Stept NO HELMET!?

More risk = more excitement = more people want to watch. Some of the stuff they do is so big even if they did wear a helmet it wouldn't help. why the hell do skydivers wear helmets is my question.

this is all really.

but for those of you who do other ExTrEmE sports, doesn't it feel like it's easier for you to hit your head while skiing? I just feel like with skis and ski boots on, it's a lot harder for me to control a fall and sometimes I just have to go with it. I never feel like that while skating (be it rollerblading, longboarding, and I can actually skateboard a little). I don't even get that feeling while surfing. Even though I let the wave take me i do it by choice and feel like I know exactly whats going on.

tl:dr - seems like it's easier tofall better in other action sports versus skiing/snowboarding.

It matters because Stept is setting an example. They might have all the skill in the world and are able to avoid serious injuries most of the time, but they are who the next generation looks up to and all it takes is one fuck up.

And wearing a helmet doesn't make you confined, when you're soaring down the mountain you feel every bit of adrenaline and danger.

I say fuck it, do what you want. "Live free or die."

But what kind of gets to me are kids that are eaasily influenced; believing that to be a respected urban segment, you should be showcasing your ability without a helmet.

I don't think any of us would want to see someone wreck themselves, flinging a sketchy 4 on to an urban 4 kink believing that ppl would think less of him if he had been wearing one.

this ended up being last post of 1st page (not a good place to be buried). anyone arguing to not wear helmets should listen to this story.

http://dannyisthebomb.com

On January 3rd, 2011 Danny Toumarkine took a horrible fall while snowboarding in Montana. Danny was care flighted to a local hospital where he spent the next 33 days. During his time at the hospital Danny underwent 4 brain surgeries as a result of impact trauma to the left side of his head. Danny is very lucky to be alive.

And besides, helmets are rad anyways. they help control goggle fogging, are warm, or can be very well ventilated. Personally, I would be dead if it weren't for wearing a helmet.

Because it adds danger. For the same reason big mountain skiers ski lines right next to 200 foot cliffs that could easily kill them.

I wear a helmet but if they don't want to, I don't have a problem with that.

1st. Cares about looks over safety

2nd. Tells everyone they're wrong and knows he's right

3rd. Says newschoolers sucks but yet is posting and is online

So many concerned citizens here it's great to see and so motivating. Please, another 'what if' scenario or maybe a prediction about a particular individual dying.......

1st. Cares about being LEGIT over being a pussy

2nd. You still don't know shit

3rd. newschoolers sucks cus of the stupid and dumb users that think they know shit when they don't

This conversation is so fucking played out. How about this....do what you feel is best for you personally, and don't tell other grown men what is and isn't an acceptable risk for them. It literally has zero effect on you. Any rhetoric about being role models, setting an example etc. is fucking dumb. If you're looking to guys who are propelled into brick walls with a motorized winch for examples as to how to live your life, well...

I dunno about you guys, but I think I saw Cam Boll wear a helmet during the majority of his segment.

yeah i think this is kind of a stupid arguement. admitted i always wear my helmet but its up to them. and besides it may also be about comfort. about the one time ive ever skied without a helmet it was one of the most comfortable things ever.

I wear my helmet most of the time, and right now I've been training to become an instructor at my home mountain. Whenever I have to shadow a ski lesson on the bunny hill I don't wear my helmet. Anywhere else that doesn't consist of me shadowing lessons on the bunny hill, you won't find me without my helmet on the mountain.

Blame the protection gear industry for not sponsoring them with bucket's.. And blame Monster for giving stept hot secretaries.. I'll choose one of them leather monster girls over a redbull helmet any day!

I guess being steezy is worth more to these guys than avoiding an injury which could take them permanently out of the sport they love. Oh the things we do to look cool, but no one really gives a fuck about the clothing you wear.

oh boy this debate again!

This is Tyler. Tyler was wearing a helmet. Tyler is still alive thanks to his helmet.

Stept crew obviously doesn't give a shit. Hopefully none of them will ever have to pay the price.

I was actually thinking about this a few.days ago. And was wondering how long it will be before a huge pro dies and everyone starts wearing a helmet

Though myself and most of you wouldn't make the same decision, we all have to agree they do in fact look badass and cooler with out helmets. That being said hopefully none of them crack their dome too hard in the future.

The one run I did this season I railed my head into a tree. I got a concussion and had headaches for five months(literally all day everyday) and they just finally went away this week. Throw dat shit on ya' dome. Not worth it at all.

You sound like the worst kind of douche. If not wearing a helmet is why you enjoy stomping some shit it's time to reevaluate your shit

It is smart to wear a helmet.

Im not going to try to justify not wearing one because it wont be a very convincing argument... But lets get real here...

snowboarding is arguably a few years ahead of skiing in terms of street and film but almost all segments coming out have riders who dont wear helmets.

Lets face it, you look good stomping with one on, but without its like holy shit, these guys are good.

And to the idiot that said that the injury's they portray in the film are self inflicted due to this, get real. There was a blown knee and some shoulder and rib shots. that has nothing to due with a helmet

Stop sounding like a bunch of pussies

We should probably just make a law forcing everyone on skis to wear a helmet at all times. Also lets make backcountry skiing illegal because that's dangerous too.

I mean its their choice not newschoolers so why should be flip shit about it. I do find ironic that they take so much time to show their injuries and stuff yet they cant wair a helmet. Although most of there injuries are neck down...

If you didn't grow up wearing helmets, they do make you feel really confined. Are the Stept guys in any way a good example on young folk, even if they did where helmets? No, they trespass, drink a lot (chucks seg for example), and smoke a lot of weed. They ski for their own enjoyment and not to be an example to you young whippersnappers. They make movies for the love of doing so, not to set an example. Anyways we really shouldn't give a fuck what other people do unless it causes direct harm to us. And if you don't wear a helmet just because you see your idol do it, that's just stupid. Any who, I'm done with this thread now because it's pointless. Now it's time to party :D Have a good night NS.

That's because JoeJoe's smart enough to be safe. He knows that he doesn't want to die, but inspires the Stept crew while he's at it.

Did Stept answered a question about that in their Q&A? I'd like to see what they think about wearing a helmet, obviously they don't seem to give a shit, and they haven't thought about the fact that they don't really set a good example for kids. I'm sure a lot of people don't want to wear helmets indirectly or unconsciously because of Stept, and I know a couple of people who were wearing helmets before while hitting urban and don't anymore and I find it quite stupid.

We are highly influenceable people... weather you accept it or not, skiers are influenced by the trends of their peers. Why should we rationalize not wearing a helmet as ENTIRELY personal choice in a sport that is both highly dangerous and susceptible to trends.

If you choose to not war a helmet, so be it, but be sure your not making that decision without the bias of trends (aka being cool). On the other hand, I think its valuable to actively push the norm in the safer direction... lets make it odd not to wear a helmet in segments

Wearing a helmet definitely prevented some pretty serious head injuries for me 2 seasons ago. I love watching the Stept movies but the lack of helmets make me uncomfortable as I watch.

Don't be a pawn in the safety marketing campaign. They are making money off of your fears. There is a place for helmets, but it sure as fuck isn't green and blue trails and small terrain parks....if that's the case you should be wearing your helmet going to and from the mtn, because that's where you will get a brain injury.
