Stomping 10ft+ to (virtually) flat in the backcountry

Im wondering if there's any tricks to this? When the landing is at a good angle I have no issues but when it's virtually flat it's hard not to go backseat because of the impact.. Any tips or tricks?

just extend your legs, try to land back on your tails a little and flex your skis forward to distibute the impact and backslap if it is necisarry

If you lean back at all you'll backslap if you're hucking to flat.

Try to hold a position as if you're seated (without a chair) and have someone throw you a medicine ball. See if you can catch it without falling on your ass.

Then try again with your weight slightly forward. Easy.

Heavy head, stomp like a thug, ride out. If you try to take the impact solely in your quads (weight back) you'll backslap every time.

Take more speed Into it. Dropping strait down is a lot harder than dropping when you're moving

Ever kneed yourself in the face? It hurts like a bitch and its pretty easy to do if you try to stomp to flat with your weight as forward as normal. Hit the cliff with as much speed as you can without going too big and blowing up, keep forward in the air as you normally would but get slightly backseat and flair your tails down right as you're about to land, then roll forward onto your feet after letting the tails take some of the impact. That way you can avoid backslapping but also not blow out a knee or knee yourself in the face by stomping centered and taking all the impact in your legs and upper body.

The majority of ACL injuries to skiers are caused by what's known as "phantom foot" or, in plainer terms, a backwards twisting fall. Basically backslapping and catching an edge at the same time.

To put your tails down first, bearing in mind that we're landing on a pretty much flat surface, means you would have to either flex your boots (which you can't as there's nothing to flex them against) or straighten your legs and draw your thighs up. This will isolate the load onto your quads and result in some sweet backslap action and a higher chance of popping your ACL. If you fall forwards you have virtually no chance of doing an ACL.

Im watching the office as we speak. But the best advice you're going to get is to "roll" and let your tails absorb the impact

What? I don't think you fully understand what I'm saying, think about how you land any cliff, If you're not extending a little right before landing you're doing it wrong, either you're not compact enough in the air or too compact when you're landing. I never said land backseat and back- slap... can you not drop your tails without fully extending your legs? You should only be flaring your tails a little. If you do what I'm saying correctly you still take the majority of the impact with your legs unextended and in a normal forward landing position; it actually reduces the chances of blowing up and taking a backwards fall because you reduce some of the impact on your legs. Watch any pro land a cliff, unless the landing's very steep they all do what I'm talking about. You have to be more on your game to do it successfully on a flat landing but if you're doing it right and with enough speed there's not much risk of backslapping.
