Stop me from cutting a swallowtail in my skis

Sooooo I have a dumb idea.

I have these K2 Pinnacle 95 PNC's. They were a gift from the K2 distributor. K2 made them to give away to best ski sales people or something like that. But I never mounted mine because they are too short for me.

So now I thought I could have some fun with them but cutting down the tail, make them into a sort of Pescado / Mirus Cor / Forma type of ski? I just checked the tails and rocker profile, I was thinking cutting down around 10cm and cut a round V shape in the middle for the looks.. This way I will not hit the Ti laminate that is in there.. I know the risk and I would probably cut a line over the entire width to fill with with epoxy to seal everything off etc.. So how dumb of an idea is this? The flex patern in the tails will be off? So it might not ski that nice anymore? Or because of it only being the very end of the tails the impact on performance is low?

Thoughts?

Do it. With the rocker profile you'll only notice anything in pow and tbh a lot swallow tails out there like the minus Cor is just asthetic. Line Sakana and Pescado are functional because the effective egde extends to the swallow tail (great skis). So yeah do it, I've known a few people who've done this with mixed results depending on engineering prowess and the ski shape

Pics? Tips?

I have the mirus cor and the tail "notch" doesn't affect performance at all. It DOES however get a fair amount of comments, which seems to be what you are going for, so freakin' send er' bud! Make sure you post pics

go for it. you don't need that part of the ski anyways. I think swallow tails look cool.

another good idea is to make a cutout that throws up extra rooster tails. I've seen this done but don't remember what edit

just cut a big fat hole in one or both tails and the snow will get forced through there for the most epic rooster tail

what does a swallow tail do on a firm snow ski anyway? i'm only familiar with putting them on pow skis so the tails sink a tiny bit and help keep your tips up

It’s really just for looks

Sick. How do the insides of the cuts look and did you add any protection like epoxy?

I think if you keep the cut within the plastic tip spacer you are pretty much good to go without any additional protection. However, if I did something like that, I'd probably still at least apply epoxy.

Looks just like the inside of the ski, and haven't epoxied yet. Probably worth doing but this ski is kinda beat to hell

I'm gonna take a hole saw to a pair of old volkls that I'm mounting an old pair of dynafits on. Then I'll take snips/an angle grinder and cut the rest out.
