STH2 WTR 13 Toe Wing Adjustment

I bought some new STH2 WTR 13's and got them mounted by a good shop in the South Island of New Zealand however I live in the North Island so they didn't have my boots to adjust the forward pressure, toe height, and toe wings. I have adjusted the forward pressure and toe height just fine (forward pressure screw not sitting out/in and 0.5mm gap between AFD and boot as indicated by instruction manual) however the toe wing adjustment isn't very clear in the manual.

Basically all it says is don't over tighten and make sure the friction free contacts on the wing touch the boot. I'm not sure how tight to actually make the wings against the boot. Currently what I've done is loosen the wings completely and then tighten the wings until the screw stops turning easily. Is this the correct way to do it or should I do something else?

Thanks for any help.

I've never worked on the new STH2. But the old ones, you loosen the toe wings off until they do not touch, and then tighten until they do. Do not over toghten, just snug them up until they touch.

Quoting for emphasis. Tighten so they touch, but only just, it's quite easy to over tighten the toe wings if you're not careful. As always though, if you're in any way unsure of what you're doing, see a shop tech.

Thanks guys just what I was looking for. +K

I've over tightened them because I read from a previous thread somewhere that you want to tighten them until the resistance goes way up which must be wrong.

As soon as I get the chance I will loosen them up and set them so the wings just touch the sides.

Whereabouts in the North Island are you?

The method I use is to set it roughly, then pull back reasonably hard on the cuff of the boot so the toe lug is hard up against the toe wings. To check it, take a business card and slip it between the boot sole and the AFD - when your toe height is just right it should catch lightly on the way through.

For a slightly more aggressive setting, use a piece of printer paper instead.
