Stevens Pass Hope On The Slopes 2009/ Washington NS Member Gathering

The basic concept behind this event is gather donations in the name of skiing for the American Cancer Society. It also doubles as a vertical challenge where you tag the amount of runs youve taken and they record the amount of vert youve racked up. Theres only a couple prizes and the team needs to raise quite a bit of money (more than I expect to get) but it can be a real fun thing to do. You ski all night from saturday morning to sunday morning (if you choose to).

In the past NS has had a couple members participate (Me, Will, Shreddingthegnar etc) but this year I will be forming Team Newschoolers in order to spur more involvment. Since I will be forming the team there is no entry fee, you need only to sign up (through me) and ask your friends and family for a small donation. We all realize that times are tough, but I am hard pressed to think of a better cause. With the ACS you know your money is being well spent and making a real impact. I dont have high goals for money raised, id just like to get everyone together, raise some money, and have a good time.

This is also going to double as an NS member gathering weekend. We talked about this last year but this year id really like to get a strong group of NSers to come together and hopefully we can meet all of the people we have been chatting with all this time, obviously a lot of us already know eachother, but fuck yeah for washington, always good to meet more people. So even if you are not planning on joining in on HoTS I hope that you can come up and shred.

The event takes place on March 7th and 8th and if you are a part of the event you can pay a reduced fee for a 2 day lift ticket (50$?). You can also try asking your friends for their season passes, Stevens Pass employees will no doubt see this, but meh, theres really no way for lifties to tell if its you or them when you go through the RFID gate haha.

In the coming weeks ill see about setting up a more organized event for NSers (midnight park party haha?) and ill have the team formed. Please contact me with any questions or to express your interest in joining the team. Most likely I wont be filling up the spots until a couple weeks before the event just to avoid people dropping out of it and having to deal with that. There are 15 spots on the team and I expect to easily fill up all 15. They also encourage some kind of team uniform... maybe we will do tall tees down to our ankles or something haha, any thoughts on this are welcome, if you are up for it.

Not sure if I forgot something... but discuss away~

Oh and not sure how realistic this is, but maybe if NS has a slow news day we can gather pictures and film to put together a story for the front page~

Whats the limit on team sizes?

Also, count me in for sure. I'm going to see if I can get some people at my work involved and donate.

I'm an idiot, I need to read.

As for a uniform, I've always wanted to get Sasquatch and Yeti suits going. Snuggies would be too wind resistant. Maybe just some suspenders?

On second thought ill probably accept people into the team as soon as I get it formed, neglected to consider that it would give extra time for people to gather donations, and if you bail well then you cant have a refund haha~

I won first place for individual vertical feet two years ago. NBD hahah. super fun event though! skiing all nite is pretty fucking rad and you get to fight cancer!

Alright the team is up and running. At first id like to give priority to NS members, but of course if theres room id love to have your friends (skiers or snowboarders, but not snowbladers, fuck them) join the team. Heres a link to our team page.

After selecting the team just go through the prompts and it will ask you for some information and ask you if you want to make an additional gift. If you think you cannot give any money yourself but can raise money from people you know thats perfectly ok. I made this team with the idea that a lot of us are broke college students or maybe under 18 without jobs. Doesnt mean you cant get some pledges and have a good time skiing for cancer.

As the event gets closer we will work on coordinating some kind of NS meet up, for those involved with the event or not. It will be a fun (and epicly long if you choose) day of skiing.

Not sure if I forgot anything but feel free to ask any questions. Hope to see some people coming out to stevens from Baker, Mission, and Snocompton as well~

Anyways if youre still down for carpooling to stevens with some peeps for the event wed love to have you come down, since its an all night event you can actually just post up with a sleeping bag in the lodge, take a nap/sleep and then ski the next day (same ticket as saturday)~

Yeah, I'd definitely be down. How much is the lift ticket?

(Pssssst Bellingham guys, who wants to go..)

i guess this would be a good warm up for the helly hansen big mountain battle, plus my ACS donation last year just came up big when filling out my taxes just now.

last year was just limited to sky and hogs. so do some stretches and get your thighs ready to tuck skyline top-to-bottom for hours and hours.

is it on daylight savings again? i got shorted by an hour last time.

scott im in.

i want to say like 65,000.... Not too sure because they had some problems with the system but I think that's close

sounds sick, if i can get a ride from wenatchee ill be there for sure. and, but dont hold me to this, i may be able to work it with my dad to let me use our cabin(located 30min from the mountain outside of plain) as a place for people to crash for the night.

Many people just crashed in the bottom floor of one of the lodges last year as well, if the cabin thing doesnt work out~

yeah 10am in the lodge: "um everyone if you could come to the front and tell us how many runs you did since midnight.....thanks". and thats how a 75 year old came out of nowhere and won.

yay im unbanned, bump. Hopefully bellingham skiers can organize something, seems to be some interest in making the trip down~

THIS IS ALL JUST A PLOY TO STEAL YOUR MONIES

But really, sign up, kill some cancer, have fun~

Marketime in Fremont will be donating a little to our team, and I talked to one of the guys from Evo today who said they still have some money left in a slush fund they can throw at the team.

But we need a team. Sign your ass up. Its for cancer.

One of my friends asked me and grant to be on his team. But if he's unable to get one together i'll join up with you guys! I really want to do it!

Sounds good, glad you guys are going to enter. Of course if things dont work out your friend is more than welcome to join the team~

For sure, whether competing or not everyone should take the chance to make the trip up to stevens for this weekend and meet some new NSers. Maybe beat Billy up for talking trash about you, lick the balls of someone with way more posts than you, or whatever your reasons might be ^_^~
