Stevens Pass Park Petition

There has been a petition going around to get the Stevens Park moved back to the Brooks chairlift. Long story short, the new location is awful. Long lift lines, it’s a narrow run, etc… I'm sure more NSers can point out more problems with it being on the Hogsback run.

To my knowledge, this petition and rally cry has been peaceful-ish. But it is rumored that Stevens management has heard about this, and now may be threatening to just shut the park down… possibly for good.

If there is any merit to this threat, then this is heartbreaking, Vail. You should truly be ashamed. The most loyal riders are trying to make a genuine issue heard, and you are cowering behind threats.

Has anything ever been achieved with change.org/online petitions in general?

Probably not, it's more the principal of this whole thing and how the resort may respond that is really upsetting to me

wouldn’t be a vail resort without boneheaded terrain management and an active labor dispute

feel bad for the stevens locals who had to watch their mountain implode over the course of two seasons

it has been so heartbreaking to watch what has happened to that place.

I will be completely above board and say that Stevens is not my home mountain.. besides the obvious points about the park being totally obliterated my awful management, what have you observed?

I really want [tag=104058]@theabortionator[/tag] 's thoughts on this. Have you heard anything about this OTJ at Crystal?

I really don't know too much about it and haven't ridden there. I've heard a decent amount about it, and one of my roommates used to ride there a lot but I don't really have anything new to add honestly.

As far as the petition causing the mountain to shut down the parks, I feel that's pretty unlikely. Vail has made a lot of bad changes to parks imo, but I don't see them doing anything just to be vindictive.

It's been pretty sad to see the parks decline at their mountains, and especially in the one's they've purchased more recently that had thriving park programs.

Unfortunately it kind of is what it is. Mtns change management, vision, crews shift, parks get better or worse. There will be seasons where a mountain is killing it, and one of the best, then it fades away. Sometimes, they come back sometimes they don't. Sometimes the little hill nobody thought about steps up, sometimes it doesn't.

The thing with Vail is that they're still buying up resorts, so I don't see them getting rid of many any time soon and their vision doesn't really leave a lot of room for parks.

Beaver Creek barely even has a park anymore, Big Boulder sounds like it got nerfed pretty hard, same with Stevens. Northstar, Keystone, Park City, and some others still have solid park programs. Idk if it's the size, consistent/strong park management and crew, Vail seeing value in the parks at these places more than others.

Idk, it def sucks to see, especially for anyone who's home hill get's downgraded, vail or not.

Interested to see how it plays out. I was following Stevens Pass for a long time. Place was killing it. One of my buddies worked there years ago. I thought about trying to get up there for a bit. Hopefully they can make some changes that make the parks better again and the park rats happy. Best of luck

got added to Epic so just a huge increase in traffic, increased prices, they let go of a bunch of locals....and then ofc the park. I’m very bummed about it. Stevens park used to be top notch, produced so many talented riders and skiers(Noah Wallace the ?)Idk the changes they made were not huge but seemed to have a large impact. Basically just the usual corporate mismanagement for increased Cost effectiveness.

I forgot about Noah Wallace! Excellent point

This situation at Stevens, and what [tag=104058]@theabortionator[/tag] said above really has me scared that park skiing is slowly being bled to death by these corporate changes. Time will tell

it was just as busy before. have you riden the park lately? it's actually pretty fun. i think a lot of the weirdness last year was just adapting to a new run, where as the old one had been in the same spot almost 20 years. but you forgot the real og, d-spong.
