Stratton 12/13

yea. sunday shooting star was "broke" yet again for the third weekend in a row for me. which diverted all traffic to URSA.

Id take a 2 person chair up the middle of big ben so you can watch the runs people take. So many good skiers hitting stratton lately. Saw a bunch of corked 7/9s on sunday and great rail skills going down. Christian (nordica Am) was rippin it up too.

a new lift is a massive undertaking. between towers, cables, motors and cars, its a lot of money. there are a lot of things that stratton has to spend money on first before thinking about that (new base lodge, gondola, lodging, infrastructure). not to mention upload capacity on a villager-style two person chair isnt that high, so it wouldn't really do much. the ropetow would be ideal IMO because you can just grab the rope; there really isnt any limit on how many people that can be on it (60 car lift that holds 4/lift can only get 120 people up a cycle, half the chairs are going up, half are going down, 4*30=120)

yea but the things you mentioned are not going to happen because of the winters we have been having. Worst part is, since a real estate company now owns stratton, the lodging would happen first unfortunately.. so we'd get more stupid rich novice skiers that clog up liftlines before any real improvements to the actual mountain. The gondola is long overdue to be replaced and it keeps getting voted down as a priority. Stratton year after year heads down hill as far as operations and keeps putting up condo after condo.

not gonna lie lodging is one of the most important things to maintain a healthy mountain. if you are a parent, you want to take your kids on a vacation somewhere they will enjoy, not some place where you have to stay in a sleazy motel. more lodging=more money, more money=money to be spent on mountain ops when the time comes. you have to admit operationally this is one of our best years, from parks to snowmaking to grooming.

also someone told me that intrawest did a little bit of moving around of money and stratton was first on the table to get funds. word on the street is that the gondola cars are going to be replaced, because those things have a life to them. i heard true 12 people: equipment on the outside, 4 people sit on each side, 4 stand in the middle. god i hope that happens, they've been cramming in barely 9 and advertising 12 for forever now.

I was ripping it up on the pow day.

Had the first hit on the lil' 10 foot cliff on the left part of Moondance, had the first hits on my two secret cliffs in a secret spot, first tracks on Upper Downeaster Woods, and hit a bunch of cliffs under the Shooting Star lift. Shooting Star wasn't running so we were just going through the line right under the lift and hitting a bunch of 5-15 ft cliffs.

Sure we didn't get a ton of snow, but you just need to know where to look to get some pow above the knees.

Very nice! The lift tower line under shooting star looked sketch at the bottom where it dumps out to the lift. Crazy to be hitting that. Woods were kinda weak as there wasnt enough snow pack under the recent snow. Fun day out on the wide boards anyways though.

See you all next sunday!

ill be there. storm total looking to be under a foot now but still freshies for sunday as all the president week jersey crowd leave! I just picked up the Lloyd jacket from last season so ill be rocking that.

i agree. woods were great, kidderbrook early on was awesome for some tree to tree carves and big ben was great. Wish they would cut the quarter to the barrel at the bottom better so you can bonk going over it instead of some wide thing that the quarter goes right up to.

i was there this weekend. the woods were so sick. great cover. i was in chicken alley, keyhole, and hit up the ravine once

ah word. have skied keyhole. we also found one skiers left of liftline thats fun. Will have to check out skier's left of world cup this upcoming sunday.

yeah dont get onto world cup via slalom glade though. go through either dancing bear or down steveks. from there the entrance is above the mogul course (not sure if its still there or groomed over). just find a way to duck into the woods, the tnrance is tight but it opens up. you can either go in from the cut through between drifter and world cup or i use a little path thats right above hydrant 23 (???) i think it is.

They gave up on supertrail and were given the other "half" of big ben. No supertrail anymore. They have left up the Vermont Open stuff though. That jump is nice and the rails below are great. Definitely check stratton out if you want to escape the crowded carinthia.

i shall be there as well. Maybe this weekend i'll make a trip through the park. The woods last sunday were too too good to lap the park. It was nice to break out the sickles one last time. See you all sunday!

I say we organize a barbeque the weekend after closing weekend. Drag a grill to the top of Big Ben or the pipe and have a private kicker session

unfortunately it isn't up to them. They lease the land for the winter and with bears coming out of hibernation, they have to close. Damn national forests. Also, at this point in the season, its all season pass holders anyways. no real revenue coming in.

big ben has been the same all season... and i just found out tomorrow is the last day for the sun bowl, which means the last day for a somewhat decent park at stratton this season... hopefully they put more stuff on suntanner.

So now there is one jump on the mountain? Big Ben is in PRIME condition right now, it's really too bad they closed it for the season. So now we have the pipe, one jump, and a decent amount of rails between Suntanner and Tyroliene?

welcome to an intrawest resort... I would love to see them push all the snow above the halfpipe for that stupid banked slalom into a jump and then along side the halfpipe put another jump and more rails and then more rails below the current ones on suntanner. get rid of that stupid pointless terribly setup pole jib. And they should just put Byrnside back to a park as well. I use to love the first jump on that trail

Going to be up at stratton this saturday for the pond skim and beers at grizzly's. Hopefully be lappin suntanner and tyro. See you all there.

Got my under 30 pass! Price didn't change after the "buy early sale," we just fell victim to their dumb marketing.

Any word on a Memorial Day rail jam? I remember Stratton usually charging an entrance fee, do they still do that? That's retarded.

Nevermind, just found it on their website. It's May 26th (the day after Mt. Snow's Peace Pipes), and it's $20. I will probably go to Mt Snow's since it's free and skip Stratton.

Just pay this year and keep your bib. Then just wear it the next year and they wont say shit.

Worked for me last year. Paid 2 years ago.
