OP is one of the nicest people on this site and is always commenting nice stuff on my instagram and on my videos on NS. I would be be surprised if he has ever commented something negative. There are so many haters on this site that I always know there are gonna be a few dicks who go over the top but you gotta be able to find it assuming because like Shin-Bang said your probably doing something right.

I feel you dude. At one point every single post I made in NSG got downvoted and nearly all of my posts still do yet somehow I got motm last month. I've gotten a series of death threats from ns'ers, had all of my personal info posted in a thread, and had fake Mingg accounts made. Some people on here really fucking suck but you shouldn't let that stop you from posting your content. Even if it sucks. At least you'll be able to look back on it and see how far you've come! Like tallxt said earlier, do it for you not to show people up!

How people vote/rate you doesn't matter and you shouldn't let it get to ya! I see you as one of the nice members who isn't a total fuck up if that counts for anything.

So actually in my mind there is a much simpler solution which is right infront of us.

Re-design the comment system.

I've always had it in my plans to implement a new commenting system. You could switch back to 'classic' mode if you wanted - but the default display would both have up/down voting and threading. More like how Pinkbike has theirs.

This way, if the hate is deserved, it'll go to the top. SOmetimes something does suck, and I don't think we should take away the ability to say so. However, if its just a fucking troll, then let them get downvoted to a point where its not what you see first. As well, when a couple of people go on a tangent, it really breaks the flow of commenting.

Again, the idea here wouldn't be to take away the ability to have all commenting seen the way its always been, but for those who wish a more organized comment system (and for randoms who just pop by) to gain more out of it.

Hate is always going to be on the internet sadly. I mean if you look at comment threads on facebook, its populated with the same kind of garbage - even though people have their real names associated with it.

Culturally I'd like to see this site push in the direction of pushing out the trolls and ushering in the people that even when they don't like something - they give ruthless constructive criticism. If you think it is terrible, point out why so the person who made it can at least learn something.

I hate aimless trolling, especially when it isn't even funny. Trolling on the internet used to be much more of an intelligent game, but its gotten lost to the morons.

On the subject of improving comment sections, would it be possible to allow quoting people, and then organize mini threads kind of similar to YouTube (but without hiding the majority of them in a drop down thingy)? this would make discussion in comments a bit easier to follow especially on popular videos where @personimquoting is difficult to see

Yes, very possible, and its precisely what I'm suggesting!

That is what "threaded" comments are. When you reply to a comment, it starts a new comment tree under that one slightly shifted right. That way, you read each top comment, and then if there is a discussion under it, you follow that discussion until you move onto a new comment.

This is another really tricky issue. It doesn't matter if there is 90-95% positive comments on something, when there is 1-2 posts that just smack you right in the brain stem with rage, your emotions blank out anything good said.

Exactly the reason that we've been realizing that in the past, a few bad apples on this site have really turned the experience negative for most people. Henceforth why we're culling that behavior and the members who are only here to cause harm.
 
Getting hated on and getting judged is part of life. If people say they weren't bullied or discriminated in some way or another in their lifetime their lying. People have their opinions and many aren't afraid to share it. Just don't bitch about it (that'll just make it worse). Stay positive and don't take it personally.
 
I think I have definitely learned my lesson. I feel kind of dumb for making this thread in the first place because most of you actually are right, stuff like this will happen to everyone. On the other hand I'm glad I made this thread because I got a lot of feedback and constructive criticism as well!

Overall, I'm sorry for whining like I did and definitely won't be making another crappy thread like this, even though it was semi-benificial. Peace!

Yeah but just because it happens doesn't make it right. Murder "is a part of life" but not one that is socially acceptable or even close to right. Same with rape.

Sure, you need to thicken up - because lets face it life can fucking suck. But when we're in a place like this with rules, we can shoot for a higher level of treatment of each other.

Think of it like a bar - You're encouraged to party like a maniac... but if you cross the line into dick territory you get kicked the fuck out by a bunch of massive dudes that don't give a shit about your life story.

Mods are more like bouncers than anything else. Sure when you get bounced you're angry - but you were probably ruining the party for just about everyone else because you were wasted and an asshole.

Dude way to take it like a man! I thought this thread was great. This is a common issue we face, and having a take from someone that just signed up last year is fantastic.

We just started a massive crack down on the fucksticks of the site a few months ago. So far its made a few angry and many happy.
 
It's the internet. Everything is hyperbole. And then NS is like hyperbole for the internet.

"The worst edit I've ever seen" = "You could improve a few areas"

"OMG the best thing ever" = Passable

Don't take it to heart.
