Will an able minded computer user please post a link to the site, then everyone donate 1240 seconds of your life, and spread the word. Let me know what you think. cheers!

im no good aat posting links but i have seen this.
the facts are mostly for shock value, most of them arent explained in detail because it would decrease the affect on the viewer. but it is still really well put together and is still an interesting clip to see.

I totally agree with you. A few times towards the beginning the tone even annoyed me. But, i think the creators made good decisions overall with the script. Less intense statements and more in depth explanations would lose the audience's attention, and become less effective. Total props to film. I think everyone in the world should at least watch it, then take away from it whatever they're capable of.

thanks for the link!

im sure mosy of us know most of those statistics, but the video portrayed it in such simple, self-explanatory ways

thanks a lot for the vid, i think it was worth 20 min of my time

^^^^word. at first i was like ehh whatever, ive heard this a million times, and i ended up watching the entire thing. so ya bump, and sow this to as many people as you can!!!!

story of stuff is so good, they showed it in our geo class, it is a must see. All of the stuff they say is so true but so sad about our world...

I watched the entire thing.

my thoughts:

Immediately, this video reminded me of "Loose Change"

To me, regardless of the "facts" stated in it, it came off as an extremely pretentious as well as overtly anti-american attempt to scare the sheeple of America into agreeing with this woman's ideals.

Throughout the entire video, she referred to the American government as "they" and "their", making her sound extremely paranoid and fanatical.

To all of you watching this video, please, check the things she says. Look them up in books or on the internet to judge for yourself whether or not she is correct.

This video could be dangerous in the hands of stupid people.

idea about the story was good

however,

she makes persumptions through out her commentary which takes away from the crediility of her facts.

for example she states

"the metals PROBABLY came from South Africa, the petroleums for the plastics PROBABLY came from Iraq, the assembly PROBABLY happened in china."

who gives a shit if something probably happened. i want to know if it did happen, not if there was a chance of it happening.

on the whole, poorly done

in order to convey that heavy of a message to the masses on the internet, she has to keep it simple.

if you want to investigate further, take an economic geography class and you'll see that her principles are essentially all on point.

In regards to 'probably' ... her entire scenario about the radio was a realistic hypothetical example. It's not as if the materials don't actually come from those places in real life, because they do. But, seeing as though she was making her example universal to most all $4.99 radios, 'probably' is the best choice of wording. Hardly a nit-picking point worth dismissing the message over.

i agree with most of what she says. but i kind of disagree with the whole thing about how we constantly are brainwashed to buy new things everyday. yeah theres commercials and all showing this and that. but its human nature to be bored of things, so when we're bored we start looking for new or more updated things.

and the whole computer analogy is bullshit. the reason why we have to buy a new computer every few years is because information is evolving at an accelerating rate. files are getting bigger, people wanna watch videos, and some people are just impatient and want instant speed.

it isn't human nature to become bored of something and look for new updated things. this is mainly something consumer companies have attempted to made us think over the years. we all know that 100 years ago people (not all people of course but the majority of middle class people) were fine with one board game while now we think we need new computer games every month (one example).

the computer analogy isn't completely bullshit, it is again another simplified version of something more complicated. if the computer companies wanted to save our money they could easily make computers that allow for those parts to be replaced by newer ones. for example, you said "files are getting bigger" well then you could just put in a new hard drive (which is possible on some computers) but some computer companies either make this impossible, complicated or unknown.

yes, our planet is indeed fucked. imo the chances of reviving it completely are rather slim.i agree with most of the stuff she said, but she said some things that she didn't really know about, like how the only difference in new computers is "a little thingy in the corner", and i think the brain killing pillow slime might be bullshit "they use all these synthetic chemicals, and MOST of them PROBABLY hasnt even been tested yet."

she should have known a lot more after studying for 10 years

AH! I was about to post the link for you because I thought it was a new thread but I already posted it!

You're a moron. How the hell is refering to a group of people as "they", a paranoid and fanatical thing to do?

Where exactly do you think she is lying? All the facts presented are universally accepted as true, we just like to ignore these particular facts.

How is buying less shit you don't need "dangerous"?
