Stiff knees

on season my knees are pretty decent at absorbing hard landings but for off season I have issues getting in an athletic stance. It's difficult to do squats past a 45 degree angle and especially when playing tennis, my knees just hurt afterward because I'm up and down so much.

any suggestions on how to loosen up the joints in the knees while still keeping them strong?

theres some lubercation in your knees that will wear down as you get old/ abuse them (probably your case). i think you can get some synthetic stuff injected in there to help you out.

well the thing is they've been like this a lot but it's even worse this summer. I'm not overly abusing them I don't think...I'm a young 18 year old who shouldn't have any joint issues like that. but I am a skier as well. that might have messed things up a bit

yo meng just lift your leg a bit when standin lift da bottom half to 45ish deg angle and kick down in a fast motion but stop it befor you hyper extend it. repeat

ummmm...

what i suggest is that you stretch a whole lot, get yourself hydrated, and take joint supplements.

thats what i would do, and if it doesnt start to feel better in a month or two i woiuld go to the doctor.

^^ what he said. Try Glucosamine and Chondroitin (sp?) supplements. My dad has pain in his knees because of worn down cartilage, and he takes it and it has helped immensely. Obviously you should do some research before taking these, but neither are prescription and they wont hurt your knees more by taking them, so its worth a shot.

yep, stretch more, breath more = yoga. joint supplements can work too.

and make sure that when you workout you:

stretch

then warm up with some cardio

then stretch again when you are warm

then get after it (tennis, running, hardcore sex, whatever)...

then walk a bit

then stretch again.

If this is still persisting go see a doctor, but only if you've got health insurance first ;)

just keep stretching them ilke go down as low as you can but dont over stretch it, ive recked my knees and they show me how to stretch them and how to loosen them up and that works the best

try some glucosamine, stretching and body weight squats.

if you have a hard time going past 90 on your own, get an exercise ball, put it up against the wall, rest your back on it, and do squats with the ball assistance.
