Step up young filmers

oh, and as for reference, this camera cost around 5000 new (when they were made, the price has dropped a bit now) if it sells for 2000 or under it's a sick deal.

looks pretty sketchy, terrible grammar and capitalization in the ad and then they only accept money order and western union. I wouldn't risk it.

shit, sorry, i thought it was the 170, not the 150, my mistake. still a sick camera though, better quality sound than a GL or VX, it was only 200 when i posted this.

That camera isnt actually that good either. Thats what they film much of Booter Crunk on. and Newscasters use bigger cams than that, they use full sized tapes, not miniDV.

its the pd170 which is "older brother" of the vx21k. it has xlr imputs and shoots DV and some other jazz.

you can color correct it to look like whatever you want. You can adjust the frame rate to whatever you want. I've said it before and I'll say it again. The DVX's 24p is a fucking gimmik.

actually I love the DVX for the 30p mostly. It is ooh so smooth. the 24p looks good in my opinion, I dont see how it is a gimmick. It looks very legit and you can make very good looking short films with it. Whenever I see FX1 footage, I just cant help but think of it as ugly, 60i footage, like a vx on steroids. It is down-converted to sd in the end anyway, so the resolution is useless for most viewers.

Just because you watch something on an ntsc monitor with 480 lines of resolution doesn't mean all footage looks the same. If you don't like interlaced, then that's your thing, personally I like the look of video. Either way, it doesn't really matter what camera you use, it's what you point it at.

ehh I don't know, I know a lot of people with an hd tv, regardless of what tv you watch something on, you always want to start with the highest resolution possible.

yeah but in my experiances, the DVX has more details image controls than the FX1. I dont think a sharper image is worth sacrificing a good quality otherwise. I know you can tweak the FX1 in post, but being able to make it look good in camera is always good.

Plus, I love the video look too from time to time, but I think the DVX has a waaaay better video look than the FX1. "The Office" style footage looks doooope.
