STOP CALLING SIMON DUMONT A HALFPIPE SKIER

i don't know what he meant by that, isn't that what simon is? just because he does a few kicker comps every once in a while doesn't mean he can no longer be considered a halfpipe skier...no hate on simon, but he IS a halfpipe skier as far as i'm concerned.

well maybe if i saw some footage of him rippin it in the backcountry...but from what i've seen he's just a park rat, mostly halfpipe.

you didn't watch the latest installment of the JO videoblog did you, because there's a part where dumont is bitching about how he wants street cred. not disagreeing with you on the park rat comment though.

no i watched the whole thing, i know what you meant. he's not going to get any more cred though unless he starts pushing some powder.

HEY SIMON MAYBE IF YOU STARTED HITTING URBAN AGAIN AND STARTED DOING SOME MORE BC SHIT YOU WOULDN'T BE CALLED A HALFPIPE SKIER.

i swear i think its so gay when super pros don't hit urban because i think if you are a super pro you should be able to do it all not just hit jumps and pipe. There are so many guys out there who should be way bigger because they slay everything real hard rather than just being able to win pipe comps.

That is true

But i think Id have to see some more backcountry and big mountian to start judging him as an all around skier

It's really the only time he ever does anything that really stands out. I think that's just sorta his thing.

while we're calling simon out. Simon, 7 eden ridge in your segment next year. the original urban booter.

do you little ones not remember how much urban have been in his past segments. As well as backcountry booters? He's done it all except big mountain riding.

hell yeah, he just needs to take his new shit out on the same stuff he used to do. you can't just quit a whole aspect of skiing if you are to be claimed as one of the best!

his pipe run is so innovative but in big air or joss all he does is misty tens/sevens no grab cork 3 and dub fronts so its he is by far a pipe skier

i dunno why hes hated so much. hes not my favorite skier either but he can ski more than pipe for sure.. i thought that video was funny.. his joss edit was sick.. be good to see him hit some rails or pow more but i guess that will happen.. deserves more credit from NS than he gets.. admittedly he has a lot of fans but generally of the clueless type.. he deserves a bit more credit from NS i think..

ok let´s see, he used to have some really nice BC parts, in videos like TEn and push (correct me if i am wrong) but i don´t see anything wrong with riding only pipe, that´s why is called freestyle= that means u can do whatever you want... he´s not my fav skier, but i think he is pretty good..

i like better complete skiers, like pep that can ride park, pow, rails, bc booters tanner can also..

anyways... it´s all about the fun...

" and heres simon dumont, a half pipe skiier. what the fuck is he doing here? dosent he know this is a big air comp?

LOL. but fo real, simon can ski anything. i just love how paranoid he was in that whole video.

i heard he and his buddies used to drive around their town and, simon would start talking shit to somebody and then have his bros beat their ass for no reason

Simon is a tool because he is literally pleading for acceptance.

That was pitiful and desperate. If you want to be respected as a complete skier, stop inviting the media circus to film you break X-treme records. Come on...an interview with his fucking agent in Reasons? That was gross.

Stop accepting every endorsement imaginable and making competition your sole drive, and you just might catch some love from people who actually give a fuck about skiing.

Simon is talented as shit. He's like a fucking ninja. He's not a pipe skier...he's a male model, marketing device, and a walking billboard who coincidentally performs super duper acrobatic maneuvers on skis.

Simon traded his "street cred" for $. Simon Dumont is the 50 cent of skiing.

haha that video really made him look like the annoying little bitch kid who always shows up at the wrong time and no one likes him. we all have friends like that

All the little fucking 15 year olds in this thread don't have a clue what they are talking about. First of all just because Simon competes a lot and shit doesn't mean he doesn't love skiing. I bet breaking that record was fun for him because it's fun to overcome challenges like that. I think competing is fun and thats why I do it, so why couldn't he enjoy it. So don't immediately count him out because of those things just because he doesn't fit into your mold of a freestyle skier. It's called freestyle, let him do what he wants. Also, so what if he tries to make money!?! You'll find that everybody else is the same way cause guess what, it's nice not to be poor. Maybe when you're 15 and have a naive view of the world its "selling out", put later you learn it's life. Finally, people need to think for themselves on this site. Enough of the stupid pack mentality that causes everyone to hate msp, then tanner, then simon. Besides the majority of you have never even met him so how could you possibly hate him?

i'm sure theres some time in between competing and training where he can hit urban and some powpow, if he starts hitting urban especially i will respect him again. just like colby, you should start hitting rails again buddy!

Thats part of what I'm saying, it's freestyle dude. There's no fucking FIS rule that states "to be a freestyle skier, one must slide no fewer than three rails per ski area visit". Maybe he just isn't feeling rails and wants to do what he likes so that he can enjoy skiing. And even though everyone likes pow, he can do that his whole life, the timeframe to be among the best park riders isn't very long though. Oh and, personally, I don't wanna see simon riding big mountain in movies, leave that to the experts. I want to see him kicking ass of jumps and in the pipe.

First, drop the condescending "mature" posture. Here you are, posting on NS like the rest of us brainwashed sheep.

Did you even read any posts in this thread?

No one is questioning whether or not Simon loves skiing...I don't think anyone could achieve his level of success without a true passion and love.

That being said, Simon has made it a priority to celebritize skiing. Simon has a lucrative career that was born out of his ability to ski. Call it what you want, but the bottom line is, very few skiers put forth the same degree of effort to brand themselves. The kid was on fucking Ellen..for breaking a guiness record. He is a mogul. He is an entrepreneur. That's great. Get that money.

I'm not some idealistic, hippie, Pollard blowing dude who will preach about the purity of skiing blah blah blah. But come the fuck on bro...Dumont=Sheckler. And by that, I mean he is an amazing athlete who has used his talent to cash in and create a career that undoubtedly transcends (atleast aims to) skiing. There's no judgement attached on my part, that's just reality. Because of that, he'll never get the same kind of love that the NS favorites get...it's a lot harder to relate to Simon.

This all started because Dumont pleaded (sort of jokingly, but definitely obnoxiously) to be known as more than a halfpipe skier. Done. I see him as a comp. skier, a businessman, and peripherally, as a dude who potentially likes to look at himself in the mirror a lot. I don't give a fuck about Simon Dumont..but apparently he cares quite a bit about how other people perceive him.

And that, is why he's catching hate.

Simon did in a way sell out. He does emphasise taking part larger events

such as comps. And he seems to take public relations more serious then

alot of other professional skiiers. Understandably you won't become very popular in the skiing community when you do as such. But beeing the icon

that he is, he will exponate skiing to the general public. And by doing

that you will produce more funds for ski resorts, sell more skigear and

recruit more skiiers to the sport.

If the sport grows the skiing scene will become better. More kids will get sponsored and more people might be able to make a living out of skiing.

I'd like to see that happen. So simon might just do us all a favor.

We'll probably see more skiiers doing as simon in the future.
