STOP POSTING MOVIE SEGMENTS ON YOUTUBE

i like being able to watch some movie clips on youtube. I don't want to spemd all that money to get every movie out there. It's nice to see the movies that i don't want to buy. It's not like i won't buy a movie just because i can find it on youtube, i only buy like 1 movie per year so being able to watch videos on youtube is a nice bonus. Also its a good way for companies to get recongnized and allows people will know which company is probably going to come out with the best movie that year by looking at their past movies.

So 3-4 minutes of hardwork should be stolen.....Posting anything on youtube that is not yours is STEALING...Support the industry and the skiers you love and buy the fuckin movies...

exactly, you'd be amazed what goes into those 4 mins of work.. sometimes thats weeks of work. with no sleep.

yeah its called a teaser...you know those things movie companies drop before every film comes out...yeah i hear thats what those are for...

i like haVin the movie since i usually watch each of each years about once a week.. but this is silly, i mean i only get maybe one or 2.. and usually i only buy it if i happen to hqve extra mula.. movies cost a cbunch. it is such a rich man's sport.. and the class seperation is so bad in this country that rich skiers wont even respect poor barely getting by skiers/lame. so what if you watch a movie on you tube. thats the point of you tube. get over it.

Actually, buying the movie is way better than shitty youtube quality. But if you want to see a sick segment from an old movie that nobody can ever find/buy, then youtube is great in that aspect. But honestly, I'd hate to watch all my movies on youtube, just because the quality goes to shit. So, shut the fuck up already.

I may be the NOOB here, but do you have any clue? You think the crew at MSP is rolling in money? Maybe they get the most sponsorship dollars (maybe they don't) and maybe they sell the most vids, but they put that cash into making the movies, not their pockets.

What does it cost to shoot rails and park booters? Gas money, $5 wire cutters to clip tickets and $5 for another dv tape. What does it take to shoot big mountain stuff to get the footage some people (maybe not you) are dying to see each year? Maybe 10-30 grand per trip, weeks of sitting around with a reserved private heli, cringing that money is going out the window while you hope for that perfect day. Multiply that by several trips, and that sponsor money is gone and you've got guys trying to make ends meet just like everyone else... It takes a lot of cash to deliver what people expect of film companies these days. The higher the production value, the more spent.

I understand the advertising value of having clips play on YouTube, but you get too many guys posting too many clips, and soon enough 75% of a movie is on there and no one has to buy it. In the next few years this is going to have a major impact and start shutting ski film companies down, probably from the bottom up.

If all you want is standard terrain park shots and standard rail shots, no worries. But understand that you and your buying a L1P flick is what allows Berman to get funky crane shots, and MDP fans the trippy dolly movements, and Absinthe the cable shots. They aren't free.

The reason why he said MSP is not because they are a large film company, but because they're rumored assholes to other ski film companies. Rumors, of course.

Sorry, but we are not the ones who created Youtube or other various websites that do the same thing. Why dont you bitch at them instead?

and as long as kids on here are calling each other fags and telling them to stfu....The ski industry wont take this site seriously.....If everyone would stop hating on each other maybe the powers that be in this industry might take more imput from a site like this which would be good...a whole thread on why people SHOULD STEAL intelectual property(other peoples work) doesnt really help this cause...

u no, just a segment or to online, if there good... would just make someone want to by the movie more.

what do u mean the ski industry take this site seriously, WE ARE THE SKI INDUSTRY

haha that is the funniest thing i've heard. we are the ski industry.

please...you do realize every time you go to the mtn the number of average skiers to people on twins is about 300 to 1, atleast in alot of places in colorado, and even sometimes way way way more than that. if there are 90,000 skiers on NS we maybe account for a 10 percent margin of skiers around the world. yes some people only go a few times a year, but thats still counted for since they support it. there are so many more people that have say in the sport than we do.

Haha, what the fuck? I just got an email saying Matchstick Productions alerted Youtube and claimed that posting the trailer for the Seth Morrison Chronicles was copyright infringement... its a goddamn movie trailer that they dont even have on their site anymore.

maybe....but probably not.

And yeah duders, just buy the movies, they're sick! Definitely worth it. Don't complain about how much they are. You've got buddies, have them buy movies two. Everyone buys two or three movies every year and that will cover basically every movie released between you and your friends. A little blaze blaze a little watch watch and you've got yourself an unbeatable little combination right there.

I understand the point of this thread, its definately hard to make money in the film industry especially in the digi age when everything can be uploaded to the net. Music producers are basically in the same boat and get ripped off even harder because there is alot more downloading of that shit, just to put things into perspective.

Youtube is not going away. Nor are idiot people who post full length movies on the net for viewing purposes of stuff they dont own. Thats just the way it is.

If you are a movie producer etc. there are a few diff ways you can go about this to not get jacked:

A. You can constantly search youtube for your videos and immediately have them taken down. (apparently MSP is doing this) Youtube respects the owner of that property and will take it down.

B. You can create a youtube version of your film or some B footy for people to watch on the net and maybe people wont be so inclined to upload as much. It would be good for sponsors especially and you could make like hella advertisements in the youtube versions too. Since you cant really beat the system, you might as well use it to your advantage.

ehhhk, Ill think of more later, i need to get some work done...hehe

Honestly, I understand the trailers are under MSP's copyright agreements, but for the love of god, it was a movie trailer, promoting a movie. The movie, which was a great one, is over 7 years old and the trailer isn't even on the site anymore. They basically just shut down free advertisement. MSP is going down the shitter...

people like you are retarded. Many of us have great jobs, and still cant afford to spend 30 bucks on shit like that. I will continue to take whatever I can find for free online, music or movies of any kind. Free is Free, and as for the loss of sales, that economics for you.

Dude, MSP has been in the shitter for years, ever since ski movie 3. That was their last good ski movie. They are suck bitches. I hate them, taking down the second TBC and all that shit.

BTW, sometimes they sell the most, sometimes they don't. In 2003, the most bought movie was 1242, so VAS was going to award PBP by putting them on the cover of their catalogue, but MSP called them and said they wouldn't do business with VAS anymore unless they got on the cover again. MSP has the biggest budget, and has so much money to make better movies, but the constantly make the same movie every year and screw up good shots with slow motion and cheesy commentary. And then they go and make trailers using editing tutorials. I think everyone should upload every msp movie ever.

NEWSFLASH BUDDY.... Just like Jeff Lo said earlier in this thread, the newschoolers community is under 10% of all skiers, Did you ever think that maybe they are trying to cater to a little bigger slice of the pie than making a 60 min movie of just urban rails and booters??? Did you ever think maybe the athletes want to be shot in super slow mo??

i consider freeskiing a different industry than those other 300 ppl the way u ski the way u think on skis is completely different than those that have never skiid freestyle

They obviously are catering to a bigger market, but in doing so ditched their roots with the homegrown freestyle movement. They have the money and the editing and the riders, but as far as soul, they will lose every year to a plethora of other production companies.

What athlete wants to be shot in super slow mo. Im sure that's exactly what t hall was thinking when he was filming for ski movie three..."I'm gonna do this sick cork 7 over this bc booter, I hope they put it in 1/16 super slow mo so everyone can watch this trick for 5 minutes."

I didn't say anything about the newschool community. I didn't say anything about rails or booters. I like big mountain footage, but they just make their movies lame with their commentary. They have such a potential to create better movies with teir huge budget, but it never happens. They just try to make skiing look "EXTREME" and cater to the gapers and warren miller crowd. They've totally lost touch with the real skiers and what they used to be with their old movies.

umm, ever heard of public computers at librarys and schools? also a lot of families have a computer, but that doesn't mean the NSer has the money to spend of videos.

Bottom line any video that a ski company releases they have the rights to. You dont. They pay to lisence the music. The shoot the video. They edit it. FOR YOU TO WATCH. Not Distribute. companies pay for distribution. To get it out to you guys. You can see all and most of the teasers on sites.

As far as MSP, they're not bank rolling in anyway. While they have alot of money from sponsors it doesnt mean they're rich. You ever wonder why there film is such high quality? it costs alot. You can sit and bitch about how much you dont like them. What ever, they still put out a good production, some of their shots are unreal. They still care about the industry, they work hard to do that year in and year out. Yes they have more man power, but they worked hard for YEARS to get there. If you dont like their movie, dont buy it. Dont bitch.

It costs so much to make a 3 minute section. Production, Film, Filmer needs to be paid, film transfer, logging time, editing time, editors money, producers money, the camera, the tripod, the trip to get to the filming destinations, dvd production, graphics, photography...its so expensive. And you arent helping anyone by illegally posting movie segments. while it may be entertaining to you. It is illegal. So please quit doing it, watch the film companies websites for updates, and watch for stuff on NS. And support an industry that supports YOU!

Ok I haven't read all the posts but I don't think posting (small) movie segments on Youtube will in any harm the skiing industry. I mean, the video quality on Youtube is so shitty that I don't think people will keep themselves from buying a full-length DVD with dope image and sound quality.

Posting small segments on Youtube just gets more exposure to the sport. The Average Joe browsing Youtube and finding an epic segment (like Eric Pollard's self-edit) will be so stoked that he will gain some respect for our sport and maybe try it and adopt it. Isn't that good for skiing industry? Just check out the massive amount of skateboard and snowboard seggies on Youtube.. does that make any harm to their industry? Don't think so. The ski film business will get more exposure, consequally more money, and it will make even better movies.

For sure, like everybody on this site, I don't want skiing to become the next Xtreme sport displayed on boxes of Frosted Flakes and Mountain Dew bottles due to excessive media marketing and stuff.

I just want the world to know our sport more, so we, skiers, can benefit from it.

Now you do have a semi-decent point here. There is no doubt that exposure will be gained from having these clips on youtube...Nobody seems to be refuting that.

But on the other hand...Pollard made that edit and has the right to put his own shit on youtube. The issue with posting professional ski movies on youtube is that you do not have permission to do so. If MSP, TGR, Level1, Plehouse, or whoever wants clips of their movies on youtube they would probably promote it on their site... upload it to youtube and use it to generate hype for new videos. They have every right to do so...you do not end of story.

A lot of work goes into these videos, and putting them on youtube is pretty disrespectful towards everybody that takes the time/effort/money into making them every year. As others have pointed out there is an extremely low profit margin for making movies in the ski industry...not a whole lot of money in it to begin with, and even less $$$ will be going into the industry if people are just going to watch it on the internet....And if you're just going to argue and say that "it's only 3-4min" thats bullshit....if you want to watch a short preview check out the trailer or email the companies and tell them they should start uploading their shit to youtube...dont just take it into your own hands.

Someone else put it extremely well....

Support those who support you...these movies are made for everbody who loves skiing to watch and enjoy.

Yeah, you got a point, in my opinion, companies like strong based companies like MSP and such should do that (post seggies of their (old) movies on the web). A good example of this is what Level 1 did with freeskier.tv. (the movies Balance posted in flash format).

maybe i dont support the company and i just like the skiier because they throw down and dont wanna waist 28 fucking dollars on a shitty movie when i know that skiiers seggy is the shit... fuck that, fuck you, fuck the police.

well then don't support that company...if you don't want to buy their movie so just watch it once at a friend's house to confirm the fact that you don't want to support them...it shouldn't end up on the internet....fuck that and fuck the police.

hey man thats a cute story.

really, its inspiring. but seriously you need to get a grip on reality and realise people dont give a fuck. ya kids save face on ns and "tourch the evil dl stealers villages" when most probably do it to.

haha, i was about to agree with the guy who made the thread. but after reading this, i disagree with the maker of the thread

Its good to have previews up on  youtube cause then we know if the movie is gould and if we should buy it.

so you would never watch a bootleg version of a hollywood movie right? you are completely right but the thing is that people dont care. if they can watch a movie for free rather than paying people are gonna do it. i mean i would rather save my money for things like comp entry fees or eating. i guess that makes me an ass hole for not supporting the industry.

what about extras from the DVD? thats just stuff they throw in to get you to buy the actual DVD.

i'm about to post pep's self edit based on this logic..

pollard's self-edit used all of his footy from push, or technically pull.

but it seemed OK.

pep's edit uses all his shots from ski porn (and alot that did not "make the cut").

i think it technically is as much pep's as PBP's.

i think its really sick and no one has seen it so i'm going to post it.
