Steel City Showdown was an L

Owen was robbed, Cal Carson was treated like a toddler by x games and the announcers (am? really? an am??), and karsteter needs to develop a style.

There are my take aways, toss urs down

agreed

I don't disagree but this was still a lot cooler than most comps, I think what tom walsh is doing to give back to the community is sick

Can’t knock u there at all. I’m way more of a fan of this comp than any others. Take away xgames affiliation and ur really making progress. I get that it’s a massive publicity standpoint, but walnuts and NS can hold their own on that front

Respekt to the podium and judging was spot on Mac deserved the dub…feel like it’s a little unfair/limits skiers exposure when you got Olympians like Ahall competing tho lmao

That's probably why they had prizes for the qualifiers. Gets more people to enter and then everyone can hope for an upset.

You must be homies with Owen. I get how you could think he deserved more, but Owen was not robbed. Kid skied amazing and has a bright future ahead of him, but compared to Tucker's and Jackson's tricks he just didn't have it. The podium seems proper. Jackson is spiny-to-winny for sure but his clean and stomped execution add style in my opinion. Don't hate on scs, this was a great event. Props to Tom, Seven Springs and everyone else involved in this.

Title of the thread was impulsive I admit that. That being said I see a lot of value in technicality, but even more in style and variety. Karsteter repeated tricks and the spin to win idea needs to be left in the early to mid 2ks. Props to tucker, and obviously this is all opinion based for all of us, but I would have loved to see Owens skiing factored in for more than just on paper aspects ya dig

This event was definitely a net positive for skiing overall, very cool of my ski hero (Tom Wallisch) to make it happen. Admittedly, I get very *triggered* when people refer to Cal as an Amateur, but oh well. It's unfortunate that this is the last one, maybe Cal needs to have his own event?

Good event overall. Cal Carson is just as much as one of my idols as A hall. It made me disappointed that he didn't get the credit he deserves. Super cool event and vibe though. Great job on Toms part though. Hopefully more events like this pop up.

Is Cal short for something or is that just his straight up name

u a joke, it was not an L by any means, this was a event for skiing, as a culture the effort is there, don’t hate on it for what it is, my opinion tho

Ahalls 4 on backswap cont 2 or whatever should not have scored that high, kinda became spin to win, but cal kept it super fun. I forget who did it but the misty out of the t rail was way underscored i think it got like 82

Cal underperformed in the finals compared

to his qualies and quarter finals. Was waiting for that front up pretz 3 swap over the trap and it never came. Sick comp. Semi’s we’re funner to watch than the final because of the pacing

Consistent skiers get W complain all yas want but a feee to stream contest for skiers to watch is dope. Conditions were gnarly slush af go try and stomp tech shit Consistent.

no more steel city in the future? I had assumed this was the case because of vail, but wasn't sure

If this is just speculation because of Vail, I think it could go either way. The GM that is taking over next year at springs likes events and parks, so I think it will come down to how much say in things individual GMs have.

I missed the event and haven’t watched the recap yet, stoked to see what went down.

y’all get way too upset over the pro vs am status.

I'm not sure which people care less about, your opinions or your products.

The “WULL WULL this event was an L bc bc bc my fav CORE CORE skier can’t keep up with Olympic medalists and and and they should have LOST bc bc they don’t have style BRO” take is so old.

Idk Karsteter is one of the most genuine and nice skiers I’ve met in real life. I get it you don’t like spin to win but I wouldn’t go hate with even knowing how sick he actually is.

Fuck karsteter

Event was very dope overall and the skiing was sick.

I really didn't like the features.

I've got no problem with Karstarter. I thought he had dope style, I'll just never be able to spell his name

Ya the announcer calling Cal "am" was wack af. Seemingly their definition is pro = contest circuit? Lame af mentality. Cal was for sure the most interesting and fun dude to watch out there.

AHall is the best skier

Whoever was putting up the overlay literally just puts AHall if theyte over 6 ft tall

The name tag was so fucking unnacurate it felt like that guy and one of the announcers would just go on his phone like every couple minutes and then look up and go “oh shit better do something.” like there were multiple times where the announcer was just said something like “uhhhh uhhh so tom, is your mom still baking sausage bread?” So hilarious

I mean i rather watch colby do a sw3p3 then a 2p2… no need to put the rail on the snow but more "affordable" stuff to do different trick on but again thats just my preference

maybe it should be a mostly amateur comp instead of 2 olympians and the best rail skiers in the game

The guys is leaps and bounds better than me in my dreams but Cals runs in the final were weak as fuck. Even if they were landed clean which they weren’t a lot of the time.

Mac was unreal.

I wasn’t saying it wasn’t mental, bc it sure as hell was, and I’ll never ever be able to do what he did in this comp. I just really hope to see him not stick purely to the spin to win ideology in the future

If you think it was an L idk what to tell you, it was by far one of the best rail focused events that has ever happened.

It was a great entertaining competition, people have some unrealistic expectations man... as for the judging I'm not knowledgeable enough to give my opinion on that.

It is what you make of it, I kicked back with some beers and had a good time and enjoyed the show, hope to see more events like this in the future.

karsteter’s entire style revolves around doing similar 270 on pretzel variations filmed on iphone then posting on instagram to his hungry 12 year old fan base

This

he’s only in it for the social media exposure. He was on his phone the whole time during finals until it was his turn. He’s also a standoffish

that’s a little bit of a reach, i guarantee if you were good enough you’d want to compete yourself.

Ofc I would wanna compete, but I wouldn’t of been on my phone the whole time. And I wouldn’t ski for Instagram and tik cock clips

I disagree. The judging imo was pretty skewed toward the “Pros” I think Jackson was way underscored on his 2 p 8 and 2 con 9. Jackson’s 2 con 9 scored just as well as Tucker’s 2p 2 on the wall where he fell off early.

2 pretz 8 was on the down flat which was like 3 feet off the ground lmao...2 continuing 9 has no change in direction. Literally just pencil spinning a 1260 and touching a rail in between.

weren't Jkars tricks in finals all done before in practice/qualifiers too, feel like the judges wanted to see some variety
