Well, another bill just was passed by the House again about easing the ban on Stem Cell research. And for the second time, Bush will almost assuredly veto it. So a few things;

As a student and a researcher, I believe Stem Cell research is absolutely vital for medical treatment progress and better healthcare. Its already been demonstrated that this technology has amazing curative potential, and investigating it would bring hope to many ill and injured people across the world.

Is it worth it to utilize a fertilized embryo made up of only a hundred cells if it will benefit millions? Is an embryo, no matter how small, a human life?

I've made up my mind about the first, but interested to hear what people have to say about the second.
 
I think it is awesome. They are curing some type of blindness with them right? I think if it betters our society, do it. bush isnt that smart
 
Abortion is already a legal practice... but we won't use the products from it to further human medical advancements. Yeah doesn't make much sense to me either. The people that are "pro-life", are the same ones that are all gung ho about the death penalty and sending young soldiers over to fight in the sand box.

I don't entirely agree with abortion, but I do think that it does serve it's place in society. Nobody but the mother should have to make the call whether or not she goes through with it. And I don't want to hear any bullshit about "but it's the man's baby too". No shit Dick Tracy... but the man isn't nearly as effected by the birth than the mother is.

But I'm getting off topic... In other countries where stem cell research is more prevelant, they have been making great strides. They have been making paralyzed people walk. My thoughts on why these idiots are opposed to stem cell research is because they are afraid of how positive the results will be. Thus preventing abortion from ever being banned, and/or an increased number of abortions.

 
Yeah, you bring up a interesting point: China is developing Stem Cell research, and some people from the US are going over there for medical treatment.
 
I think that if we want to stay on top of the world, we need to stay on top of all sciences and technological developments. Bush is holding us back, crippling our potential by continually vetoing this bill.
 
i think we should deal with the problems we have the way that we are, because i dont know about anyone else, but i feel like humanity is playing with fire when we start messing with shit like this. idk, just a thought
 
hbuI think Abortion is great, to a point. After 4.5 months it should not happen. I say this because when a aboirtion takes place later on in pregnancy, it is absolutley fucked what they do.

To begin the procedure, the abortionist turns the baby into a breech

position by grabbing the legs with forceps. Pulling the live baby

feet-first out of the womb and into the birth canal, the doctor

purposely keeps the head lodged just inside the cervix. The abortionist

then sharply thrusts a pair of long surgical scissors into the base of

the skull and opens them to enlarge a hole. This, of course, kills the

baby. A tube connected to a high-powered vacuum is then used to suction

out the brain material. This allows the skull of the baby to be

crushed, making it easier to complete the extraction.

Medical experts testified at congressional hearings that the baby feels

tremendous pain during the partial-birth abortion procedure. In fact,

doctors say a baby at this stage of development has a much higher

density of Qpioid (pain) receptors than children or adults.

Partial-birth abortions are performed routinely on mothers from 41/2

months into the pregnancy through full-term. About 90% of partial-birth

abortions are done during the fifth and sixth months. The majority are

performed on healthy babies carried by healthy mothers for elective

reasons.

I also COMPLETLEY support stem celll research and think lots of good things come from it....
