Stiff skis

k so i weight like 120. and ive used floppy noodly skis (line invaders, salomon and others)

and i find myself not getting enough speed for jumps.

i just ordered 4frnt MSP's these skis being really stiff is this going to help me with my speed?

stiffness won't really help with speed - length will though, also the base of the skis can make a difference

hell, all you need is a base that isnt completly butchered and a good wax to go faster, stiffness really dosent have anything to do with speed. (controll, but not speed)

Yeah the base is what really makes the difference , rounder wide skis will not edge as well therefore making your turns slower. but like Head skis are good for going fast my Head Mojos could move. The pipe cleaners are built on a racing base so they would be good for getting speed to. Ar6s are stiff so good for carving off the jump. I have only ridden them once so i can't tell you how good they are for speed.

length and the amount of flex that your ski has will defnitely impact your level of comfurt on your way up to the jump... confidence especially ... i would focus more on the amount of flex than the length, find your ideal length based on your height and then be looking for your flex. say for example, im 6 and a quarter inches. i like the silencer, 179 or 181 or whatever it is. for its length. its stiff as fuck and i could probably use it as a race type ski because its flex level is really low. not a lot of give in the ski.... not noodlie so i use it for more hardpack faaast conditions. msp is a really good ski and you'll prolly love it in the park due to its characteristics and specialization in that area as well as the sidecut in the 07/8 model (which shouldnt be overlooked) will put a little bit more leverage over the edge than other skis. armada is doing it too and they have been for some time now, as well, with there edges... but yeah, say you're heading at a jump at 50 mph, FAST ( i dont know WHY) you're gonna be OBVIOUSLY more comfortable on a ski resembling the MSP based on its stability and edge construction than the line invader just due to the flex of the ski and the chatter against the snow that would scare the shit outta me. but after a while regardless you're gonna know that you're ski isn't gonna come off your foot due to DIN and it may be more comforting when you land... so i dont know, either or... i flexed the invader vs. the msp and i'd take the MSP anyday based on construction, sidewall design and what they're made of....

this may sound strange at first but hear me out... the problem could be your boots

if you dont have a decent orthotic, your instep can push your skis on a slight angle digging both inside edges into the snow. if you dont have one this could be your problem. shot in the dark but a flat base on snow slides much quicker.

however, contrary to others i think a stiffer ski definatly goes a lil quicker, try waxing more often.

but then again, hate to be an ass an point out that its rarely the ski that slows the skier down.

hope this helps

i just use these....

i rode the ar6's all last season, and compared to the ar5 they were stiff. but they rly wernt that stiff, or buttery, just the perfict mix

powers through crud

holds an edge better when carving

less likely to wash out if you land a bit back on the tails or on the noses if youre riding switch

disadvantages... if you get a size bigger than you should have, they will be pretty hard to get a good carve or go through bumps because you wont have enough weight on them

This! When you don't weigh much, wax is more important. Figure the average weight is about 160 -170 I'm guessing. If the park builders weigh 160-170 and they are dialing in the speed, then it will always be tougher for someone who weighs 120 to get enough speed.

hey, i skied on msp's all last year and loved them they are an awesome ski!

they are pretty stiff, and while i hear what people are sayin about that not making a difference they definitely did feel "fast" and super stable - i spose they'll just help you feel more solid/comfortable when you're going at high speeds rather than flapping around loads

For the record Height has little to do with sizing a ski. It's more about your weight, riding ability, and what you are using the ski for(park/all mountain/pow...etc) As far as stiffness and speed they have nothing in common.

When you are talking length of skis and speed. you will not feel a huge difference in a few centimeters. if your mobbing on a pair of old school 210cm race skis then maybe, but not on a pair of park skis.

Stiffness and stability and edge hold at higher speeds are more closely related. Boots also have nothing to do with your speed lol. Don't listen to that. Although if you ride on Full Tilts you will defiantly get more chicks.

If you are having issue with speed my suggestion to you would be wax your skis. Also make sure that steezy tall tee is not hanging to far out of your open jacket. That will cause some wind resistance.

the all black carbon bases are the fastest bases...(make sure there's still structure in your base and that it's flat, not hollow -> this reduces ski suction...)Wax regularly and fill up all scratches...make sure there's no rust on your edges !(also when you drop in dont set an edge, edges have more friction, so put your ski flat down on its base until it starts shattering around, then set an edge to stay in controll ...)
if this still doesn't work, either drop in higher or tuck and pop more...
