Strange pain (lateral arch)

Okay now this is pretty peculiar pain in my foot. I got new boots this season and went up to killington a weekend ago. When I was up there the first day I skied and had some pretty bad pain in my feet in the areas of both feet right opposite from the arches in my foot (lateral arch I believe) the pain is strange due to the fact that when I'm constantly skiing on the hill, the pain is much less but whenever I'm standing for a long time or sitting on the chairlifts , the pain comes back. I have gotten full custom foot beds, which I figured would have solved the pain, and the podiatrist who made my foot beds, also thought this was the case. But alas the last 2 days the pain has still been there. Now is this just my feet getting used to the boots again? Because I had figured by the 4th day of the season that this pain would be gone. If it isint, does anyone have any other recommendations for me? Thanks again

Honestly man I had the exact same problem as you last season with my full tilt drop kicks that I just got that summer. The first days of the season the pain sucked ass. I started to wear my boots inside my house to just stretched them out and break them in. I thought I made the wrong decision with my boots, but after a while the pain went away and they felt great. After my boots broke in, the pain never came back, and my full tilts are comfy as hell. never had a problem with them since.

Hmm we'll this is at least comforting. I'm a little worried still though because I already got them heat molded, which is basically like breaking them in. But maybe I should just give it another few days too see. Will report back once I've had a few more days

What does the pain feel like? Is it a muscle stretch feeling, or doe it feel more like a pressure in the lateral arch. Do you have any hotspots in the shell such as te lateral side of the forefoot or th inner ankle?

If it's the first time you've ever had any kind of arch support in footwear, then it could be your foot getting used to the new sensation. It can cause little cramps etc, which do occur more when you are standing/sitting around, because your feet aren't 'active' if you like. They can get quite painful too. Hopefully, it should just go away after a little while.

If it doesn't, then it could be a slight pressure point on the sides of your foot, so you might need to have a little more space created there. See how you get on over the next couple of days when you're out, and if you're still having trouble, take them back to your boot fitter and ask them to have a look.

Have you worn your footbeds & boots before you went skiing? And do you wear arch support in your regular everyday shoes?

If you answer "no" to either or one of these questions, then chances are very high that you will get cramping in your feet when you stuff your foot into a boot with full arch support for the first time.

With any footbed, you want get used to it before you use it for its intended purpose. Either by wearing your boots around the house for 20 minutes at time or wearing your footbeds in everyday shoes (if the footbeds allow it).

Generally speaking, you can't go from no arch support to full arch support and have things work perfectly. Your feet, arches, tendons, muscles, ankles, knees, legs, etc all need to adjust to this new support and it's best to do it before you go skiing, not during.

yeah now that i think about it, it is more like a muscle stretching pain. kinda sore to the touch but i do not have any hot spots. just kind of a pain over the whole area of my arch there which is starting to make me believe it is just my arch getting used to being supported.

worn the boots quite a bit before skiing but just recently got the footbeds so havent worn the boots with footbeds a whole lot yet. So now it makes more sense to me about the cramping. Only concern i would have is that even before i had the footbeds in, i had this pain. Would that be because my foot was unsupported and putting to much stress on that area? And now that the footbed is in place, theyre breaking in to having arch support now?

Well if it feels like a stretching that would indicate that the arch is not bein properly surported and the lateral arch is still collapsing and stretching. The pressure is more what you would expect when beddin in footbeds not stretching. Were they actually made specifically for ski boots or did the guy just make a general orthotic?

What type of footbed are they? It could be you just need to get used to them but I tend to find that if made right they will be comfy from day one. It tends to be ones whic are not shape perfectly that give some issues. I would say take them back to who made them and explain the issues your having.

I had some full tilt dropkicks and got the worst cramps ever on the outside of my foot, same spot as you. Once i broke the boots in more, especially the liner, all pain went away. Just try breaking them in more.

Same exact boot actually so I'll give it a few days before getting concerned more, thanks
