Stevens pass VS. summit at snoqualmie

If you think that those parrents were teaching their kids the 'safe' way or even teaching them anything at all I really don't know what to say to you.

I think I am being miss understood here. The case you are speaking of is yes probably a bunch of gapers not knowing what they are doing... However just because you are 6 and your legs are short and you hike slower doesn't mean you shouldn't be allowed to go int the BC with your parents...

ummm ya it does.
I highly highly doubt any of the parents out there with their 10 or younger kids is teaching them anything other then how to be an overpaid idiot from Mercer Island.

Well I don't ski at snoqualmie so I cant say anthing about that, but up at crystal I know quite a few families who have young kids and take them to the south back, and let them experience some awesome terrain. I've also seen some young kids skiing up on the muir snow field....

Alright man, I'm not going to argue this anymore, Ill just leave it at this, everyone at some point, if skiing back country should take an avalanche course, should practice using their transceiver and probe, and not ski alone...

My vote is Stevens FTW

stevens, no contest

i ski'd all last year there and hardly had to wait in line on the backside

snoqualamie is crapamie

Stevens for sure, their park gets better every year and on pow days it doesnt get all cramed like alpental

well there seems to be a big split (like usually on NS) but i took a trip out there and did hit both up..

stevens = better terrain

snoqualmie = better park

but crystal owns stevens for terrain but does not have a park. so its really just what you want to ski maybe you can hit up all three

its supposed to be an el nino year (but I dont give a shit) so that 1,000ft elevation difference, plus the locale in the state, might be the difference between a good year, and a shit year.

Get the gold pass, and you can get some days at Stevens as well as unlimited Snocrummy. I mean snoqualmie. I have only been to Stevens when i was a gaper boarder, but its hard to beat a few feet of fresh Alpy backcountry.

If these are your only choices, Stevens. Why not try Crystal Mtn? A bit of a drive, but much bigger mouintain than both of the others combined and all terrains from bunny to steep back country.

stevens ass is better then snowcompton in all ways.

snowcompton has shitty everything, parks may have aton of features but they are made poorly, and there is so many gapers, joies, and the works. long ass lines. runs are realy short and stevens has a better park, BC and longer runs, short lift lines.

1. This yr is gonna be an el nino year which means lots more rain, so if you had to choose btwn the two, I'd do Stevens cause it's higher elevation
2. why not get a pass to xtal instead- better terrain. doesn't the pass come with a bunch of free days at alpy/snoquampton?

so the el nimno mean that stevens will get more snow cas of its elavation. but snoqualmie will get rain

i think it is dryer but at a higher elevation it will come down as snow instead of rain at the snoqualmie area

Snoqualmie for me.

Alpental has more vertical than steven's, and is only like 500 feet lower. If its raining at Alpental, then its probly raining at steven's too.

Alpental BC is a lot more technical. I'm not saying like oh man up and go get cliffed out, but if thats your thing, thats what Alp is. Some people I ski with aren't that down with the Alpental BC, its just preference.

Actually fuck it, its all personal preference. They both have strengths. Just flip a coin if you can't decide.

Yeah, I think it means less precip over all and also a warmer winter....so, higher freezing levels for the NW, and a bomber year for CO & UT
I was thinking since xtal & stevens are mostly higher than alpy theyd be a safer bet for more snow...
but get ready for a shitty winter. remember like 3 or 4 yrs ago when they refunded passes at snoq & stevens, and there was like no sow until after xmas, basically? I think that was the last el nino year?

it depends. el nino doesn't necessarily mean bad winter. It was el nino winter when Mt. Baker set theworld record for snowfall. There's just a particular orientation of the jet stream that el nino sometimes causes that gives us massive snowfall. if it isn't set up that way, which it isn't supposed to be this year, then we get fucked.

sort of true..

but think of all the people that hit wenatchee bowl, which is a big hike. Its not worth it after a certain point..too many tracks. Oh and forget cowboy anymore, tracked out by 1 on a decent snow day till a while past sidewinder now days(as in last season). and that is saying snows the night before. i hate the pow ski revolution because less people would be there w/o them..

I think that El Nina when it's good, HOWEVER, that big year at baker probably was forecasted El Nino(VERY VERY VERY WRONG) before the season(so I agree that these things mean nothing).

GET IT THROUGH YOUR HEADS PEOPLE TOP OF THIS PAGE- THEY CAN'T FORECAST 125 DAYS INTO THE FUTURE. THEY HAVE NO IDEA. THEY HAVE BEEN WRONG JUST ABOUT EVERY YEAR FOR THE PAST 5 YEARS. 08/09? BIG SNOWS!!! FORECASTED ALL YEAR(August 08 prediction). Yet, we went over a month with no snow, and came out below average. 07/08? LOW SNOW FORECAST FOR THE UPCOMING SEASON IN AUGUST 07, yet that was the best year since 98/99.

GET A CRYSTAL PASS, use it for the great terrain, hit snocrummy for it's park with your Crystal pass(Which I know won't suck next year) and spend a weekend or two at Stevens if you want.

First off 89.99 was an El Nino year. El Nino is an over all weather pattern over the pacific that generally results in warmer and wetter winters in the PNW, it has a lot of other effects across the whole pacific, for example drier summers in Australia.
As far as the pacific north west goes, it does not mean more or less snow. it all depends on how much warmer and how much wetter it gets. If it warms up so that the average freezing level is right around 2500 feet rather then 1500ft durring dec-march you will tend to get much more snow in the passes (3000-6000) If it results in the average freezing level being around 5000-6000 feet you get much less snow in the passes (re 04.05).
any way, they are not telling you any specific data, just that the PNW is most likely to see warmer temperatures and more precipitation this year.
They have been scarily accurate the last few years.Last year was predicted to have a heavy snowfall in the start and end of the winter (december and March/April respectively) with a drier mid winter. Which was exactly what happened. The 07.08 year was supposed to be snowier then usual. which is was. The 06.07 year was supposed to be about normal. It ended up being just above normal snowpack. The 05.06 year was supposed to be a much higher then normal, which it was.The 04.05 winter was supposed to be much warmer, which it was.

idk about twice as much but i think they were more.... but def worth it if you can survive a day without a park.

i forgot about alpental at snoqualmie and although i didnt get to ski it i hear great things so that put the summit at the top of my list

So El Nina=colder but less precip. then? also were the previous predictions that you said were right from this far back, though, or more like early November? also how heavy one way is the current prediction for this next season..? I am guessing low to low-moderate El Nino would be best for Stevens, a bit more snow even if it is a bit wetter.

you pose a very good question. i personally like snoqualmie for the park, but stevens does seem pretty nice. if any of you are thinking about hitting up alpental, you should pm a week or so before.

Stevens is by far better. Go there. But if you have the chance, skip WA altogether and head to Utah or something. I'm not trying to be a snobby washingtonian but seriously, places like Tahoe and SLC are much better in terms of snow and in some cases, better terrain. Washington snow is HEAVY. When it's not raining, of course.

The fuck is this shit doing in my ski gabber. Get the fuck out. Washington is full of jiveass prossy faggotrons~
