Steel edges...

Is it just me or do they wear down very quickly? Started riding park in January, and my steel edges are pretty fucked up... Maybe I do something wrong, or maybe it's just normal... I could really notice it today as it was icy as hell up there...

If you use the skis for anything outside of the park it is good to tune your edges

dont worry about it. if ur gonna ski a lot of rails then ur gonna hafta get new skis every season. torn about 6" of edge out of one of my skis last year and so far this year im missing 3" on each ski

Yeah.. I didn't think about other metalls, I was just wondering how fast your steel edges wear down and stuff... And also if there are different quality on steel edges (hardened?) etc.

I feel silly for posting this on a forum though..

aluminum edges? those would probably wear down the fastest, aluminum isnt a very hard metal at all. somebody should invent titanium edges, lightweight and strong as hell, if it hasnt been done already

titanium isn't cheap though...would probably up the price of the ski by about/at least $200.

Well my edges are dull by about day two or three. This season some of my edge ripped out at about the one month point.

my atomics have small pieces of edge under the feet for some reason but continuous pieces around the rest of the ski. Makes no sense and really bent some edges with 1 270 disaster in which I landed on one ski on one edge. its really bent.

on my second pair of pair skis this season.... when u accept that skiing park just destroys skis your life is much easier.

yes, the metal is more malleable so you don't destroy them. But this also means they detune faster. For brass edges i wouldn't even initially detune them b/c they detune themselves pretty fast.
