Stiff or soft?

I need some hep. Im deciding wheather to buy line invaders or 4frnt tnk's. The only problem is that the TNKS are known for there stiffness where as Invaders are know for there softness. I have only owned i pair of skis so i dont have experience with different skis and stiffness. My skis right now are 143 line chronic minis, and there getting really small really fast im 5'2" 110lbs and grpwing really fast( puberty and im gaining weight because i work out alot). Anyways is there any way of telling wheather i would preffer stiff or soft skis?

im, not sure if chronics are considered stiff if they are can someone tell me. Oh and i might consider egtting anthems.

i have mostly skied stiff skis and i just got a pair of softer skis and i love them. they are so much fun and more forgiving. i would go for the invaders if i were you just for dicking around purposes.

i have some scratch fs wrs which for me, are pretty damn stiff i'd say. I love them in the park but they're pretty boring otherwise. I had TMs before and I can tell for sure that if I had some soft skis I'd be washing out and falling at least double I am on my scratches, the stiffness is definitely nice for me, but i'm looking to get a pair of soft skis to mess around on

well i ski %90 park and when im out o fthe park im just dicking around on groomers, and if it makes a difference the conditions i ski are usually hard pack(midwest)

I'm gonna say it's really up to you. It's such a hard choice it's really hard to decide, maybe you should just go demo or try a friends and at least get a feel for one of the extremes. I land backseat a lot and the stiffness of my skis saves me everytime, I should prolly be washing out everytime so i love them for that, also great pop, but it also limits me on what i could do with a soft ski.

I'd prolly take my WRS over soft skis only because it's been everything I hoped for, but my next ski will definitely be a complete noodle

what are the pros and cons of each?thata would probally help me decide. and is ontario considered midwest??

described them above in terms of me not washing out on backseat landings and such.

soft skis are definitely 20times more fun on groomers, or would be for me at least, butters, you can ollie and whatnot, way more fun to mess around on, stiff skis are pretty straight foward, for me at least. I do appreciate the edge hold seeing as MA is ice except for the occasional amazing day.

just make sure you get a size that's gonna be a bit long on you now but, as you said your growing, so you won't look like a fool on by the end of the season

The difference between those is not the flex isn't the flex PATTERN. Overall they are very sinilar, it's just the Invader has sorter trips and tails. So better for buttering/etc.

Whoever mentioned Cratch FS and Troublemakers is talking shit. FS are softer overall than any ski mentioned here and Troublemakers are stiffer than the others.

so your saying scratches are softer then tms?

maybe it's just me but i cant flex my scratches for shit

Yeah I have last years WRS. It's a while since I skied TMs but I'm sure they're stiffer. I looked at the flex charts just now and they confirmed it.

The only skis I've skied that are sfter than the FS are JOs and STLs.

I'd say get some soft skis, unless you like ripping carves, soft skis are for you. Way more fun to butter and stuff on, and when the ideal soft snow day comes around, they are unbeatable. If you are boosting big jumps ie over 50 ft regularly, i'd bump up to a stiffer ski.

me, 50ft jump? HAHAHA by the time i get the balls to do that i will def go out and buy stiff ski's.

thanks for the advice everyone it has helped alot.

I think flex charts might show the FS as being somewhat soft, but the pattern/location of where they are soft vs stiff does make them pretty stiff while actually riding. If I remember correctly TMs are pretty stiff underfoot, but the tips were complete noodles for me

Soft skis are more forgiving. Stiff skis are less so, but it all depends on how you ski.

Not sure if torsional flex applies to twins much, but they do to gaper skis (I don't know what else to call 'em)

get this years off the web. they're pretty cheap as is and if you decide to get next years you'll still have a few months on new sticks.

this season i skied the scott p3 and the jon olsson promodel.

the scott have a very stiff tail while the jon olsson are fairly soft.

the main difference i felt was :

-more fun with soft skis.

-legs feel better at the end of the day with soft skis.

-stiff ski will be much better on medium - large jumps over 50 ft. escpecialy if you land backseat.

if you are a strong skier, with nice legs you can go for a stiff ski it will be better.

if you are light, and you dont hit big jumps (50+) go for a soft ski like invader.

maybe you should consider the mojo 80 or jon olsson promodel they are very nice on ice, because they are not that wide (77 mm)

and if you hit small jumps a soft ski will be better to learn cause they forgive more mistakes.

Ive ridden T-Halls and Ar6's, and I can safely say I like a stiffer ski alot better. Its more stable, feels lighter and less bulky, and overall more fun.
