Stop Enjoying my Public Attractions

Palisades has exploded with gapers. Who the fuck are all these people heading to the mountain? Wanna cruise up for an afternoon after a night out? eat a dick parking is full. Rolling up early to slash some fresh laps? Fuck you KT has an 2 hour line. Even if they had enough parking it wouldn't matter, the whole lot is full of double parked sprinters just so dudes can ride their 85mm touring setup on piste for a gram post. Never have I seen so many dedicated goons on the mountain. Decked out in alteryx and rental soul 7s for first chair at 8:00 AM to ski the "easiest way down". Blows my mind.

Americans are already well known as clinically retarded by most non Americans. Tiktoks are just the final stage of lobotomizing us

All social media is a psyop to fracture the populace along culture war lines and end representative democracy. Peter Theil and the dark enlightenment

Why do you choose to ski there then? I ski at small places the vibe is way better, I park right next to the lodge, it’s cheap, lodge food is even good and actually affordable. I was getting fresh tracks every run all day a few weeks ago. Haven’t seen a lift line yet this season. Honestly what blows my mind is that people continue to choose to ski at overcrowded mega resorts, I get that the skiing is “better” but is it really when you have to deal with all the associated bullishit?

didnt ski the weekend cuz i didnt have it in me to deal with associated bullshit.

Definitely blame social media (as I do everything) but a big factor is COVID aftermath.

COVID, led to working from home which gave a lot of people freedom to move away from the cities and into the mountains/spacious areas.

this, covid fast forwarded the industry 5-10 years with unprecedented growth

I can't imagine people can feel a 3.5% growth like op is dragging about

Do you mean Squaw Valley in Tahoe?

If so, the whole Bay Area California goes there! They are all the rich ones too, so what do you expect!

There are many other places to ski there. Try going to one of them on weekdays.

I would never wait in a two-hour line, but I think you got yourself into it.

You got another source?

yeah you need to look at the 18-19 vs 20-21 season.

anyway, claiming that skiing hasn't exploded in the last 3 years is just ignorant, it was already getting more popular and covid was a catalyst.

Also, skier visits isn't the only measure, back country skiing saw a huge boom as well, overall revenue has certainly grown more than 3.5%

True. The Japanese tried it after WWII by introducing us to anime. I don’t think I’ve ever met someone who watches anime like a normal person, they are all obsessed and fat and retarded. Tik tok was the finishing blow, we’re fucked

I've considered it hard. Feels like leaving your big titty wife of 20 years for her busted big friend. spent my whole life at squallywood, Im not leaving everyone else has to god dammit.

Still not following. It's barely groundbreaking compared to 10yrs ago, and now we have more infrastructure. So was 2010-2011 the worst season ever? I'm not sold on your anecdotes. There seems to be an uptrend with natural ebbs and flows. 2019-20 was low because of closings.

Yeah but people are complaining about resort volume.

You realize we are talking about people volume, not dollars? Op is complaining about quantity of humans. Of course revenue increased lol. We all feel that pain

Idk why were even arguing I feel like we agree, just felt like you were downplaying the growth of skiing/revenue.

I wouldn't be mad if that number decreased, but I doubt it'll be significant for awhile

Yeah except the big titty wife is fucking 10 other dudes who drive sprinter vans

I mean it some resorts grew more than others but I feel like it grew way more than 3.5%. My home resort has broken even for a few years then 2020-2021 season they make 4 mil. I think is a little more than 3.5%

Read none of this but its Vail’s fault lol.

they made the mega passes forcing Ikon to be born. Then Epicliftlines became a thing. So people switched passes and now they have gone from Northstar to Palisades.

Rob Katz strikes again!

I was just asking for some data on your statement that skiing "fast forwarded 5-10 years with unprecedented growth" and I'm saying that it's really not that big of a jump from previous years based on what I can find.

The part that data leaves out is how consolidated that volume is. I'm sure we have less resorts now. Then you got multiresort passes driving traffic to specific locations. Employees probably feel it too as they're understaffed.

Meh. Op is a noob who skis weekends.

utah has had a huge explosion since 2018/19, skier days were ~4-4.5m from 2009 - 2018, 18/19 it jumped to 5.1m (because of the ikon pass) and 21/22 was 5.3m

doing some quick google searching, colorado went from 7.1m skier days in 2017/2018 but jumped to 13.8 in 2018/2019 and was 14m+ in 21/22. very similar trends, likely connected to epic and ikon pass in CO.

so overall, my experience is far different than the average, but i think it's fair to say mega passes + covid was the catalyst.

I still think the "industry" fast forwarded 10 years, not just because of covid, tons of other things happened too, but 2018 to 2021 was some pretty crazy growth.

side note, colorado's increase is massive, but utah's was so significant because the growth was concentrated to SLC and the cottonwoods.

That's a pretty dumb way to tell us you suck at skiing and only go out on weekends under 25 times a season.

#stopskiing you are part of the problem

Your a fuckin retard homie. Glad make a wish reached out for a skiventure and you got to live out your dreams.

Some of you guys just gotta see the traffic in truckee for yourself. It’s pretty fucking ridiculous to see traffic at a dead stop going through literal residential streets on a weekly basis. Not sure what the solution is but these crowds are definitely not sustainable.

It’s seemingly plateaued in terms of traffic tho. Pre covid ADT through the Eisenhower tunnel on I-70 vs last year are damn near identical in terms of volume. Just something I found interesting

i mean i70 from denver accesses alot of skiing, but I wouldnt say that specific corridor is tied to more than 50% of skier days every year. people come from the other side, fly into other airports, drive from cali. plus nobody stays in denver and drives to the resorts as tourists and its not the only place in CO that's popular to go skiing.

SLC problems are not the same as colorado, i70 was fucked 10 years ago lol
