its all musical preference. but seriously, if youre gonna buy a guitar, get a good one. i.e., american vs. squier, of gibson vs. epifone. youre just gonna get screwed if yuou get a bad guitar

no no no, strat covers both of those very well. it can also cover harder rock, too. The strat tone depends almost completely on what pickups u put in it. The les paul has a distinctive sound. It has a more beefy tone. I personally like the les paul more for rock, and the strat for blues. the strat is more twangy, which is good for blues, imo.

uhh whoever said les pauls are for softer rock slash uses one and so does zakk wylde and its a good blues guitar bb king uses one. i personally prefer the feel of a gibson to a fender anyday

FENDERS ARE SHIT. les pauls are so much better than any guitar, fuck preferance, any shit face can agree that les pauls sound amazing.

generally the single coil pick ups in the teles will give you a twangier sound which is why a lot of blues players (like clapton) play them. the humbuckers on the les pauls however will give you a 'beefier' sound and you can get a crunchier sound if you use the right combo. zakk wylde is one of the heaviest motherfuckers out there and uses a Les Paul so dont say that they can be used for heavy stuff. if you want a heavier humbucker sounds but dont like the weight of the Paul, go for the SG. its about a quarter of the weight and has basically the same sound. its lighter so it has a little less of the heavy sounds, but sick none the less.

for all of u who say that one or the other is shit, u r shit and quite a stupid ass. it is all about your personal preference. while one can be good for one person, it can suck for another. everybody has different playing styles, and every guitar sounds different for everybody that plays them. i personally, love my fender, but then again, i love my gibson for different things.
