekend. Anyone else around this weekend?

What's the status on getting that pipe up?

im there on sundays and the pipe is for a competition, dont expect it to be open to the public yet. same goes for the rails that are set up below Tyrol.

i dont think the pipe will be done anytime soon. they're still pushing snow around. they have't even opened the pipedragon up

i saw on their instagram, and i think they started trying to shape/cut the pipe today. i'll be up this weekend but heading over to Okemo on saturday with friends..so sunday, yeah i'll probably be around.

looks like a good time but im pretty sure im too old..lol. hopefully they dont close big ben for that. id like to session it!

side note, good to see gayda and crew out filming sunday! lets see some footage of that rodeo 5 already..

i was on my pow skis that day, not the best park skis lol

Looks like there's a competition on Big Ben on Saturday. Is it wishful thinking to hope they only close the left side? It's gonna be a great day for park laps, 40 and sunny. Pipe and mini-park all day.

TNF Open, Wallisch and Martini are gonna be around all weekend, doing autographs are lapping the parks. I wanted to go up to meet the guys but i figured their just normal people good at skiing so im not heading up this weekend and actually being social with friends. have fun up there whoever goes!

shoutout to andrew gayda. kid boosted a dub on the first jump at tnf ppos. unfortunately he got himself hurt and i had to drag him off, haha. it was still massive though, props to him.

damn. that jump didnt look big enough for that! i would say the second one was but not the first. i ended up at stratton sunday and had an awesome day there. love that they made the down street style rails for the comp taller than usual to get on.

the ppos open at stratton was a peice of shit. A bunch of my friends competed in it and it was a 2 jump line but stratton made the 2nd jump to close to the 1st. In practice people tried to hit the 1st and 2nd and were landing before the knuckle on the 2nd, it was retarded. So for the comp the 2nd jump was closed down, so they scored the 1st jump and the 2nd knuckle( EX. people were doing like nose butters and shit off the 2nd knuckle) which is retarded and then they had 3 rail features. Really was a bad idea to have this a stratton because they clearly don't know how to make a park compared to the days when they had the U.S OPEN.

i can understand the frustration, but the setup was legit. they had speed issues and not enough time to fix it. had they had the qualifying and practice instead of cancelling due to weather (rain, ice, etc..), it would have been fixed over night. I wish they would make that left lane with a jump at the bottom instead of the random weird bonk things. then it would be perfect.

they never made the us open park. It was snowpark technologies. But your opinion is still irrelevant cause bubba rich and the guys know what they are doing.

^ OK pal, ask the people who competed in the tnf open who traveled from far away. Ex, Colorado, Utah ect. I bet they were real happy competing in a slope that costs $100 dollars for entry plus flight, Hotel and Transportation with 1 fucking jump that was small as SHIT!! Fucking dumbass.

shhhh.. your ignorance is showing..

things happen at events. they had a ton of rain and sleet the nice before and made the best of a bad situation. i think its really cool stratton was able to get an event this year since they havent had a key event since losing the US Open. its good to see them start focusing on park even though they are a little late to the game. I think the changes they've made are great. I do miss the flow of middlebrook though. i wish they would put more medium size features on big ben's right lane and lose all the bonk crap at the bottom.

god someones taking the internet seriously...

i wanna agree with this kid because yeah stratton did not prepare for the competition at all, they made the jumps that sunday before and nobody hit them. You cannot expect much out of the park crew just because they've never had the greatest ideas and dont much about it. I was even amazed they were able to put the jumps together before the TNF ones.

i agree that the mountain really needed to step it up for this event. the conditions were really fast and guys sitll weren't getting enough speed for the second jump. the first jump was definitely a good size. overall i think it was just an inexperienced park crew. bubba definitely knows his stuff but they definitely would have put on a better even with more experienced heads working together.

not sure who was there sunday, but all i can say is wow, the woods were perfect. couple inches of fresh and all to myself. great day. good to see andrew back skiing after his crash. see you guys next sunday!

stratton is shooting for 4-8" on wednesday and another 4-8" on thursday. If that holds true, itll be nice to have the fat skis out next weekend!

This past sunday was not the greatest, felt like january conditions out there. hard pack, ice, and wind. you guys know, the usual for stratton.

Wow this completely slipped under my radar, I'm stoked. I may come up on Thursday if it's supposed to be that much

ill see ya there, wont hit the jumps probably. most likely ill be on tyro or just skiing switch under amex.

i have a major bone bruise in my right leg from landing on the table and falling onto my pole on the last jump..

Stratton always had so much potential to be one of the best parks in the east and never seemed to be able to put it together. A lot of the issues stemmed from not setting up many features for real riders and never figuring out a true trail for a park.

Here are the jumps from the 2009 US Open Course over on Sun Bowl- today these would hands down be the best jump line in the east, cut to perfection (4 in line)and really would give a strong park prescence to Stratton with a park like this. I remember some of the legit riders- Williams, Dale, Liam Downey filming on these too

Alot of the commentary on this 13/14 thread was that ppl just go to mt snow instead for the park and that should be an embarrassment to Stratton. Okemo killington and mt snow have superior parks now within southern VT and Stratton is really in the dark- no kids want to ride Stratton parks over mt snow. I went to Wachusett in MA a small park but with good flow over Stratton a few times this season because Stratton just wasn't worth it, I hope they figure it out but putting the park and rebuilding that USO style jumps as a park surely would be a HUGE gamechanger for them.

stratton has decided to no longer build a park on big ben. the park has returned to Sun Tanner!!! let's hope byrnside is next with the big boy park! those where the days. id love to see the four jump line on sun tanner again and the huge spine they use to do. hopefully they get their act together this year. so far its been pretty bad but weather hasnt helped.

Oh man this gets me pumped. I remember they had some monster clean jumps back in the day. Now they will finally have the room to put in all their fun rails again.

We should petition them to put the fucking bus back in...still to date my favorite terrain park feature ever.

If anyone is going to be skiing on Friday Jan. 30 up at Stratton took the day off from work and going to head up and shred solo if anyone wants to ride? PM me.
