Straight edge

claiming straightedge is fucking gay. if you want to be, more power to you, but every single person i've come across that is straightedge usually takes a "holier than thou" attitude.
 
this thread is so fucking dumb. im glad i havent read everything. i "claimed" straight edge for 3 or 4 yrs and i have have an edge tattoo. i recently decided it was not for me anymore and it was just fucking with my depression more then it was helping me. now i occationaly drink, no biggy. i dont consider myself a sell out. i just think i grew up. and no i do not regret my tattoo.
 
I'm straight edge.. but being straight edge doesn't mean you can't have fun. I don't think getting wasted would be fun anyhow, and I'm weird enough as it is.

But my philosophy is, Before you get into doing something, think about it and research it. I'm not just talking about drugs! Research and think about straight edge too, know the history and why you're doing it and stuff. Life is better that way. When you know your shizzle, I mean.
 
if ur gonna do drugs... do them cause u want to try them not cause others are... if ur gonna decide not to... do that for yourself as well, not cause others tell u not to... the whole straight edge "scene" thing is pretty lame tho... lol get real... if u dont drink, smoke pot, and have sex... ur kinda missin out, ya might think ur whole straight edge thing is some sort of reversed individuality among your peers... i call it conformity... smoke some trees puss bags...
 
The only thing illegal my friends and I used to do was speed in our cars. Now, after getting drunk one time, they do it like every weekend/ ever other weekend and are pathetic about it. My 6'3 friend plays a game who can take more shots then a 5'5 girl who is a year younger then him then i get drunken bullshit phone calls.

The only thing im not straight edge about is racing, and sex. Otherwhise, its just not worth the risk, cuz if i stay clean untill im 18, i get a dope ass car, and i dont think its worth risking. That and i want to actually earn something in my life, instead of my friend who made the same deal w/ his parents yet he drinks.

I see it as if i dont do it, then i dont know what im missing out on, there for i dont feel the need to.
 
well sounds like same thing happened to you has happended to me my cousin would rather go out and get high or drunk with his bubbys then go out skiing on a beautiful day , yeha it gets anouying .
 
there were some kids that always hung out at our parties and they were sxe never touched the stuff but we always invited them to come. Sounds like your friends are just deushbags for not inviting you. My advice get new friends.
 
i thought sxe was jsut not drinking or doing drugs, i dont look down upon anyone who does that stuff, i was just askuing what i should do about drinking
 
i am straightedge. I dont care what people think. They can make fun of me, call me names, but they cant call me stupid, or a drug addict.

my advice to you is just to keep doing what you think is right. Drinking is not bad at all, although i donot drink to get drunk. Do what you think is right. One of my friends, just at the hill on saturday... I was a bit further down the inrun, and looked up to see if anyone was going into the jump, and i saw him with a pipe in his mount trying to light it. He saw me looking, and stuffed it in his jacket. I just shook my head, and went no my way. He made a bad choice, and knows he did. I talked to him about it, and he said he would stop. In short, if some of your pals take the bad route, talk to them, and if they refuse to change, just keep walking. Dont let it phase you. One of my best friends now lives in a test 2 towns over because he got into drugs. Make the choice you can live with.
 
Same thing happened to me, kind of. Some of my friends started drinking and now they do it every weekend or more. I feel like there are better ways to spend my weekends. For the most part it doesn't bother, just when they choose drinking over something more productive, or when I'm not included in something because I don't drink. It kind of makes me want to start drinking, just to be included, which is obviously for the wrong reasons.

nope, im a sophmore in high school, i go to reggae shows, i love classic rock, some of my friends are in hardcore bands and they hardcore smoke pot, and i still havnt done anything yet
 
jea, when i was strait, i never tryed to change anyone. i was just saying no. i had shit to get thru and being high wasnt gonna help.
 
yeah i dont make fun of people and im not in a gang, and i dont think im better than people that actually do stuff, i just say no...but after everything said on this i think i might try it just to see how it is, but i wont be stupid, thanks dooods
 
i dont know one person that skis and started drinking and smoking and passes up skiing to go get high or wasted....

more like getting high and wasted THEN going skiing

only if its a shit day cus then it makes it fun

but getting high and going skiing is fun all around

ski resorts are a very good atmosphere for it
 
i completely respect your decisions, but... a TON of the succesful people in the world partied in high school, to me its whats fun to do(party) and i dont wanna miss out on it, cause its really only 2 years (jr and sr in high school) where you can have all that fun, and for some of us theres college also.
 
i think its cool that some people choose to be straight edge and i respect that even though it is not for me. What i don't like is that they'll kick the shit out of non-straight edge people.
 
I don't drink. It seems to really confuse people. Like I'll be at a party and someone will ask if I want a beer. I just say no thanks. Then they always ask why not. Then I say I don't drink. They say why not. I say, because I don't want to. They say why don't you want to. Its annoying having to justify decisions that don't effect other people.

yo dude i understand what you mean i didnt drink as my freshman and soph year in HS cause alcoholism ran in my family and blah blah shit but anyways its gonna happen. your gonna have your friends you chill with who all you do is get drunk with them and all they do is drink. and your gonna have your friends who you drink on ocassion with but also go do fun sober shit with, like ski. thats when you realize who your real friends are whether its your drinkin buds or your other friends, or maybe youll find a happy medium. its called highschool, social shitstorm haha dont worry dude it'll sort itself out

I'm straightedge man. Most of the friends i used to hang with started to drink a lot, so now i just chill with people who blaze a lot and like to chill out. I'm not saying don't hang out with your friends who drink, but i find it kinda hard to relate to those kids now... its wack how drugs can separate people like dat eh?
 
you shouldnt be some elitist straight edge bitch if you havent tried both sides. i hate people who decided to do things like that without atleast giving the opposite thing a chance. if you have seen both sides, and decided to go the straight edge route, more power to you.

so i guess im straight edge, but if you met me, you'd never know. i don't preach it, i don't care if people drink/smoke, hell, i don't even utter the words straight edge to describe myself.

i just drink, and not bindge drink or hardcore drink i just drink come beers casualy, 90% with my family. but most of my friends are just drinkers. i dont wouldnt mind if some of my straight edge friends went to drinking, as long as they werent alchoholics, but i would mind if they got into drugs.
 
I wouldnt consider myself straight edge, but I dont drink or smoke or anything, but thats not to say i wont really, I have great group of friends and we never drink, and still have a ton of fun, but I know oncce I am gone to college Ill drink, probly soon anyways. I dont go preaching to others about the way I feel about it either.

Yeah man. When i go to parties, I always drive. People will be like, "You want a drink?". Ill be like, no man, im good. They will ask why. I say, because i dont drink, plus, I have to drive home. They continue with you can have a few beers, no big deal. Some people just arent all there, you know?

I also love the people, like that puma12345 kid, who is extremely tough in his resposes because he claims to drink and do drugs. honestly, you are just slowly killing yourself. Good luck with that.

Ive been drunk, smoked, partied and being under the influence isnt for me.

Maybe one day you'll look back and realize all of your lost potential if you want to play that game! Ive seen how its fucked my friends up. First a little pot, then shrooms, cocaine, then x, then the addiction is their life. It controls them eventually. It saddens me to see it happen.

I'm not going tell other people how to live and would expect the same from others. Every weekend I hang out with my friends who are usualy drinking or smoking, they respect that I dont do it and I respect them. End of story.

Being straight edge means you let no vices control you.

To some this can mean no sex, booze, drugs (prescription or illegal, no meat, etc..

Others (including me) believe that it means enjoy your youth but dont let vices fuck you up and control you. Ian Mckaye, the Minor Threat singer who started the straight edge movement never envisioned it to be like this. Hell, he even drinks now.

Here is a history lesson for you dumb ass. There was a short lived punk band in the early 1980s called Minor Threat. No one in the band drank smoked or had sex and this was reflected in their lyrics. There were no other punk bands like this at the time. There singer was making flyers for a show using a ruler as a straight edge a friend started calling them straight edge for that and the name stuck. They later wrote the song called "Straight Edge" which pretty much sums there views.

Here are the lyrics:

That is when being "straight edge" was born. It spawned many other bands and followers. If you rad any old punk zines with Ian Mackaye or Minor Threat members they will say that they never envisioned straight edge to be what is today especially all the rules.

No, the x's. It is not a gang. It started when straight edge kids went to shows where alcohol was served. They put the x's on their wrist so no one would try to serve them.

Hope that clears up some confusion.
 
It's been recognized as a gang in places like Seattle because of the violent edgers in said cities. It isn't recognized nationally as a gang, just in specific cities. (unless this has recently changed, in which case, update me and lemme see some proof because I'm interested).
