Hey NS!!Sorry for another binding thread. i couldnt find anything when i searched. I just wanted to know which one is better for me and why.

Salomon STH 12 vs. Head Mojo 12

Height: 5'11"

Weight:170

Skiing level:~3

+k for help!!

At your weight I would look instead at the STH 14 driver (or the Atomic FFG 14 Team, It's the same binding) and the Tyrolia/Head/4FRNT/Liberty/Amplid 15 din binding. You can definitely justify getting those din ranges. The STH 14 Driver and Tyrolia 15 din are essentially the same bindings you mentioned in the original post, but with a higher din range and improvements to areas where the bindings mentioned in the OP are inferior.

Unless you are riding at 11 or above there is no real need to spend more on the 14 or 15 din version. People make the assumption that if you got up in the din range the binding changes when I fact it's not true. Generally only the very top binding in the din range will have any differences to the lower levels and these are usually minor.

Anyway regarding the sth an peak, you need to find out which sth it is. There are two versions of the sth 12, the driver and the oversize. The difference is the toe. You want to get the driver one not the oversize. The oversiZe is just a larger version of the z toe. Between the sth12 driver and peak 12, its close both great bindings. Peaks are a bit heavier but can usually be found cheap. Sth12 driver ha the benefit of the adjustable toe so as your boots wear you can adjust the toe to keep things tight. But overall you will be happy with either.

That was the most contradictory post ever.

STH changes toe pieces on any din greater than 12

FKS changes toe pieces any din great than 14.

Idk, I guess I ride 13-14 din and have to know.

Get the STH, it's far superior. I don't hate on any binding (Sally, marker, FKS) besides tryolas/peaks/fischer

The only sth driver toe which changes is the 16 and even then only slightly. And yes the top level FKS changes this is what I stated, that only the top level binding change.

If you can show me any evidence that a sth driver 12 toe and a sth driver 14 toe differ I would be very interested.

The mojo 15 is a much better binding than the mojo 12. Either get the STH with the driver toe or mojo 15's.

12's will be fine mate. Unless you are using high din settings you will be fine with them. They are one of the only 12 din bindings I have used which worked for me. I use the sth 16 and sth 16 steels for reference.

Just to make sure, which toes do you have on your 12's?

Yeah the steels are great, totally uneeded over the sth 16 but they were free so a nice treat.

And to the guy above it was the bottom toe which I have used the most, but I think some of the demos I tried this season had that newer toe on.

I personally kind of wary toward the toe on the lower models/would much rather have the toe on the 15 and 18. Here is just another thought, next year, the only binding that keeps the toe design on the bottom is the 18, the highest din model.

The bottom toe works great other then the sth 12 driver I think it's one of the better toe pieces in the market. They are also so cheap generally. For someone like the op only using a din of 8 I think it's a very good choice.

Well obviously if you are comparing the sth14 driver to the sth 12 oversize there is a difference as its a completely different toe piece. But if you compare the sth 14 driver to the sth12 driver the toe pieces are identical.

And next season both sth's have the exact same toe piece so the 16 is identical to the 13.

What ever you do don't buy the non driver toe. I prerelease like a mother fucker from the toe at 14 din and I have the forward pressure set correctly.

With mojos keep an eye out on the brakes, they tend to break but replacing them is easy and almost every shop carries brakes. A buddy of mine did blow out a heel on mojo 15s but that was the model with the diagonal heel and they since then made the heels better.
