So im getting a new deck with a flip out dvd player that only will play in park. I'll be installing it on monday and I have heard that there is a mod where you switch/splice a wire so you can play dvd's while driving (for passanger use not mine) everybody that I have talked to doesnt know any details/ 3rd hand info.

Does any one know how to do this I've looked on youtube and google already but couldnt find anything.

btw its a Kenwood kvt-514 going into an 05 dakota

Wierd, all the flips ups ive seen play while the car is driving. I was driving my buddies colorado and watching Ski Movie 3. Look at the schematics and see if there is a wire that is call saftey, or lockout, or something else to that effect.

i have one of these! used to be hooked up to an n64 ps2 and gamecube too lol.
you just need to attach the ground wire somewhere, or some have a software hack.
when its installed legally the ground wire is connected to your parking break, so that when the break is engaged, it plays.
you just need to ground anywhere else in the car and your set to go.
but seriously i dont reccomend it, i did it and honestly realized after 2 minutes i was going to die if it was distracting me.

Make the parking break sensor believe the parking break is always on, you will have the little red light on the dash display always on which can be distracting, but if you have a tv infront of your face as well I don't think ur going to be concerned about that. It should be set up for your ebrake though, not park cuz half cars don't have a "park" (manuals). Depends on the car but it should be easy to do, just look it up on google real quick. Hope that helps

Thanks guys for the info. I really dont like hacking anything but if I found someone I trusted I would, but I think if I just touch the parking brake a little it'll work good. ^its a dakota automatic so no e-brake^

well there is no way for the stereo to magically 'know' if your transmission is in park or your handbrake is on. You'd have to connect it to the park brake sensor.

Listen to the guy a few posts up. just connect it to a ground. without knowing anything at all about the stereo or your car I'd say that that would work. nearly all cars work on a switching ground so its likely that that would work. otherwise you would probably connect it to a 12v source if the ground didn't work. but I wouldn't do that without talking to someone who knows what they're talking about and who can see the problem at hand

I thought I'd drag this out of the archives just to answer my own question incase anyone wants to know the same thing. As a few other people said all I did was ground the Parking brake wire to a bolt on the fire wall very simple. now II have my old ps2 slim hooked up so I can play SSX and ATV vs MX whenever im waiting around or riding instead of driving.
