Stephen Colbert joins presidential race for 2008

if i lived in the states he'd have my vote

reason being he can hold my attention for more than 2 mins as opposed to any other presidential candidate

you really dont think he has a chance of winning? he just has most of the u.s. wraped around his finger by his show, everyone knows him. everyone likes him. he gives good points to the u.s. structure as well. who would you rather choose? a black guy? a woman? or a funny ass comedian who pretty much rules the US of A

is he serious? i wouldn't give him my vote right off the bat, but i'd be interested in hearing his plans. it would also make the race extremely interesting and fun to keep up with.

i never said that he was unpopular, and i never said that i wouldn't vote for him.

his show is great, and he does make legit points, in a comedic way.

if he does end up on the ballot, i will definitely vote for him.

I suppose I should've mentioned this but he only intends to run in his home state of South Carolina.

It mentions it in the article. Its more of a publicity stunt then anything serious.

Hes running as both a Republican and a Democrat.

the dude isnt just a comidian.  he is smart as hell and knows his shit.  in my opinion the best president wouldnt be a politician but a history teacher/historian.  History repeats itself like a bad burrito.  and they all know their shit.

^ true, there are so many more people fit for the job, i know so many rediculous wise history teachers

Cha.

i hope his campaign gets some more press though because it will get a lot more people in tune with the election hopefully.

im so stoked on this right now. i posted a petition on here a few months ago to get him to run and im just really stoked on this

Thats pretty awesome, but you cant see anything amterializing for him. I mean with Jon Stuart hes serious enough to have legit and straightforward views that people can identify with. Colbert lives sarcasm so who knows.

I'd vote for him just cause he's hilarious. Since I don't think any of the candidates are actually going to follow through on most of their ideas, I plan on voting for who seems like the nicest guy. (I mean guy too. Fuck Hilary, she'd be awful)

hahahahaahahaha i think it's funny when people COMPLETELY fail to scratch the surface of colbert's sense of humor...his WHOLE SHOW is a parody of heavy-duty rightwing flag-waving pundits, specifically bill o'reilly. that's not his actual personality, if he seriously ran for president he would act completely differently than he does on his show. remember when he went to the white house press dinner as the keynote speaker? he trashed the bush administration STRAIGHT TO THEIR FACE for a solid 20 minutes...

unfortunately, i think he's just fucking around for the sake of fucking around. he's entering the south carolina primaries...BOTH of them...which is kind of absurd. also, he hasnt said anything about entering any other primaries aside from SC, so i think it's just a ploy for ratings, the whole thing is just an awesome excercise in general shenanigans and abuse of celebrity status...which is super sweet if you ask me, why the hell not? it'll be funny if he actually gets support.

oh, and i hate to claim, but of all the alumni of my college, stephen colbert is the one im most proud of

its sad to see that one would vote for colbert based purely on the grounds that he makes you laugh.

shows just how seriously the kids of today take a presidential election.

and how can you vote for him, you have no idea what kind of person he actually is. all you see is satire.

a kid i know roomed wit some idiot skinhead last year who loved te colbert report because he had no idea that colbert isn't being serious..

he won't win due to the fact that the majority of the country and everyone over 45 will not vote for him, and the demographic that watches the show usually doesn't have a high voter turnout. I do think he will have a good showing however. and if he was the president, we'd pull some sick ass pranks on other countries.

Word, but i can't really imagine it...if he was serious there would be more headline though, comadie centeral would be behind him and you'd see stuff...but yea, it would go great

why is that sad? I honestly don't think that it matters who is president. My life won't be affected no matter who is President. My quality of life hasn't changed AT ALL since the first George Bush. The government is way too complicated for one man to have that drastic of an impact on the way the nation is run.

RON PAUL 2008

STEPHEN COLBERT SUCKSASS AND IS A JOKE and his book sucks and so does his show. the man is not funny.

I like Stephen Colbert. I think he's really funny. But I would be willing to bet that 50 percent of Americans don't know who he is other than somebody on TV.

You would vote for him just because hes a funny guy? I'll admit I dont watch much of this show, i'm not much of a TV guy, so I dont really know his ideas and opinions on politics. HOWEVER, you would put your vote in faith of a guy just becasue he can make you laugh. You reaize he can fuck all of America up even more then Bush already did. I need to read more about this race, I havn't been very up to date with it

you have a very good point.

put it in retrospect, Ronald Reagan was an actor.  Look at cali, Arnold won.

I'm not 100precent sure he is serious but if he is he probably has a chance.

People in our country would probably vote for him before voting for a politician that would probably actually make more sense for our contry.  People are more inclined to listen to P Diddy's vote or die campaign than half of what the presidents actually say.  I'm not putting Colbert on the same level as some dumb uneducated overly liberal actor/actress from hollywood that tries to become politically involved without the slightest idea of what they're saying.  Because he does know what he's talking about.  But the fact that he has the public eye already gives him that much more of a chance to win assuming he is serious.

Haha that was so funny.

On a serious note I'd rather have him leading this country then Ron Paul.

Lol if i lived in america he'd have my vote, but what if it turns out to be another "Man of the year". that movie sucked.
