Story ideas

Hey guys. I'm a journalism major taking a feature writing class. I need to come up with some good story ideas for a the class, and then to eventually pitch to a magazine. One of my ideas was urban skiing and how the police deals with that in other cities, but it kind of got shot down. meh. Throw me some great ideas NS. Skiing/climbing/mountain/outdoor related would be great, but really it can be anything. I just need a fresh angle.

A young child's Parents are killed and he has to live with his uncle and aunt. Then he's a wizard, makes 2 friends and goes to school in a castle. something along those lines would be cool
