Still skiing

yep but its kind of called for. As they dont have any dynamite they can't do any avy control so the only way to stop anybody getting hurt is to pull passes, yes this would seem uncalled for but all it takes is one punter who has a vague notion of where is good to ski to set one off, like this today and get fucked up.

it sucks that they were having to pull passes of people who probably knew what was safely skiable out that way. Reading comments, seems it was a fairly capable boarder who set it of and then his friend dropped in the gully next to it and did the same. so clearly the danger was there to have it closed, hopefully it will stabilise to be ridable soon.
 
Yeah but here in Scotland they don't own the mountain, legally we can go we're we want.
 
This is true but on the other hand im sure there will be some small print in the ticketing agreement that if you are deemed to be posing a danger to other users they have the right to take your pass.
 
That's what I assumed, but apparently some guy checked when he bought his ticket and there was nothing about it on the t&cs. I'm
 
I've been meaning to take a look though. And anyway what stops you from saying you walked up?
 
Sunshine Village in Banff is generally open well into may, but this year they broke their all time record for snow fall and the deepest the pack was like 10 feet(pretty shocking considering how shitty this season was everywhere else) but with the snow they have now it wont surprise me if they are open well into June!
 
finished my last day at sunshine. Open until next Monday but I'm going to Vernon. Had a solid last day though.
 
yeah. They only stay open as long as they are making money, and not enough people go in may to stay open very long. They will probably open on canada day though.
 
not really seeing as they announce the closing date at the start of the season and they already have one of the longest seasons In Canada and the ticket prices are on par with most other resorts.
 
Oh I misread this, I thought you meant if enough people dont come up some days they'll close it for that day
 
No man. Sunshines in a national park so they don't really have much of a say on that front, no matter how much snow is left. I'm assuming that sunshine probably has snow year round up on divide somewhere.
 
you should have said 'resort'. mountains never close. I skied a 2k vert couloir yesterday. sunday I'm looking to ski at least double that off a single line. need a boat to cross to the base though.

Yup thats why you have to get out your touring skis, Still tons of great stuff to hit up if you leave early enough. Hopefully going to be hitting up some stuff at Moraine lake in Lake louise next few weeks lots of fat descents there.
 
This. They lease the land through Parks Canada and have no option to extend no matter what the base is. The talk about opening on Canada Day last year was just a publicity stunt, they wouldn't have been allowed to even if they were willing.

Yes. Today's front page shot, taken last week in Chamonix. Maybe a couple of weeks of touring left, I need to get back up there...
 
Our mountain has enough snow to still be open, Hell it snowed on our mountain bout 10cm like two days ago, it snowed in town too. There just too fuckin cheap.
 
Crystal Mt! Plus the added bonus of massive goggle tan this past weekend made it an awesome day. They should be open next week, then after that its up to them to decide if its worth stayin open.
 
Well was talking tomy dad about it today I guess they did open for Canada day once back around 1990 something haha. Parks were probably a little easier on them back then. Lake Louise has extended there seasons the last 2 years as well but only for 1 week after.
